On The moon
I'm thinking of sending my dnd 3.5 campaign to the moon, like a final fantasy game... but i have no idea where to start.
Any suggestions on how to play on the moon in a fantasy setting?
I've already decided that they can breath, eat, and talk normally, plus regular gravity (IT'S MAGIC!!!), i just dont know how to populate the world of the moon, or what kind of things an adventuring group can run into.

Re: On The moon
Unless the spell/item/location used to access the moon is readily available (or was at some point), then populating the moon isn't much of a problem, as there haven't been enough visitors to create any settlements. The lack of building materials means that any settlements that do spring up will be either in caves or be composed of items the travellers could bring with them.
As far as enemies go, abberations would be the most obvious choice, due to their alien anatomy and mindset. Or possibly constructs, depending on if any powerful creatures used a facility on the moon at some point.Amazing Abjuration Avatar made by Serpentine.

Re: On The moon
When (at Lv 18) I had the PCs go to the moon they found it inhabited with a mix of creatures.
There were gnome-sized creatures made of living quartz.
Weird dwarf-gnomes who were masters of artifice.
Trolls.
And size increased bulette, griffons, and rocs (which ate the bulette).
Except for some small races everything on the moon was extra big, even the trees (huge, towering, fruit bearing oak trees). I think there was also a huge dire wolf.
They went to another moon as well (there were 4 prime material worlds they could travel between via magic) and it was covered in archipelagos (which thankfully the PCs didn't point out this was strange as all 4 worlds were "geographically extremely similar"). They didn't see as much of this one but it had some weird insect-dragons and deep sea dwelling crab-dragons.
The other two moons (they never reached them)... I forget what they had, one was a desert and the other was partially airless or some such.Peanut Half-Dragon Necromancer by Kurien.

sounds really neat, but my characters are around lvl 6, so that might be too much for them

Re: On The moon
Ok. The important thing is it feel different than the world below. I gave mine the theme (giants!) to do this but there are other ways. When they had finished getting the pieces of the map from the moons and finally gone to the real place they intended to go (a giant space station built by the most powerful mage in history) they were going to find it inhabited by creatures from the Sword and Sorcery Creature Collection books.

Re: On The moon
If they're used to islands you could make the moon an extreme terrain type like desert or tundra. Or possibly something more eldritch. I don't really know the fluff for the setting so I don't know how out there some of these suggestions will be but:
- The moon is actually a giant plant or fungi. Various monstrous insects dwell on its surface.
- The moon once housed a race of necromancers that wiped themselves out in a world war and left the world inhabited only with the dead. Maybe have the negative energy trait.
- The moon is covered in ice, and inhabited with artic orcs and silver dragons.
Something to make it different than the world is what I'd suggest. How long will they be on the moon for, though, and will they be able to come back? The longer the game will focus on the moon the less extreme you're likely to want it to be.Peanut Half-Dragon Necromancer by Kurien.

Re: On The moon
Few better places than a Moon to hide a phylactery.
Outsiders with greater teleportation/planeshift abilities would make sense.
Also Vorpal Tribble's Outter Golem You'd need to scale it way back, but things like it would make sense on a thing with a (supposedly weak moon like atmosphere.)Come with me, time out of mind...

Re: On The moon
If you want to base a campaign on a moon, you should decide if travel from the moon (or to the moon) is possible. Is there breathable air? Is there water? What about gravity? You might want to see other games that dealt with this such as Spelljammer for 2nd Edtion D&D (there is a fan-based website which brings it up to 3rd edition) or Space 1889.
DebbyP.E.A.C.H. Please Evaluate And Critique Honestly. Being nicer and kinder doesn't hurt either. Note I generally only critique 3.5 and Pathfinder material.
Please, please, please when using non-core material, cite to the books. There are too many books to wade through to find the one with the feat, special ability or spell you use.

Re: On The moon
Here's the Spelljammer site. It's got a lot of cool monsters that you could use. I highly recommend looking at the http://www.spelljammer.org. You can find a lot of stuff on this page too: http://www.spelljammer.org/sj3e. Cool monsters some new and some conversions.

Re: On The moon
There's a campaign setting called Dragon Mech, where the surface of the moon fell to earth causing planetwide destruction, forcing races to go deep underground then re-emerge in giant mechs
the moon actually is the home of lunar creatures and lunar gods
the lunar creatures are abberations
might be interesting for youI've started streaming again.
78% of DM's started their first campaign in a tavern. If you're one of the 22% that didn't, copy and paste this into your signature.
I started my first campaign outside of an abandoned mine, just as soon as a meteor storm from the moon hits.
