Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
Erm...you're on GitP, and you didn't even consider Belkar's Mark of Justice? As in, "commit any crime within 100 ft. of any part of civilization (or Roy), you get permanently nauseated"?
Can't figure anything better than that one. Or maybe I'm not thinking that much. It's basically a Bestow Curse with trigger, so it's based on what you can use out of Bestow Curse.Retooler of D&D 3.5 (and 5e/Next) content. See here for more.

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
There's a bunch. I like mine as an enforcement to keep them from committing a similar crime and it adds backstory.
For example:
Must be in an enclosed area with a closed portal (ie divider of some sort) Before relieving oneself.
Cannot allow others to view your genitalia (best not get captured and "Stripped" of your gear...)
Not allowed to maintain eye contact or gaze at intelligent beings under 4 feet in height for longer than 6 seconds at a time.
You must lose a corresponding amount of coin for each item that comes into your possession. (Throw this on a rogue and he can no longer loot bodies and pick pocket anything other than coin).
You must bring to justice all the members of your old gang without harming them.
The laws of physics must remain intact during daylight hours. (great on wizards/clerics)
Must not interfere with lumberjacks and hunters (poachers). Use this on druids.
Mustn't play music, sing or dance within 100 feet of a tavern. (Use on bards)
Not allowed to hold alcholic beverages in their hands. (Dwarves. This will just make him multiclass to monk though and use his feet.)

A lot of those seem less 'interesting back story' and more 'screw them over for using their class features.'

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
Problem with MoJ is they can choose to just eat the bestow curse, and try to remove it later. (Just find a lvl 9 cleric. Or buy a scroll and UMD/find a lvl 1 Cleric/Wizard)

I'm sure people know this old campfire game... you're not allowed to use the words "yes" or "no"!

You are forbidden to turn left
Now in order to go left they have to do a little spin to the right. Not effective in a game sense, but annoys the hell out of stoic, serious characters.Piratebold-Bard by Elder Tsofu | Backer #121 of the Giantitp Kickstarter | My homebrew

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
Heh, this reminds me of the "Tower of Heaven" platform game - it's all about annoying and illogical rules.
Be very careful with such an ability - it's easy to overdo it and annoy other PCs. The best policy would be to restrain yourself from using it on other PCs, unless it's the vote of the majority to keep a single PC in line.In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
There is also the possibility of making the punishing effects reversible. This guy here is polymorphed into a plush bunny, every time he says a bad word (there are probably more trigger conditions). To change back he has to perform a good deed (sometimes guiding an elderly women across the street might be enough).
In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
A friend of mine playing a Paladin was giving out Oranges to the rest of the party (this guy was and is a bit off) and the rest of the party was basically like "O_o umm ok" well anyone that didn't take an orange was deemed "evil" due to the thought that oranges were the gift of the gods and that anyone not wanting one ~must~ be evil. One character didn't take one so he ended up being subjected to a MoJ and every time he declined an orange something bad would happen later on in battle. He worded it such as...
If he doesn't except a gift from the god such as oranges then during his time of need (battle) he will see (and only him) a major image of an Orange elemental >.<;;;;
When the swordsage or war blade stopped attacking a water elemental because of the bigger threat (giant orange with teeth.. or pac man on crack) and started attacking a wall. When struck it would *sink* into the wall and come out the next time the player targeted an enemy. Very funny but annoying since we kinda needed him in battle to not go off and attack empty air >.>

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
Now the real fun would come by using this with variant paladins...
For example: You must not fail to dance in the moonlight on the party wizard, as cast by a paladin of freedom...Part of YugiohITPAvatar by Smuchmuch

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
After reading the spell again...
Its a necromancy spell...
So all the people saying that necromancy = evil can't be right since using this spell would make a paladin fall.. plus he/she couldn't cast it to begin with due to alignment restrictions... Hmmm

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
Along with my old DM (long time 3.X gamer) and a few threads I saw on here before there are people who think necromancy = evil...
Many of the people I used to game with thought that way too, the party necromancer got attacked even though he was LG.

Re: Paladin with "Mark of Justice", best ones ever?
The DM never said anything about house rules to begin with soo yeah going into the game the necromancer (wizard specialist type) could have avoided the whole thing if the DM would have brought it up.
Anyways...
I want to make a necromancer paladin
Ehem...
MoJ: Follow my orders (The orders of LG) and don't lawyer the words or you start singing "I feel pretty o so pretty" (to evil minions).
This to be used to show them how helping people can make them feel good... MWUAHAHA
Now to get this placed on a Pit Fiend and have fun walking old ladies across a street! Wait would this work on a pit fiend... hmmm
