The whole process of birth itself seems incredably traumatic for all involved, but that might have something to do with the common postition for childbirth being pretty close to being the worst position possible.

Theoreticaly you could of just said you know which book it was in because analyzing the horrible ness that is that series will help you become more literate.

Huh. For whatever reason I was remembering it as a trilogy. Oh, well. They were fun, but I don't think I'd reread them. Watching two emotional cripples just stupid enough to truly deserve each other make googly eyes at each other only has limited appeal.

Doctors already know that. They have you give birth on your back because despite being the worst position for both the mother and baby (and leading to a bunch of complication) it's the most practical one for the doctor. And they tend to prefer procedures that are all planned and so on rather than have to adapt to every single case (since they'll already have to adapt to anything that goes wrong).

So, yeah, don't worry about it, the doctors already know all about that. The best position is the one the mother will feel best in, and usually that involve gravity working with you and not against you. Some moving around can help too. In the end it depends on the person though (and of the baby, the same woman might find different positions to be the best giving birth to different children).

Also, they do this every day, which means that they'll be at increased risk for work-related injuries if they have to work in some ungodly position that requires them to sprain all their muscles. Few women give birth more than four or five times.
