open class D&D
So my buddies and I are experimenting with new systems all the time, and we found that what we like the most are classless open design character systems like world of darkness, savage worlds, gurps and others. but we REALLY like D&D, I was wondering if D&D had ever been made classless? as in, has anyone ever broken down the classes into their individual powers and made the game build able from the ground up, or am I going to have to be the first?

Generic Classes might be a good baseline if you're going to go completely classless.

Re: open class D&D
The Generic Classes were going to be my suggestion. I actually did make a a system like the one you are actually talking about once... that was... 9 years ago. I have unfortunately, long since lost all of my work in that endeavor.
Internet currently unreliable, please have patience.

Re: open class D&D
Second that, but it will need LOTS of work to turn them into completely classless from generic classes, and many, many abilities will need to be carved to fit into classless system.
Also-you gotta figure how to deal with saves and hit die, as they are both critical in DnD.
Hit Die are especially troublesome because many times 2d4 is worth more then a d12.Last edited by boomwolf; 2011-01-06 at 04:41 AM.

Re: open class D&D
Here is an attempt to do that with Pathfinder..
Thanks for reminding me of it, I still need to check this out as it appears much further along than when I last checked.
