Go as a fully statted out and highly optimised character sheet. Ask for 2d4 bits of candy when the option presents itself.

One poster here has an avatar of a Team Fortress 2 spy disguised as Roland St. Jude (basically a guy in a suit with a Roland paper mask).

Dress up in a suit and wear a paper mask with Gary's face on it. Bonus points if you have a Dead Ringer pocket watch. It's double geeky as it references two popular games.

The classic best known Pun-Pun build would be a kobold wizard shapeshifter with a viper familiar. So, dress up as a kobold somehow (maybe justify your size as having cast Enlarge Person on yourself), add wizard paraphernalia like a pointy hat and staff, and carry a small fake snake. Also look up Master of Many Forms in Complete Adventurer to see if there's anything in the first 3 levels that you could add something to represent.

Paint face black, buy white wig, carry two scimitars, wear a cloak, and get pointy ears.

I doubt anyone will think it racist given the wig and ears.

    Gelatinous Cube.

Get a square-ish box, cut eyeholes, paint it white or something (since clear generally isn't an option), boom, you're done. Then bring it out next time you're DMing as a miniature for the BBEG.

Actually, making it from a transparent material, say plastic wrapping material over a frame would mean you could then disguise yourself as a corpse eaten by the cube.

If you spend any time serving candy at your house to trick-or-treaters: dress as a generic wizard, but have various dice dangling from your staff. Around your wizard's hat have a DM's screen, and have a few sourcebooks somehow attached to your belt.

When the children approach, tell them they have entered the dungeon crawl. They must roll 1d20--hand each a dice--to determine what loot they find.

If they roll a 1, they get no candy. Make sure you quickly flee inside to avoid assaults.

If they roll a 20, they get double candy. Other results vary by number. Very good costumes give a circumstance bonus of +1 to their roll.

Edit: or have this stuff and go to a party as the DM houseowner during Halloween

A d20 would be easier to build though, triangles instead of pentagons.

If you can get cheap dice do it, then you can give them the dice or at least afford to lose them if kids take them and run.

Yes, but I'm a Killer Bunnies fan, and in Killer Bunnies d12s get ALL the love. I think of d20s as more iconic to D&D.

    this is exactly right
d20s are basically the main thing that 'true' fantasy rpg game mechanics are based off of. other genres often use different sided dice as their main die (like star wars d6 or sure killer bunnies)

I know it's a bit late to order something online, but you could always be "that weird guy down the street" and buy a few Pounds-O-Dice from Chessex then have the kid roll for how many he gets. That would make for an expensive Halloween, though - $18 a pop at the cheapest.

Still have to come up with a costume, though.
