    Also, that acoustic doesn't feel very dire to me. I'd imagine a "flaming dire guitar" to be some electric spikey guitar that satan shreds on when he's feeling particularly awesome.

    Truth, but I never understood the concept of "dire flail". I mean I'm a professional fire performer and we use things like "dire flails" all the time, it's just they are called double meteor hammers and are not as dumbed down.

    Starting from that link, I ended up with a video of an actual spiked chain!
    Nothing like the PHB picture, but it's a chain, has a spike, and I wouldn't want to get it into my face.
