    Default Blood Bath: Crowded Diplomacy

    Spring 1901

The forces of Europe are mobilizing. All throughout the continent, armies are drilling, fleets are loading supplies onto ships and heading out to draw stalemate lines in the ocean. It would seem, sometimes, as though every man between the age of 16 and 40 was getting ready to go to war.

There had been some near misses, some almost-incidents already. The military might being displayed was so great, there were so many armies that it was almost impossible not to run into each other.

If they ever came to blows, it would be a Blood Bath.

First off, everyone needs to post here to confirm his or her continued presence. Use this post to specify the method of communication you would prefer: email or PM. Also use this post to introduce yourself and the character in which you will be conducting negotiations. That character can be yourself, that's fine, but it's helpful for people to know how to address you.

For those who are new, I need to emphasize a couple of things:
    1. Turn your orders in a day early for the first couple of turns. These don't have to be your final draft and it's really only a recommendation, but this way I can check and make sure everything you're doing is completely legal. If, when I'm processing orders, I find a mistake, it just doesn't get processed.
    2. You might want to check out an older game, just to make sure you understand how things work. You can find a good example game to look at here
    3. Have fun.

Also, about submitting orders: any format is okay as long as it is absolutely clear what is meant. Examples for france:

    F bre-mao
Fleet brest moves to mid atlantic ocean
France F BRE moves to MAO

and so on. Just make it clear.

F edi-nor is an example of an order that would not be processed. This could indicate that the fleet wishes to move to the Norwegian Sea or the North Sea.

One last thing: All PMs sent to me, relating to this game, should have "BB:" at the beginning of the title. I'm running two diplomacy games and this will help me differentiate the two.

Okay, get diplomating. Send those PMs, stab each other in the backs, etc.

Spring 1901 orders are due Tuesday, August 2 10pm PDT

Well. I'm here. Call me Kaiser Murska for now - if I have time to develop a real RP persona, I'll notify you all. And I don't really check my email like, ever. So use PMs.

Moody out of retirement. Shular back. wow this brings back memories. This really will be a blood bath.

PM's please. I am also in another game, so if you could include "Diplomacy BB" in the subject of any messages it would be helpful.

P.S. I would ally with you any day Moody.

Communications with the ... uh, Whatever of Norway can be directed to my PM inbox, or my AIM - preferred if you have one too (Londonwerewolf6).

Also, (and especially if you're new) if you want to download the program wamp uses to make these maps (and adjudicate the turns), it's fast, simple, and free here: http://jdip.sourceforge.net/download.html It's fun to play with and see how different things would work out.

Interested to see how this turns out. My internet access will be sporadic over the following two weeks and a half, but inasfar as I am an alternate I am also willing to act as a publisher of anonymous press, should any of the acting leaders find that useful.

    Balkans Unified

Since the days of ancient Greece, the Balkan states have seen constant warfare, both internally and from external powers. Throughout most of the second millenia, it has been the battlefield between the muslims of the south and the christians of the north.

With the advent of new and more powerful weaponry, the Balkan people have finally unified in their desire to no longer be crushed down beneath other nations, and have risen up to declare their union.

The newly elected President of the United Balkan States urges the other nations to respect its newly designated borders, and offers support to those who will acknowledge and work with the UBS.

6 of 11 (not counting alts ) responded within the first 24 hours. Not the best sign. Sometimes people sign up for a game then forget about it, so a PM to the non-responsive players might be worth while.

Especially in a game like this, too many NMRs will kill it.

Oh, btw, is it too late to indicate the power I don't want?

Depending on which symbols you're referring to, those could be the armies/fleets, the little concentric circles that indicate a location is a supply center or the three letter codes that name each location.

Are you referring to the little dots? If so, those represent supply centers. Boiled down to simplest terms, at the end of the fall turn, the number of supply centers you control will dictate how many units you will have for the next year. Once you control a dot at the end of fall moves, you continue to control it (even if you move out) unless another power has a unit in it at the end of the fall moves.

If, by symbols, you mean the little tanks and ships, those represent armies and fleets respectively. Armies cannot move to or support actions taken in sea zones (aside from being convoyed), and fleets can only affect sea zones and coastal territories. Ships can move from one coastal territory to an adjacent one, except in Spain (a fleet on south coast cannot move to Gas), St. Petersberg (Russian fleet starts on South Coast, so cannot move to Norway), and Bulgaria (fleet on Black Sea side cannot move to Greece). Armies are under no such restriction.

OMG Niezck, you're new to Diplomacy?

Playing England, might I suggest that you review carefully the convoy rules? They're especially important for you. In previous games I've run into actual negotiations impasses because the English player didn't understand what it was possible to do with his fleets.

Don't be ridiculous. Convoys just lead to sea sickness. England has absolutely no need to convoy anything. Ever. Especially not across to the other side of the North Sea.

On another note, would you mind changing to the period-style units, wamp? (The cannon and the boat) They're MUCH easier to distinguish between, and while I rarely have trouble, I've seen some people live's ruined because they ordered tanks out to sea or boats into landlocked provinces. =p
