Default Star wars saga edition droid question

Is there any way to get a bonus to HP similar to having a high con mod with a medium sized droid? I am using saga edition was thinking of playing a droid but I value toughness so I was hoping there was a way with droids to get bonus HP.

No. However, you're a freaking droid. You can mount Shield Generators much more easily than anyone else, use armor that's ridiculous compared to other characters', and are more capable in general (unless you're comparing it to a UtF-abuse Jedi). If you really need an extra 1 or 2 HP per level, grab Toughness.

Toughness is a help though I wish there was more. I guess effective con of 12 is better than nothing. Thanks you. Let me know if anybody else thinks of anything, perhaps there is something not well known (less likely than in D&D but still).

Also are there any "items" not in the core rulebook that are obtainable that are similar to the droid items from KOTOR such as ability boosters?

I don't have access to my books at the moment so forgive me if I misquote something. In the Starships of the Galaxy handbook, (I think that's the right name,) there is a feat called Tech Specialist that lets you modify things(for a price) like weapons, armor, starships, and droids. If I remember correctly, you can modify a droid to gain a +2 enhancement bonus to one ability score. In the Scum and villainy handbook there is in Improved Tech Specialist feat that will allow you to further improve these enhancements.

The cool thing about playing a droid is that you can reprogram what feats you know as long as you have the mechanics skill and enough time. So, you can swap out a feat for Tech Specialist, pay the price to modify yourself, and then swap back to your old feat. Even without the feat you will get to keep your modifications. (by RAW anyway)

As far as finding ways to Improve your hit-points I can't think of anything at the moment. But I hope this helps.

It's got pretty strict requirements, though. Unless you're an astromech or other dedicated techie, you'll have problems qualifying for it.

Superior tech requires int 17 and level 9, as well as the tech specialist feat. It's also worth noting that the tech upgrades can only add to STR/DEX/INT of droids.

Thanks, now I will just have to look up the tech specialist feat. Is that in the core book if not I don't have it.

    Yes.

Sadly, Starships of the Galaxy is one of the most sought after sourcebooks of the SAGA edition. Used copies currently cost around 100 dollars at Amazon.

Lucky me bought it for around 24 euros when it was new.

It was also published (in basically the same form as the SotG version) in a free online supplement... but since WotC let the license lapse and they took down that part of the website, you can't actually get that except from archives.

Thus, while I normally don't promote copying text from the books verbatim (or similar such activity regarding copyrighted material), I don't think anyone would object if I posted this...

You can make custom modifications to armor, weapons, vehicles, droids, and devices.

Prerequisite: Trained in the Mechanics skill.

Benefit: You can modify a device, suit of armor, weapon, droid, or vehicle so that it gains a special trait. Specific traits are given on the table below. You may perform only one modification at a time. Unless noted otherwise, you cannot grant more than one benefit to a single device, suit of armor, weapon, droid, or vehicle, and you cannot apply the same benefit more than once.

Before beginning the modification, you must pay one-tenth the cost of the device, suit of armor, weapon, droid, or vehicle you wish to modify or 1,000 credits, whichever is more. Completing the modification requires 1 day per 1,000 credits of the modification's cost. At the end of thist time, make a DC 20 Mechanics check; you can't take 10 or take 10 on this check. If the check succeeds, the modification is completed successfully, and thhe object gains the desired trait. If the check fails, you lose all credits spent making the modification, and the object doesn't gain the desired trait. However, you may start over if you wish.

Other characters trained in the Mechanics skill can assist you, reducing proportionately the time needed to complete the modification. At the end of the modification process, they can make a Mechanics check to aid your check.

The market value of a modified item is equal to the base cost of the item + double the cost of the modifications made to it (not including credits wasted on failed modification attempts).

Special: Nobles and scoundrels may take this feat as a bonus feat.

    {table]Armor Trait|Benefit
Agile Armor|The armor's maximum Dexterity bonus increases by 1.
Fortifying Armor|The armor's equipment bonus to Fortitude Defense increases by 1.
Protective Armor|The armor's armor bonus to Reflex Defense increases by 1.
    Device Trait|Benefit
Enhanced Strength|Increase the device's Strength score by 2.
Improved Durability|The device's damage reduction increases by 1, and it gains extra hit points equal to one-quarter of its maximum hit points.
Mastercraft Device|Skill checks made using the device gain a +1 equipment bonus, or the device's existing equipment bonus increases by 1.
    Droid Trait|Benefit
Enhanced Dexterity|Increase the droid's Dexterity score by 2.
Enhanced Intelligence|Increase the droid's Intelligence score by 2.
Enhanced Strength|Increase the droid's Strength score by 2.
    Vehicle Trait|Benefit
Enhanced Dexterity|Increase the vehicle's Dexterity score by 2.
Improved Speed|Increases the vehicle's speed by one-quarter of its base speed (minimum 1 square).
Improved Shields|Increases the vehicle's shield rating by 5.
    Weapon Trait|Benefit
Improved Accuracy|The weapon gains a +1 equipment bonus on attack rolls.
Improved Damage|The weapon deals +2 points of damage with a successful hit. If the weapon has a damage multiplier (for example, 6d10x2), apply the extra damage before applying the multiplier.
Selective Fire|An autofire-only ranged weapon can be set to fire single shots, or a single-shot ranged weapon can be made to have an autofire mode. (Not allowed for weapons that have a burst radius or splash radius.)[/table]

EDIT: A-ha! The Internet Archives have it! Thank you, Wayback Machine! (It's a fairly slow site, though, so I'll keep the copy of the feat I typed out up here unless the mods request I take it down...)

A "backdoor" approach to the matter is to invest in the various Second Wind-related feats and talents. Unless you are a straight scoundrel or noble, 2nd wind while give you a lot more than the 1 HP/Level Toughness does.
I am not crazy! I prefer "reality impaired".
