I assumed YukYuk reloaded (though, that custom reloading thing would be NICE... should ask my DM about homebrewing it). As to Phantasmal Killer, YukYuk (however unlikely) made his save.

Yukyuk may get a circumstance bonus on "disbelieve" since he's Z's teammate and ... probably ... knows Z has the PK spell.

After all, if you're on the team of an evil wizard, it's pro-survival to find out how he can kill you, and maybe think of a few countermeasures.

That common cat has been Belkar's animal companion for some time now, and as an animal companion he benefits, among other things, from increased hit dice over the common example of the species. Meaning he has a lot more HP than you might think.

Yes. A housecat has more health than a fully grown adult humanoid. This makes so much sense.

Actually it does, but only according to D&D rules. It's always a little fun to step back and see just how bizarre these rules might be in the real world.

It's due to magic. A ranger's animal companion works the same way a druid's does, so the extra HP and abilities and such are due to magical magic magicking its magical way throughout all of magic reality.

I love Vaarsuvius so much right now. Even though Dr. Epic definitely called this, it was still an awesome strip, and his deadpan snark (What little of it there was) was superb. I honestly think he's moved up on my list of favorite characters.

However that doesn't explain the lack of arrows in Z. Unless you're presuming that the drow is attempting to remove them while in mid-flight at the risk of slowing himself down or so. It would seem that the bolts are disappearing and reappearing into the crossbow.

The idea itself is viable, but it just doesn't mesh with what is being depicted unless there is something I have not considered or they are indeed being removed off-panel.
Arrows don't usually persist in the strip, unless there's a reason to, like with Scruffy, or the poison arrow in V in 712. Returning isn't something you can enchant arrows or bows with anyway, and the description is that it flies back to the thrower, rather than vanishing and reappearing.

The rule for tracking fired arrows in 3/3.5E are unrecoverable if it's a hit, and 50% chance unrecoverable if missed. Beyond that, they're not tracked. Not that arrows are usually tracked before they're fired either, it's one of those tedious things that usually gets ignored.

Not the first time Rock-Paper-Scissors has been mentioned, or implied.

I wouldn't be surprised if, upon looking back at the end of the strip, there were an awful lot of recurring themes like that that turned out to be significant at the end.

How would blocking it solve the problem? People would still say the names of tropes, stopping links doesn't block the tropes. It'd just be "Trope" instead of "Link to said trope".
