Build Help Explorer Extraordinaire!

I've got this idea in my head that I want to play an explorer. Someone who's basically devoted their life to tracking down a legendary hero's exploits.

The basic idea is that of an overconfident person that is extremely good at climbing things. Everest should be a walk in the park.

For flavor reasons, I want him to wield two picks(not a powerful option I know). I'd also like to have survival, k-nature, geography and dungeoneering at least. He should be able to handle any sort of physical challenge imposed by nature. Also, if possible it would be cool to have some thieving skills.

For first level, I feel like Factotum w/Able Learner is in order...but beyond that I have no idea where to take him or how to best represent a dual wielding pick fighter that can actually hold his own in combat and maintain his other abilities.

Any ideas?
