I am currently attempting to write an RPG system that will be based on 3d6. Hits will be to certain locations on the body, determined randomly after a successful attack roll. Targeted attacks are less likely to hit in general, but more likely to hit the targeted area. I am considering making the amount you are successful by on the attack roll have an effect on how likely you are to hit the area you are targeting, but I haven't factored that in yet.

I pretty much just did this in the last hour or two so I don't know how well balanced it is. I'm posting it here for your opinions and critique.

The first percentages on the tables are the chance of hitting a location if you have already rolled to hit. The second is the chance of hitting that location including the attack roll. Assume attack rolls are unmodified 3d6 against a difficulty of 11. All percentages are rounded to 2 digits after the decimal point.

Untargeted (-0 to hit, 50.00% chance of hitting)
Attack without particularly aiming at any location.

{table=head]Roll|Location|% w/o hitroll|% w/ hitroll
15-18|Head|9.26|4.63
11-15|Torso|40.74|20.37
9-10|Arms|24.07|12.06
3-8|Legs|25.93|12.97
Torso (-0 to hit, 50.00% chance of hitting)
Attack focusing on the center of the body. This is no less accurate than an untargeted attack, but it is less likely to hit extremedies.

{table=head]Roll|Location|% w/o hitroll|% w/ hitroll
9-18|Torso|74.07|37.06
8|Arms|9.73|4.87
6-7|Legs|11.57|5.79
3-5|Head|4.63|2.32
Head (-2 to hit, 25.93% chance of hitting)
Attack specifically aimed at the head. Less likely to hit anything, but overall more likely to hit the head than with an untargeted attack.

{table=head]Roll|Location|% w/o hitroll|% w/ hitroll
10-18|Head|62.50|16.21
8-9|Torso|21.30|5.52
6-7|Arms|11.57|3.00
3-5|Legs|4.63|1.20
Arms (-1 to hit, 37.50% chance of hitting)
Attack specifically aimed at the arms. Less likely to hit anything, but overall more likely to hit the arms than with an untargeted attack.

{table=head]Roll|Location|% w/o hitroll|% w/ hitroll
11-18|Arms|50.00|18.75
8-10|Torso|33.80|12.68
6-7|Legs|11.57|4.34
3-5|Head|4.63|1.74
I know that this might seem needlessly complicated, but keep in mind that all that is actually needed to roll is the first two columns of each table.
