How similar is OSRIC to AD&D?
So a member of my D&D group wanted to run a old-school sort of RPG, and said this free game called OSRIC claimed to be just like it. So veterans of ye olde D&D, is it true? Is this pretty much open-source AD&D?

More or less. Using the OGL, the makers of OSRIC recreated 1st edition's rules. I have been told, by those who know better than I, that it is very close, but don't know, off the top of my head, the points of difference.
If you're looking for an old-school sort of RPG, I'll once against pimp for Castles and Crusades. It's got a good, old-school feel, directly compatible with earlier edition materials, and a lot of fun.The Cranky Gamer
