Default [AD&D] Forgotten Realms Campaign Set ("Grey Box")'s maps

    Hello all,

I recently acquired a copy of the AD&D Forgotten Realms Campaign Set. All the contents are in order, except for the maps:

The box came with one overview map of eastern Faerūn, two (!) detail maps of the Dalelands, and one detail map of the Sword Coast:

Did my "Grey Box" come with the appropriate maps? If not, what should be the correct maps?

Those look right to me. My original has those as well. It did come with a celophane hex grid overlay in addition to the maps.

I think that is the second printing of the grey box.

Sounds like it came with the right stuff. I don't think the second printing had the clear plastic hex map though. I think you just measured.

The detail maps used to link together to form one big ass map of Faeurn. Coarse you had to buy all the realms books to get it, and the odds of that ever happening then was pretty low. Now a days. Nearly impossible.

Just to be clear: the box also came with DM's Sourcebook of the Realms; Cyclopedia of the Realms; and two plastic hex grid overlays.

Anyway, are you sure these maps are the right ones? It seems a bit strange to me my set came with two (!) maps of the Dalelands and no map of western Faerūn. The books claim that should not be the case:

(...) The other two maps are detailed blow-ups of sections of the former maps, covering that region from the Sword Coast to The Dragon Reach in great detail, for use in adventuring through the Realms.
Or is this just some general misprint?

Hmmn. According to TSR Info there should be four full colour maps, but as you seem to have surmised not likely two of the Dale Lands. I do not have a physical copy of this set, but my pdf version of the maps seems to encompass Calimsham and rest of the world on the large scale map. I do have a physical copy of the second edition version, which is comprised of:

2 Maps at 1" = 90 Miles: Eastern and Western Realms and when combined encompassing Calimsham to Icewind Dale and Sossal to Eastern Shaar.
2 Maps at 1" = 30 Miles: When combined showing the Sword Coast, Daggerford to Beregost, and Anauroch to the Pirate Isles.

My pdf version is slightly different in that its two maps at 1" = 30 Miles show the Dale Lands in the first and east of the Dale Lands as far as Helena Gap and the Lake of Tears in the second, but yes you should have the two 1" = 90 Miles maps.

It is a joyful thing indeed to hold intimate converse with a man after one’s own heart, chatting without reserve about things of interest or the fleeting topics of the world; but such, alas, are few and far between.

Hmm. I'm trying to recall what maps came with my copy and having a hard time doing so.

I think mine had more than four maps, though. I want to say it included the maps in this picture (sorry for the poor positioning - it was the best I could find), as well as this one.
which was an oddly different color from the rest, and may not have been supposed to be included.

I know that my copy did not include the hex overlay (though it was mentioned as supposed to in one of the books).

As I recall, there were two overview maps (one east, one west), and two detail maps (though what of, I do not recall).

Is it this one? If so, it looks like you're missing the western map and have two Dalelands maps instead.

If it was this copy it should have included:

A Grand Tour of the Realms (128 pgs.)
    Running the Reamls (64 pgs.)
    Shadowdale (96 pgs.)
    8 Monstrous Compendium sheets
6 cards showing various signs, glyphs, runes, etc.
    2 hex grid overlays
4 maps (1 each of the eastern and western Realms, a detail Sword Coast and a detail Dalelands)

    oops. Ya on second look.

You should have a big map that shows just about all of the western contenent, it's two maps that go together. That should cover the Sword Coast all the way east to the great wall and stuff. North to south it goes from the spine of the world, and Vassa to the Chult in the South, and the Shinning South and all that junk.

The other two maps, The one your calling the detail map of the Dales is one of coarse. The other is a detailed map of the Sword Coast.

    No; rather this one.

Anway: seems I have my answer: I have two Dalelands maps, and the western Faerūn map is missing. Thank you all for your time. :)
