[D&D 3.5] Making a Half-Vampire Undead Hunter

As you may note with the above image, I'm semi-interested in making something a mite like the legendary vampire hunter, though perhaps more generalized, as your standard campaign setting is probably not set 10,000 years after the fall of man to vampires and Favored Enemy typically covers more than just vampires, unlike ye olde 1st Ed Rangers, the poor sods.

My first thoughts are on the Half-Vampire template from Libris Mortis, which is kinda lackluster for what it gives. I mean, +2 Str, Dex and Cha, free slam attack and choose one of minion summoning, blood sucking or charm gaze for LA +2? That's kinda weak sauce, y'know? Plus, you'd think it'd give some defenses against vampires, since you're already half one, wouldn't you be more resistant to them, sharing strengths and all that.

As for character build, I was looking at including some Ranger in there, multiclassed either with Paladin with Devoted Tracker and Sacred Vengeance or Rogue/Skullclan Hunter from MH for defenses and being able to sneak attack those undead bastards with impunity, no weapon crystals or Grave Strike shenanigans. There may be other paths to doing this well, such as Hunter of the Dead (CW), but that's my general thoughts.

Going the Ranger path also leads me to picking up Unquenchable Flame of Life, since it becomes much better if you have Favored Enemy(Undead). I also thought about Vampire Hunter but it's fairly fluffy as feats go. We can do better than that, I think.

So, what thoughts does the Playground have on making something like this? Mystic Ranger/Knight of the Raven? Something else entirely? Don't bother, it's futile, you should make an Unarmed Swordsage ? Let me know!
