Re: OOTS #777 - The Discussion Thread
Finally signed up the other day to say this is an amazing comic, and one of the best I've ever found!
Also, great set up to the match... Can't wait to see them finally begin.
Perhaps that string isn't just a regular piece of string after all though?

Re: OOTS #777 - The Discussion Thread
This has such wonderful potential to backfire - what if Roy breaks the "Victory String" in their match? Someone dumb enough to benefit from that brand of encouragement is also dumb enough to doubt and handicap himself even more if it's taken away.

Re: OOTS #777 - The Discussion Thread
That Halfling Courage Rock has probably slain several gladiator champions in one throw/slingshot.

Re: OOTS #777 - The Discussion Thread
Well, from previous updates we do nknow that halflings are deadly with a throwing weapon, such as a rock. But the lucky rock would probably just work for halflings.

Re: OOTS #777 - The Discussion Thread
At first, I thought the string was a strand of Haley's hair... But no, it's a different color. Slightly. Wait! It's the snarl!
Also, JACKPOT."Okay, so I'm going to quick draw and dual wield these one-pound caltrops as improvised weapons..."
---
"Oh, hey, look! Blue Eyes Black Lotus!" "Wait what, do you sacrifice a mana to the... Does it like, summon a... What would that card even do!?" "Oh, it's got a four-energy attack. Completely unviable in actual play, so don't worry about it."

Re: OOTS #777 - The Discussion Thread
What are the chances that the lizardfolk Victory String is real, and so does the halfling Courage Rock? That would be ironic; Roy starts beating up Gannji, the "Victory String" becomes an Item of Legacy and turns the tide for the half-dragon. No amount of snarkiness will allow Roy to stomach that defeat, considering he has already died once and knows what the afterlife is like (and I bet the group just might not get to revive Roy afterwards).
Conversely, what if the "Victory String" is indeed a fluke (what I believe it is), but the "Courage Rock" isn't? The jewel that would emerge if that were true, Belkar would never stop taunting Roy because of it; and since Belkar is now learning to "play the game", he won't lose the chances of thrusting that into Roy. Considering his match might be won just because of the "Courage Rock" while the "Victory String" might just add an element of luck into the match between Roy and Gannji (I mean, what are the chances? Besides Gannji having the breath weapon advantage, the size, the strength, and just about anything Roy doesn't).
Oh, the possibilities. Pretty unorthodox cliffhanger, considering 7's the lucky number (oh, the irony!!)Retooler of D&D 3.5 (and 5e/Next) content. See here for more.

Re: OOTS #777 - The Discussion Thread
I think Roy will get pounded for a bit, then he'll swipe the string, causing Enor to doubt himself and basically implode. Roy then beats him with nonlethal damage or such, allowing him to live.
Yes. Gannj, actually. Because Gannji would have no reason to go easy on him at all, whereas Belkar knows he's Haley's father, and if he's not willing to kill Crystal because she's Haley's villain, he's definitely not going to kill Ian.

Roy will break the iron bands, and the dragon will go free. Shame on his partner for not figuring out a way to remove them.

I loved the Sparticus joke. "Sparticus?" "He's in the loo". Made my day.
