I need cold weather riddles
I hate to get too specific, but I need at least 6 riddles regarding cold weather. And I do not want to use the "0 degrees farenheit outside" riddle because nobody in my roleplaying group is a chemistry major and I'm not that evil. The answers do not have to be multiple words, or even letters, as long as they have an answer(which I'm fairly certain is what makes a riddle).
All the riddles you can manage to give me will be much appreciated.

Re: I need cold weather riddles
I'm thrice again larger than all you can see,
Yet lighter by far than my weighty ancestry.
SpoilerAn Iceberg. Ice is lighter than the water it is formed from, and most of an iceberg is hidden below the surface of the water. This one might be rather difficult without more hints though...
Ingredients
2oz Djinn
5oz Water
1 Lime Wedge
Instructions
Pour Djinn and tonic water into a glass filled with ice cubes. Stir well. Garnish with lime wedge. Serve.

Re: I need cold weather riddles
I appreciate the effort. I don't know how well it will go over, but I'll use it. I'd be willing to try and other riddles, too.
@navar: That one's funny. I think I'll try and use that one, too. Just need to change the punchline up a little, which I think I can handle on my own.

Re: I need cold weather riddles
You can rewrite it to be less chemistry inclined if you like:
I am the bane of the mariner
A tooth in in the sea
What am I?
This avoids all the extra fluff (lighter than what I'm made of, more of me is hidden than seen, etc) but chuck them together to make whatever riddle you want.

Re: I need cold weather riddles
Oh my, these riddles are very helpful. Thanks, everyone.
For reference, I need at least two more. Three would be optimal. Not trying to rush anybody. Thank you all for the help so far.

Re: I need cold weather riddles
"Weighty ancestry" seems like it could throw some people off.
If I didn't know it was an iceberg already, then I might have trouble with it.
This seems too obvious.
Do they need to be riddles, or can it be more like an algebra/word problem?
One thing you can do is put a riddle with no answer, and just see what happens.Last edited by Popertop; 2011-04-24 at 09:04 PM.

Re: I need cold weather riddles
Another wording for the icicle riddle: "Lives in winter, dies in summer, grows with its root upwards."
A variation on a standard form, the answer being "breath" -- "Light as a feather yet you cannot hold it five minutes; you may see it before you but your hands will never capture it."
Snow in an old man's beard: "Silver draped in white, I make the men bow their heads."
Glare: "Though ne'er you look to the sky, still I will burn your eye. Banished by verdure, boulders or mice, I still rule the places where only is ice."
If the cold is due to extreme latitude and the characters are from temperate areas, you can put in a riddle about the changing length of the day.

Re: I need cold weather riddles
Thank you for the riddles!
While we're talking about building on stuff, I fixed up the Black Ice/Sleet riddle. I wanted to see what you all thought of it.
Snow comes under the sky bright,
Hail could come in the long night.
But something between is a true fright!
After, it remains in sight.
Encounter it and it's right back to night.
For you, at least.
What am I?

Re: I need cold weather riddles
If I may suggest one last one, with accompanying problem:
Players get to a sign hung on a frozen tree. It reads, "Who's got neither leaves nor nuts?" Give it to the reader on a piece of paper, so he can read it aloud to the party.
At which point, the very cold, very annoyed treant gives the double-thumbs, and shouts, "This guy right heah!"
