Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
Finally finished reediting my character. I had to keep going back, because I felt like his mix was off and that he was either way overpowered sounding, or way underpowered sounding. Maybe I got the right mix this time.
Any additional suggestions?
I'm considering editing out the special operations deal, because I figure that the training I am thinking of is identical to the training of the police in Metro. Basically the point was to have him used to pressure and dealing with dangerous situations, because, if he wasn't able to, it would be difficult to make him a cop due to his breakdowns under pressure that would ensue. Also, the fighting capability which he desperately needs to defend himself from the supers without dying (because we know that the supers hate the humans and the humans hate the supers) was a must, so I figured this might be a way to procure a fighting level to be able to complete his missions.
It would help abit to know what the training of cops in Metro is to gauge whether my idea of special forces training and the training of the cops in Metro is the same (I am under that impression, currently).Last edited by The Alexandrian; 2010-12-15 at 11:22 PM.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
He already knows a lot, so you could get rid of the special ops bit and type that he's new to Metropolis and quickly learning any ropes that the cops there would teach him about. Anyways, the Personality and Backstory bits are quite helpful. He makes a lot more sense. I'll have to add those to my character, as well.
Also, the telecommunications expert sounds fairly cool. *wonders where all of the other super villains are*You're either an Outcast, or you're in denial.

Jackie's not really an expert. Just kind of a talkative gal who fixes people's electronics and can tap into telecommunications.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
Actually, that reminds me of the PK troopers from Mirror's Edge. Actually, this training is probably more intense than the spec. ops training I had in mind so Metro cop specialized training it is.
Yeah, that is a good suggestion, especially since he is modeled after what I'm doing with my degree now. Mechanical engineering then law school. Eight years then off to the Jag corps with military training for two years during these eight years...
Special Operations training can not be done in that time limit.
Anway, thanks for the feedback guys. I think this character might be ready to roll, unless there are any other suggestions.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
SpoilerFull Name: Sergeant Markus Armstrong
Age: 37
Photo: N/A
Powers: Bone Manipulation, Healing Factor
Bone Manipulation:
Can alter skeletal form to protrude bone spikes from skin. He can create knuckle spikes, spears, bolts and can even shoot the spikes at high velocity from his body. He can also cause the spikes to grow out of his torso in a defensive porcupine sort of way. His bones are also slightly denser and harder than normal human bone.
Healing Factor:
As bones grow through is skin and leave holes they heal themselves up. He also seems to be slightly more resistant to falls and blunt force trauma. This is odd because he is still susceptible to everything else and wounds caused by things other than his bones seem to take just below average healing time.
Reason in City: Turned self in to the MP when he realized what he was.
Announced Items: Case of cigars, 2 military uniforms, 1 pair of civilian clothes.
Self Description and other Data: Grizzled old military veteran. Already has a few gray hairs poking in at the young age of 37. About six foot three, broad and muscular with black hair. Usually wearing a torn up old military uniform and smoking a cigar, bad habit but it helps him deal with stuff.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
McBish, have you a character sheet? I noticed you asking about a character with the power to not die, before. Looks as if you went ahead with it. I wouldn't make a large deal about it, but my character has a power that's quite similar. He can be killed, but it'd take a bit more doing than for most people, so mayhaps a guy who can't be killed is different enough? No large deal, to myself.
Anyways, regarding my character, no one commented on my idea of adding that, due to his unchanging nature, his mind always resets to when he first gained his powers, so he'd have to keep notes on any new things that he's learned, since then. I figure that it could be a cool idea for some plots, since he forgetting some or all of his later knowledge could be helpful, for some. But then, if I'm just trying to give my guy more downsides that aren't required, let me know. You're either an Outcast, or you're in denial.

Retcon'd Fairy man's fairy wings out of existence.
It's just too... silly.
Even if they've removed by a flamethrower to the back, knowing that he had them at all just ruins my ability to take him seriously. >.<Last edited by Ashen Lilies; 2010-12-16 at 08:34 AM.

Kay, heres my character draft.
Full Name: Christopher Jackson
Age: 25
Photo:
Powers: Camouflage field (Jackson can create a chameleon-like effect with his body and objects he's consciously holding or wearing), Adhesive grip (Jackson can use his hands and feet to climb sheer surfaces. This also seems to give him an unnaturally powerful grip)
Reason in City: Prisoner
Announced Items: Nothing of note
Self Description and other Data: Ugly bastard. Jackson was a petty criminal before his capture. One to watch.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
Kind of funny considering his powers officially run on something on the other side of the speed of light (the speed force)
It only works because he's faster than paradoxes as well
But my first Nexus character is a pixie*...
Then again, he is also sporting a coat of many colours
*common misconception that fairies had wings in medieval folklore, they didn't. Pixies did.
This bone manipulation has been passed down the Armstrong family for generations!
It's good, sounds a bit grumpy though. I think I will try to fix that once this cold lets me focus on making a character sheetTreasured Quotes

On further reading, it turns out that Chris is more of a jerk than Damien. Pheww.
Any comments on the character? I wasn't sure whether it might be cooler to have the bottom bit happen in game or not

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
I think the character's pretty cool. I think the backstory should happen off-screen, though.
Also, I think I might run into problems playing Lech. Specifically, he's supposed to counter the supers' powers using his knowledge of science. And I suck at science. >.>My FFRP characters. Avatar by Ashen Lilies. Sigatars by Ashen Lilies, Gullara and Purple Eagle.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
Looks like a lot of fun. I was actually going to ask in here about how to go about setting up my character as supervillain, when it comes to getting himself a lair and some equipment and mayhaps networks himself some henchmen. I could just breeze by all of that stuff and assume that he quickly obtains a bunch of stuff, so that he can get to the supervillaining, but if anyone would enjoy roleplaying out any part of that, Yay!
Roleplaying out your mugging and murder scene sounds fun. I figure you mean that Chris happened to be brutally mugging someone, a cop showed up, and he shot the guy, but it could also mean that the cop was brutally mugging him. Sounds like the first one, in which case, I could make up some random NPC to get mugged, or I could use Dr. Farcy, who'd just be able to heal back up, anyway. If my guy ends up hiring your guy for some villainous duties, it could be funny for them to have met in such a way. You're either an Outcast, or you're in denial.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
Yeah - I meant Chris was mugging some guy for his wallet, beat him half to death, and then shot the policeman trying to stop him.
I'm thinking I might just start with him on the run - its what I wanted to play after all.
I should add I'm not sure that a classical super villain with a lair and minions fits so well - I got the impression this was more like the Vertigo or Maxx lines, where the closest you get to that is a crimelord.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
Understood. I just figured that a character with a classical supervillain bent would be useful for plots beyond just, "Cops bad." For a villain's lair, I was just thinking that he'd be getting out of that apartment building and get something where screaming experiments won't wake people up. He'd need to get in touch with one of the more technologically-talented to make it a proper villain's lair. I plan on the guy picking up some homeless people (huh. Or mayhaps some mutant cats that no one would notice missing) to experiment on, at first. And for minions, well, an Igor would be cool, for him. He'd mostly just need to hire some muscle for other stuff, probably. That stuff being typed, I could always just stick to what appears to be the main plot, anyway, if it is a large deal.
Towards Lech, yep, I am finding that my lack of training as a brain surgeon means that I won't be able to make my character sound as smart as he is. oh well. We'll just roll with it.You're either an Outcast, or you're in denial.

Re: [Metro] Metropolis OOC
Well, while I'm thinking about what to do with the doctor, here is the no friction dude that also got some positive feedback. I'll probably bring him in at some dramatic point.
Full Name: Nicholas August Boyle, Alias: Slick
Age: 14
Photo: Nope.
Powers: No friction. He has to wear double layers and be very aware of his center of gravity, since anything he touches loses its friction for some unspecified amount of time (it wears off at the speed of plot, I figure). He mostly uses it to slide around and be difficult to catch, but he can also use it to make blows a lot more glancing, or as an attack to make people fall down. Since he's a dimwit, there are plenty of applications for this that he hasn't thought of, and I'm wanting his powers to develop into including lots of other things. He just needs to actually practice and such.
Reason in City: Being a horrible mutant. He tried to hide his powers but failed horribly on the second day and was turned in my his coach.
Announced Items: Large backpack filled with changes of clothes, a GameBoy and, tragically, only a couple of games, photos of family and friends, that the evil government snickered while taking him away from, a wallet filled with as much cash as his parents could spare him. Unannounced Items: A longknife and a grappling hook and rope that he scrounged up after being tossed inside.
Self Description and other Data: Tallish, gangly, but a decent amount of athleticism rounds that out a bit, brown eyes that lack much fire, short and ruffly brown hair, some kind of black body sheath under your average t-shirt and jeans, two pairs of gloves, a black bandana that he thinks makes him look pretty cool.
Address #: I don't know yet.
Personality: Fairly dim, but is idiotically idealistic and loves the idea of using his powers to become a comic book hero. He'd prefer hanging out with the younger crowd. While around older types, he'd try to keep up an insolent and indolent demeanor, but he'd be fairly easy to cow.
Backstory: Born to a fairly average as well as middle class family, he hadn't had much of a chance to make this an interesting backstory. What he considers to be his tragic backstory, though, is that he was really into football, was on a team at his high school, but when he developed his power, he found that friction is quite useful for sports (as well as other, less important stuff). Quite mortified, he tried a few excuses for why he seemed to have lost his interest in football, but his coach easily figured out that he was some kind of messed up mutant, and the guy alerted the government to his presence. Parting with his family was tearful, but now this guy is plenty excited about being off on his own.
Miscellaneous: For powers to be developed ---> Super friction, giving him the ability to slow himself down more easily, as well as to just stick people or things in place. Later, the ability to mess with other things from physics class. Decreasing something's mass, to pretend like he has super strength. Stuff like that. You're either an Outcast, or you're in denial.
Strength and stupidity in numbers.
