    Default [316] 316bc?

There's a game from a couple of years ago called 3:16 Carnage Amongst the Stars, where the PCs are all expendable space marines thrown into hopeless battles by an uncaring military. There was supposed to be a supplement called 316AD Carnage Amongst the Tribes, where the PCs were late Roman legionaries attempting to hold the Empire together, but it seems to have disappeared.

So here's a spin on the latter, 316BC where a bunch of Hellenistic mercenaries serving one (or more) of the Successors, trying to restore Alexander the Great's empire. The year 316BC puts us in the middle of the Second War of the Diadochi.

Seven years ago Megas Alexandros died, leaving no clear successor, and his empire is falling apart. His former generals and bodyguards, indeed anyone who can gather enough men together are all making their bids for power. Either to reclaim the empire for themselves, or simply grab as big a piece of it as they are able. Alliances shift and change with the wind, always the many gathering to oppose any one man who gains too much power. In this cauldron of constant warfare, mercenaries change sides with regularity, often passing from the army of the vanquished to that of the victor in the aftermath of a battle.

In this year there are two main fronts where the action is happening. In Greece, Polyperchon faces the usurper Cassander, son of the regent who had left him in charge. In Asia Antigonous seeks to regain control of the eastern part of Alexander's empire from Eumenes, who has thrown his lot in with Polyperchon.

On who's side will the PCs fight? Will they remain loyal to their commander, or find a better offer with his rivals?

In 3:16, the PCs are fighting for Earth but in the end they come to hate their home. In 316 AD, the PCs are fighting for the ideal of Rome and in the end they hate it. In 316 BC, what would the PCs hate in the end? Their king? Hellas as a whole?

They could be fighting to restore the glorious and enlightened empire of Megas Alexandros. In the end they could come to hate the grasping warlord whom they serve, when they realise he's only interested in carving out his own fief.
