WBL for a monster with class levels?
How does one go about something like this? If a vrock for instance gained 2 levels in ranger, how much wealth would it get for equipment?
Feel free to PM me if you want something PEACHed. I may not be one of the greats, but I'll do it if you ask.

Re: WBL for a monster with class levels?
Wouldn't it be standard treasure for a CR 11 creature?

Re: WBL for a monster with class levels?
Yeah, it's either that or treating them as an ECL 20 NPC. The specific Vrock in question has 10 Racial Hit Dice, a Level Adjustment of +8, and 2 levels of Ranger, making it an ECL 20 NPC.
I believe the only guideline for creatures with no LA that gain class levels is the CR treasure metric.

Re: WBL for a monster with class levels?
It's here, more or less: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/improvingM...ingClassLevels
Generally you figure out the CR increase based on whether the class levels are associated or non-associated. Increase the existing CR by that amount; don't use LA. Then equip him with the standard treasure for that CR. If you want to make the monster more interesting you can swap the standard array - 11,11,11,10,10,10 before racial adjustments - that he came with for the non-elite array: 13,12,11,10,9,8.
There's another alternative for elite monsters, i.e. those on par with the PCs such as all the villains with a name in OotS. Figure out their ECL and matching wealth via CR = LA + HD + class levels instead of the above method. Those you give NPC wealth from page 127 and the elite array for ability scores. That is: 15,14,13,12,10,8 replaces 11,11,11,10,10,10 before racial adjustments.
The elite array is pretty close to average rolled stats for 4d6 best 3. If you gave your players better stats, you should probably bump up the monsters too. For example 5d6 best 3 would probably get a +1 to all stats compared to normal, and maybe a +2 to the high stat instead.Last edited by ericgrau; 2010-12-01 at 12:50 AM.
