Re: GtKaP Interview Thread 1: Trog
Gadora:
What's your favorite genre of your favorite form of media?
Oh man. Lots of favorites there. Picking favorites for me is hard. I like a lot of stuff. And a variety of stuff in each media, really. I guess music is the media I "consume" the most of. And the genre I suppose would be… dang I'm always so bad at getting these right… Hard rock? Metal? Frankly I need something with a decent drum beat. Something fairly basic but with a fair amount of complexity to it. That probably doesn't make sense. But it's the best way I can describe it.
What do you think of abstract art?
I have a BA in Art so I'm rather familiar with it. Using the term "abstract" to start to divorce the realistic subject matter from the visual interpretation of it you begin this back with the impressionists and leading into, say, cubism and beyond. Most modern art is abstract to a degree in technique though not necessarily subject matter. If you are referring to the subjectless sort of art such as, say, a Pollock painting, I find that it can be beautiful if done properly. A great lot of it is not. Paul Klee is among my favorite artists of all time and I'd say he's pretty abstract but manages to develop a visual language that still draws the viewer in and defines his pieces. Interpreting his works is the most fun because there's so many ways you can fill in those shapes in your mind. I love the ability to form new "languages" through abstraction because I am very fond of symbolism in art. In short I like a good deal of it.
What was the last book you read? Was it any good?
I am in the middle of reading Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. It's pretty amusing.

Re: GtKaP Interview Thread 1: Trog
Chain:
What are your kids like?
They are awesome.
The oldest is in high school as a freshman and is getting pretty good grades. He's in some advanced math courses. He's obsessed with the Simpsons, and pretty much any and every comic strip published (current obsession is Bloom County), the Muppets, Fraggle Rock, making music in the various computers and streaming Netflix over his iPod touch. He's growing like a weed and getting pretty tall.
My youngest is in the 5th grade and just broke up with his girlfriend today. Ah young love. Kid takes after his dad and started crushing on girls early. I'm making his favorite for supper tonight which got a cheer so I'll do my best to take his mind off of things. He's very very social and is usually found outside causing mischief of some sort with his friends. Recently that was setting up a lemonade stand and using the proceeds to purchase water balloons for a water balloon fight. Earlier in the year he was obsessed with Runescape and was always on the phone with his friends to coordinate playing it. Now that the weather has improved he's out doing physical stuff instead, which is good.
Both have pretty awesome senses of humor, good artistic skills, and are good kids all around and I love them to pieces.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to make the white turkey chili. I'll leave you with our interpretation of the painting American Gothic:

Yay! You like David Sedaris! Have you seen him perform?
Can you perceive your reaction if one of your children had to come out of the closet to you? Is this in poor taste to ask? (They sound delightful by the way. )

Kneenibble:
Yay! You like David Sedaris! Have you seen him perform?
I've heard him do readings but otherwise no. Upon examining his jacket photo he looks nothing like I thought he would. o.O
Can you perceive your reaction if one of your children had to come out of the closet to you? Is this in poor taste to ask? (They sound delightful by the way. )
I was actually thinking of this just the other day for some odd reason. My first reaction would be to tell them I'm proud of them for telling me. And then I'd tell them that I love them very much no matter what their preference and that I just want them to be happy. Though I admit I'd worry about them because it's a life's path that can often be difficult to walk down. But I suppose I worry about them anyway. It's not in poor taste - every parent should at least consider their reaction to something like this should it arise. Both to consider their own feelings in the matter and to figure out how best to convey this to their child in a manner that they won't regret later.
What's the best bean you've brewed?
Jamaican Blue Mountain. Easily the world's best coffee bean.
What's the best barley soda you've glugged?
New Glarus once made a one-time batch of an apple ale. It was heavenly. Sadly they will never make it again. For beer that is still in existence the award goes to Hippie's Nut Brown Ale, hands down. P=

Wait!
Cottleston Cottleston Cottleston pie.
It was from Winnie the Pooh. I just remembered.
Neck rub or foot massage?
Is this giving or receiving? I'll answer it both ways I guess.
First of all I will say that, while married, I gave my then wife a back rub and/or foot rub every day we were together. Yes, EVERY day. For a solid decade. She told me before the ceremony that if I just gave her a massage every day she'd be happy. So I always did. So, for the record, I rock at massages just due to sheer experience, really. She kept insisting that I should get a job doing it.
And while I probably prefer to give a back massage, I'm better at foot massages. Though after I finish one my hands always ache from applying all that pressure. But I have been known to turn girls into goo with them.
And I must admit that I often find them relaxing to give barring my hands getting terribly achey. Though I have found a pressure point in my hands to release some of the tension myself if it comes to that I suppose.
As for receiving I probably have to go with a foot massage. I've only really had two or three good foot rubs in my life but a good one is AMAZING. I'm a tall guy and I carry so much tension there. Plus a good foot rub can relax your entire body if you do it right. My shoulders can be tense too I suppose but I don't notice it as much as I do when my dogs are barking, as they say.
Who is your favorite Muppet?
Pépe the king prawn is the most entertaining, okays? But if you asked me which muppet puppet I would most like to own I'd have to say Uncle Deadly. I've wanted that one since I was a kid.
Do you have a favorite museum? Which one?
I love art museums the most I guess. And of the ones I have visited I'd have to say I liked the Minneapolis Institute of Arts the most. Such a joy to peruse the works there. And so much to see! I can't imagine me at the Louvre. I'd have to block out a day and take it at a run, probably. And then mostly I'd want to hit the works of Rembrandt, Degas, Klee and see any of the Egyptian stuff - especially the Amarna period. Maybe a smidge of Neoclassicism too. Plus the usual hit-list of the most famous stuff.Last edited by Trog; 2011-05-10 at 09:43 PM.

Re: GtKaP Interview Thread 1: Thanatos 51-50
1. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? If so, who?
A few, actually. The first "real" one I can think of is Michelle, from Onimusha 3, although I can't remember why.
2. What is one thing about yourself you're the most proud of?
Holy <expletive deleted>, Batman! I'm still breathing!
In all honesty, I'm not sure what "Pride" is or what it feels like. I'll get back to you on that.
3. Roses or orchids?
Generally, I prefer roses. Especially white ones.
4. What sustains you, keeps you going every day?
Adenosine triphosphate
5. How did you get to be so awesome?
I stole some of yours. Hope you don't mind.
6. Where were you ten years ago, and what do you know now that you wish you knew back then?
Ten years ago - I was twelve, so, living in California with my Mum and Dad, still labouring under the false belief that their marriage was going well and my old man WASN'T an alcoholic. Also, really, really excited for my thirteenth birthday next week.
As for what I wish I knew - I value knowledge, all of it. So I wish I knew then EVERYTHING I know now.
7. If the human race vanished tomorrow, leaving only you and one other person to keep you company, who would you want that person to be?
The Love of my Life. She's at work as I type, but, yeah. Her. (<3)
8. Who is one person who died before you were born that you'd most like to speak with?
I have never thought of that before, but the top three names on my list are, for various reasons, and in order of wayback:
John the Baptist
Saint Francis of Asisi
Adolf Hitler
9. When your life comes to an end, how do you want to be remembered/what do you want to be remembered for?
"DUDE! Did you ever read his books?"
Also, I'd hope my wife would remember me as a good husband and a good person and my children would remember me as a good guy, who had honour.
10. Ga! These questions have taken a turn for the depressing! Quick, what is your favorite lolcat!? (Bonus cookies for posting a pic.)
11. What super-power would you want to use to stop Godzilla if he was attacking where you live?
I'd love to be a Technopath or have the ability to turn invisible and inaudible at will, but I think electrokinesis would be much more useful for stopping Godzilla. Ultimately, though, I think I'd like to be a Green Lantern. Problem solved.
12. Beards or babies?
I can grow a beard, I cannot grow a baby. Babies are infinetly more complicated and complex and are actually alive. I think it will shock you to learn that, additionally, I, too, was once a baby.
I'll go with Babies.
13. Have you ever made up a word? If so, what is that word and what is its definition?
<Expletive redacted> (Because it is an expletive)
14. Define the following word: whiloplenulent?
Wormhole leading to an extra-dimensional plane with an excess of peanuts.
15. What's an old-fashioned song or short schmaltzy bit of poetry that's stuck in your head?
O Captain, my Captain
Our Fearful Trip is Done
The Ship has weather'd E'ry rack
The Prize we sought is won
16. Favorite mythological monster?
Griffins. They can SMELL GOLD.
17. Enough of this! I am your arch-nemesis! Where will we fight our final, climactic battle?
Why, nowhere but upon the high seas during a storm as the life-energies of the multiverse flow around us, a million screaming souls calling out for salvation There is darkness, punctuated by brief flashes and bands of lightning as the Earth itself rages at the terrible, terrible hole torn open inside of Her. There is blood, and sea-foam and steel and non-skid and chunks of ice larger than any man washing up on deck, all ignored by us in our epic struggle.
Or, y'know, in your bedroom, while you sleep, but that isn't very climatic.
18. In #17, above, did you defeat me? If so, how?
I stabbed you. Or shot you. Or bludgeoned you. Or otherwise Mutilated youbeyond the ability to live, yes. Most likely weapon would be aforementioned giant chunks of ice washing up on deck hitting you in the head and caving your skull in. Your defeat, however, is only half the battle.
Alternately, duh, I shot you in the face as you were sleeping. I don't play fair.
19. Do you prefer the silly questions or the serious ones?
/me looks back on his responses
I seem to prefer the silly ones.
20. Why did you decide to submit yourself to these torturous, probing questions?
I like telling stories, and all this is is telling true stories about myself. Plus, I wanted to see if anyone actually, y'know, ASKED something.
Why are you the personification of death?
Why aren't you?
Honestly, the story behind my screen-name is long and, well, storied.
If you had an FN P90, what would you name it?
Li'l Dakka
Do you feel pretty? Oh so pretty? Do you feel pretty and witty and gay? And do you pity any girl who is not you today?
Who's that pretty girl in that mirror there? Who could that attractive girl be? I hate this Musical! And the play it was based upon! Oh, please, sir, do take Pity on ME!
How are you and Eros doing after...you know ?
We... Um...
We don't talk about that. Not anymore. Mostly because, well, y'know, he doesn't talk anymore.NaNoWriMo Beat Me

Re: GtKaP Interview Thread 1
1. Do you hold grudges? If so, for how long?
Nope. I don't hold grudges. Things are slippery.
2. What's your favorite band/musician?
Asking me who my favourite band/musician is is like asking Ramona Flowers what her hair colour is. That said, currently it's Emilie Autmun.
3. Do you like juice? If so, what is your favorite kind of juice. If not, what would you rather drink?
MMMmmm, Cherry Limeade. I'll pour myself a glass as soon as I'm done here.
4. Which do you prefer, wool or cotton?
Wool is ITCHY!
5. Have you ever owned a slinky?
Good Sir, there is a metal slinky on my desk as I type. Its primary uses are holding my keys and helping me think when I'm writing.
6. If you could take on the mantle of an established comic-book character, which one would you choose? That is, if you could become Batman, Superman, Mysterio, Magneto, Nite Owl, etc., which would you want to become?
We've discussed this, non? Green Lantern. (Also Iron Man).
7. Which is your favorite meal of the day?
The delicious one.
8. Do you eat a lot of snacks?
Nope.
9. What is your favorite restaurant?
The one I'm at. (Which is, to say, none, currently)
10. Who was the most recent person you talked to in person?
My room-mate Kristen.
11. What was the last thing you said to that person?
"That's because it didn't. You probably had it on silent." (We were looking for her phone.)
12. Which of the following two words do you think makes a sentence creepier when added to the end: 'ladies' or 'hard'?
[oldspiceguyvoice]Ladies.[/oldspiceguyvoice]
13. What do you think of when you read the word 'fishmember?'
Austin Powers in: Goldmember
14. Do you like haiku?
Do I like Haiku?
Not particularly, no.
Not my cup of tea.
15. If you had a choice between zombies or aliens destroying humanity, which would you choose?
Aliens. I like to stick to the plausible.
16. Sufficiently advanced aliens visit earth and say they'll change just one thing about you. It can be anything at all. What would you choose?
The fact that I don't have the knowledge to perform such miracles myself without their intervention. (Wishing for More Wishes, for the win!)
17. Do you think aliens from another planet ever actually visit Earth?
It's possible, although I think the probability is minimal.
18. Do you prefer to control a project from beginning to end, always repair the same flaw in someone else's project, choose to leave well enough alone, or some other mode of creation I haven't figured out here?
I'M A HELPER!
19. You could build your dream house within five miles of your current home. What goes into it?
More distance.
20. I give you a seed; you water it with your favorite bit of poetry. What sprouts from it?
A human heart, weeping blood.
Do you, in fact, have any cheese here at all?
Let me check:
Yes. I also now have a can of orange soda. I'm too lazy to move stuff to get at the limeade.
Will you go quietly when they come for you?
But that precludes taking them with me!
What is your anti-zombie weapon of choice?
Let's see:
There's the Naginata:
Spoiler
Or the Halbred:

Are you running to something, or from something?
