Feral Template

Quick question about the Feral Template in Savage Species.

Do you have to take levels in Feral or do you just take the template and then every time you level up you get the extra abilities as well as whatever you get from your class?

The way I read it is that you only take it once, but it seems somewhat overpowered compared to races with +1 level adjustment.

It is considered one of the most overpowered +1 LA templates, and yes you only take it once and gain abilities as you level. It's important to note, however, that gaining the special attacks requires you to have monster Hit Dice. So your standard adventurer won't qualify for them.

being said, having a Feral Troll Half-Red Dragon as a cohort makes it a VERY devistating template.
