Unsure where to advance to?

Hey guys, just needing some friendly old advice. I've come to a loggerheads with what to do next with my pathfinder party. They have only just finished a adventure to introduce them to the BBEG of the campaign, and have returned to Sandpoint, to help out the town's short staffed constabulary.

The problem is one of the party members is an escaped convict, heck the paladin in the party was the one who locked him up. He only escaped by setting fire to the watch house and burning his own face to re-infiltrate the party as a new adventurer, to exact his revenge on Sandpoint, it's police and mayor, and finally the party. Helping him has been a new murderer spawned by him, who he has been manipulating. So far this player has killed the town Sergeant, Priest and Mayor. All that's left are the party and sherif, though the party have caught the impostor "Mortis", the characters name.

So playground, what direction do you think this story needs to be taken?

Obviously this player needs to die for his crimes in a public hanging. During the hanging, either some natural disaster happens, or the prisoner's buddies storm in to break him out. Player is faced with a decision on what to do and where to go.
