Class Features The following are all class features of the Moonblessed.

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Moonblessed are proficient with all simple weapons, and with light armor but no shields.

Because the somatic components required for Moonblessed invocations are relatively simple, a Moonblessed can use any of her invocations while wearing light armor without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. However, like arcane spellcasters, a Moonblessed wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield incurs a chance of arcane spell failure (all invocations, including lunar radiance, have a somatic component). A multiclass Moonblessed still incurs the normal arcane spell failure for arcane spells received from levels in other classes.

Invocations: A Moonblessed does not prepare or cast spells as other wielders of arcane magic do. Instead, she possesses a repertoire of attacks, defenses, and abilities known as invocations that require her to focus the lunar energy that suffuses her soul. A Moonblessed can use any invocation she knows at will, with the following qualifications:

A Moonblessed's invocations are spell-like abilities; using an invocation is therefore a standard action that provokes attacks of opportunity, unless the invocation replicates the effects of a spell, in which case the normal casting time of the spell it replicates is the activation time of that invocation. An invocation can be disrupted, just as a spell can be ruined during casting. A Moonblessed is entitled to a Concentration check to successfully use an invocation if she is hit by an attack while invoking, just as a spellcaster would be. A Moonblessed can choose to use an invocation defensively, by making a successful Concentration check, to avoid provoking attacks of opportunity. A Moonblessed's invocations are subject to spell resistance unless an invocation's description states otherwise. A Moonblessed's caster level with her invocations is equal to his Moonblessed level.

The save DC for an invocation (if it allows a save) is 10 + equivalent spell level + the Moonblessed's Charisma modifier. Since spell-like abilities are not actually spells, a Moonblessed cannot benefit from the Spell Focus feat. She can, however, benefit from the Ability Focus feat, as well as feats that alter the way spell-like abilities function, such as the Empower Spell-like Ability or Quicken Spell-like Ability feats.

The four grades of invocations, in order of their relative power, are least, lesser, greater, and radiant. A Moonblessed begins with knowledge of one invocation of the least grade. As a Moonblessed gains levels, she gains additional invocations known, as shown on the table above.

At any level when a Moonblessed learns a new invocation, he can also replace a single invocation he already knows with another invocation of the same or a lower grade.

Finally, unlike other spell-like abilities, invocations are subject to arcane spell failure as described under Weapon and Armor Proficiency, above. Moonblessed are considered arcane or divine spell casters for the purpose of qualifying for prestige classes, feats, and so on, but never both at once for any single qualification. More information is available on page 18 of Complete Arcane.

Lunar Radiance (Sp): A Moonblessed's link with the heavens manifests itself first and foremost in a silvery glow to her eyes and skin in the light of the night sky. This glow sheds light as a candle in shadowy or darker levels of illumination, though the Moonblessed may suppress the glow as a standard action for as long as she wishes.

As a standard action, the Moonblessed may channel a fragment of this link into a blast of silvery light, striking a foe within 30 feet for 1d6 untyped damage. Against creatures in a form not their own (such as by being under the effects of a polymorph spell or a Druid wild shaped into another creature), or those with the shapechanger subtype, lunar radiance instead deals 1d8 damage. A successful Reflex save, DC 10+1/2 Moonblessed level+Cha modifier halves the damage. At 3rd level and every two levels thereafter, the damage inflicted by lunar radiance increases by one die.

Alternately, a Moonblessed with multiple attacks due to base attack bonus may create one blast of lunar radiance for each iterative she would be allowed if she takes a full-round action to channel the blasts.

Detect Shapechangers (Sp): Beginning at 2nd level, a Moonblessed can use detect shapechangers as a spell-like ability at will. Her caster level equals her class level.

Detect Silver (Sp): Beginning at 2nd level, a Moonblessed can use detect silver as a spell-like ability at will. Her caster level equals her class level.

Damage Reduction (Su): Reinforced by the lunar energies flowing through her veins, a Moonblessed becomes resistant to physical attacks. Beginning at 3rd level, a Moonblessed gains damage reduction 2/silver. At 7th level and every four levels thereafter, the Moonblessed's damage reduction increases by an additional two points.

Destroy Undead (Su): Beginning at 4th level, a Moonblessed gains the ability to channel celestial energy through a symbol of special significance to her, much as a Cleric channels divine energy through a holy symbol of their god. A Moonblessed can destroy undead a number of times per day equal to 3 + Cha modifier.

Using this ability is a standard action, during which the Moonblessed prominently displays her symbol, which releases a flare of lunar energy not unlike her lunar radiance ability, dealing 1d6 points of damage per level to all undead creatures within 30 feet of the Moonblessed. Affected undead are allowed a Will save, DC 10+1/2 Moonblessed level+Cha modifier for half damage.

Undead with turn resistance can subtract that number from the damage they take from each destroy undead attempt. For example, a vampire with +4 turn resistance takes 4 fewer points of damage each time he takes damage from this ability.

When using this ability against incorporeal creatures, the Moonblessed does not need to roll a 50% miss chance; destroy undead affects all undead creatures in the area, regardless of incorporeality.

Destroy undead is considered Turn Undead for all purposes, including, but not limited to, prestige class qualification and fueling [Divine] feats.

Beguile Item (Ex): Beginning at 6th level, a Moonblessed has the ability to more easily use magic items made for others. When making a Use Magic Device check, a Moonblessed can take 10 even if distracted or threatened.

Moonmist Form (Su): Beginning at 8th level, a Moonblessed can take on a misty, transparent form for a number of rounds per day equal to her Charisma modifier as a swift action. While in this form, the Moonblessed gains the Incorporeal subtype and functions as an incorporeal creature in all regards, save that she cannot pass through entirely solid objects unless they are sufficiently porous to allow mist to drift through.

The Moonblessed may divide her time spent in this form as she wishes; returning to her normal form is a free action.

Imbue Item (Su): A Moonblessed of 10th level or higher can use her lunar magic to create magic items, even if she does not know the spells required to make an item (although she must know the appropriate item creation feat). She can substitute a Use Magic Device check (DC 15 + spell level for arcane spells or 25 + spell level for divine spells) in place of a required spell she doesn’t know or cannot cast. If the check succeeds, the Moonblessed can create the item as if she had cast the required spell. If it fails, she cannot complete the item. She does not expend the XP or gp costs for making the item; her progress is simply arrested. She cannot retry this Use Magic Device check for that spell until she gains a new level.

Pierce the Veil (Su): Beginning at 12th level, a Moonblessed is considered to be under a permanent true seeing effect, except that the effect only applies to discerning the true form of polymorphed, changed, or transmuted things and creatures. The Moonblessed may suppress and resume this effect as a free action.

Force Shapechange (Su): Beginning at 14th level, a Moonblessed can force a creature to revert to its original form. The Moonblessed makes a melee touch attack against her target; if successful, she makes a caster level check as if casting greater dispel magic against the shapechanging effect. Effects that increase the result of dispel checks increase the result of Force Shapechange too. Against supernatural or extraordinary effects, treat the dispel DC as 10 + HD of the originating creature.

Force Shapechange undoes the effects of spells such as alter self, polymorph, shapechange and the like, and also undoes the effects of alternate form and shapeshift abilities, whether extraordinary, spell-like, or supernatural in nature. On a successful check, the affected creature cannot change its shape again for 1d6 rounds.

Greater Moonmist Form: Beginning at 16th level, a Moonblessed may choose to become ethereal instead of merely incorporeal when using her Moonmist Form ability.

Shapechange (Sp): Beginning at 18th level, a Moonblessed may use shapechange as a spell-like ability once per day.

Lunar Rebirth (Su): At 20th level, the Moonblessed undergoes a transformation, becoming forevermore a creature of moonlight. Her type changes to Outsider, with the Native subtype. She is considered native to any plane without the Dead Magic trait. In addition, while in an area of moonlight, she gains Regeneration 10, bypassed only by silver weapons.

    Moonblessed Invocations

Moonblessed choose the invocations they learn as they gain levels, much like bards or sorcerers choose which spells to learn. However, a Moonblessed's arcane repertoire is even more limited than that of a sorcerer, and her invocations are spell-like abilities, not spells.

In addition to its grade (least, lesser, greater, or radiant), every invocation has a spell level equivalent, which is used in the calculation of save Dcs and for other purposes. A least invocation has a level equivalent of 1st or 2nd; a lesser, 3rd or 4th; a greater, 5th or 6th; and a radiant invocation has a level equivalent of 6th or higher (maximum 9th). The level equivalent for each invocation is given in its description.

A Moonblessed can dismiss any invocation as a standard action, just as a sorcerer can dismiss a spell.

Invocations and Lunar Radiance: Lunar radiance is not an invocation, but some invocations provide a Moonblessed with the ability to modify her lunar radiance or add new lunar attacks.

    Lunar Essence Invocations
Some of a Moonblessed's invocations, such as dazzling moonbeam, modify the damage or other effects of the Moonblessed's lunar radiance. These are called lunar essence invocations. Unless noted otherwise, lunar radiances modified by lunar essence invocations deal damage normally in addition to imparting the effects described in the invocation description.

A Moonblessed may apply a lunar essence to her lunar radiance as a free action; once used, it applies to all uses of lunar radiance until the start of the next round.

A Moonblessed can apply a lunar essence invocation and a lunar shape invocation (see below) to the same lunar radiance. When a Moonblessed uses both kinds of invocations to modify a lunar radiance, the spell level equivalent is equal to the spell level of the lunar radiance, the level of the lunar essence invocation, or the level of the lunar shape invocation, whichever is higher.

If a lunar essence invocation mentions a save inherent to lunar radiance but your lunar radiance ability is altered to not allow a save (whether by means of a lunar shape invocation or otherwise) the lunar essence invocation gains a Reflex save to negate its effects.

You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (but see Bardic Music, below). If you had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a Moonlight Dancer, you must decide which class to add each level to for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells know.

Invocations: At each level beyond 1st, you gain new invocations known and an increase in caster level as if you had also gained a level in an invocation-using class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (but see Lunar Radiance, below). If you had more than one invocation-using class before becoming a Moonlight Dancer, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining caster level and invocations known.

Bardic Music: A Moonlight Dancer adds each level in this prestige class to any one class with access to bardic music that she possessed prior to entering this prestige class for the purpose of determining uses per day and bardic music abilities known.

Moondance: A Moonlight Dancer is grace incarnate. With just the slightest effort, what was previously seen as mundane may become supernatural, while what was previously mystic in nature may become ordinary.

A Moonlight Dancer may expend one or more daily uses of her bardic music ability to fuel her moonmist form ability instead of consuming rounds available to her. Additionally, she may expend available rounds of her moonmist form ability to fuel feats and effects that require uses of bardic music.

Lunar Radiance (Sp): At 2nd level and every two levels thereafter, the Moonlight Dancer increases the damage dealt by her lunar radiance by 1d6 points (or 1d8 points against appropriate creatures).

Flowing Strike (Ex): Strike and move, strike and move, ever onward in the deadly dance.

While under the effects of the Snowflake Wardance feat, whenever a Moonlight Dancer of 3rd level or higher performs a full attack, she may move up to her speed before, during, or after the attacks, divided as she wishes.

Beguiling Moonlight (Su): While under the effects of the Snowflake Wardance feat, whenever a Moonlight Dancer of 5th level or higher strikes a creature with the weapon formed from her moon blade invocation, she may expend one remaining round of her moonmist form to force the struck creature to make a Will save, DC 10+1/2 HD+Cha modifier, or be dazed for one round. Once a creature succumbs to this effect, it is immune to this ability until the Moonlight Dancer begins a new Snowflake Wardance.

Moonlight Riposte (Su): While under the effects of the Snowflake Wardance feat, whenever a Moonlight Dancer of 7th level or higher is the target of a melee attack, she may expend a daily use of bardic music and an available round of moonmist form to first make a single melee attack against the foe attacking her, and then become incorporeal until the end of the attacking creature's turn (or the turn of whichever creature is currently acting, in the case of an attack of opportunity).

Cavorting 'twixt the Moonbeams (Su): While under the effects of the Snowflake Wardance feat, a Moonlight Dancer of 9th level or higher may become incorporeal for the duration of any movement she makes, without expending daily rounds of her moonmist form ability.

Join the Dance (Su): While under the effects of the Snowflake Wardance feat, whenever a Moonlight Dancer of 10th level strikes a foe in melee, she may expend a daily use of bardic music to affect the struck creature as if she had cast otto's irresistible dance on it. Unlike most supernatural abilities, Join the Dance is subject to spell resistance. Once a creature has succumbed to this ability, it is immune to the effect for 24 hours.

Destroy Undead is interesting, but how much do you want turn resistance to reduce damage? As of now, turn resistance is so weak against this effect it might as well not be mentioned.
If you wanted undead to have a chance to resist the effect you might want to do something along the lines of: For each point of turn resistance a single die of damage (from destroy undead) is minimized. Or you could simply grant it as a bonus to their save.
This is also the first time I've seen someone use supernatural DR as a straight-up class ability (instead of through a spell or similar effect). I like the idea (and might steal it at some point).
1d2 round for radiant assault is sort of weird. I've never seen die like that. Well, I have, but...
I like it though. Moon-themed classes are cool.

    *shrug*

That's a near word-for-word duplicate of the Destroy Undead alternate class feature from Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. I would have just called it out as such, except that it's a rather obscure sourcebook.

I really like invocation casters. I feel the Dragonfire Adept, for instance, is one of the more balanced casters in the entire game. I wish there were more. In fact, I was developing one some time ago, I'll have to finish it.

The flavor also is much much better than a lot of official material stuff. I would enjoy trying this class out some time.

Specific support: I really like the fact that it's anti-shapeshifter. That's pretty cool. There aren't many anti-shapeshifter things that I am aware of, so kudos.
    Moonfrost is great and necessary.
In fact, most of your invocations are pretty good, in my opinion

Specific criticism: The Lunar Radiance attack is somewhat confusing. Does it affect a square? It just says, select a foe, and it makes a reflex save. It doesn't need a ranged touch, right?
Shapechange at level 18: Really? How about polymorph more than once per day? Or wildshape? Frankly, a lot of GMs ban this ability.

Ambivalence: The capstone is pretty powerful. Almost too powerful. Then again, lots of things are too powerful, so it's probably okay.
Celestial Storm really reminds me of Hydro storm. I'd probably get this just so that I could find some Vampire or Lich and do this every turn over and over again.
Solid fog would fit in well, I think.

Correct. It's a short range, single target, reflex-half ability. I wanted to differentiate it from the usual eldritch blast clone.

Shapechange at level 18: Really? How about polymorph more than once per day? Or wildshape? Frankly, a lot of GMs ban this ability.
I'm aware that it can be abused, but someone inclined to abuse it could do so many levels earlier with a scroll if they wanted to. If someone is going to try to break the game with Overpowered Monster Ability X, that's between them and their DM. I think the ability is fitting as is, but the potential for abuse is there, as it is with any polymorph ability.

Yes it would. Thanks for the suggestion.

Interesting! I like this; it's kind of a moon-themed warlock.

How does Force Shapechange work with natural shapeshifters? It says to make a greater dispel magic check, but what would be be checking against, say, a weretiger? Would it be against a 7th level caster (7 Hit Dice), a 5th level caster (CR 5), or a 10th level caster (ECL 10)?

I would recommend renaming Destroy Undead to something else. (Disrupt Undead?) There is already an ability named Destroy Undead, from the Expedition to Castle Ravenloft book, and I believe it acts differently. If not, then just ignore me.

I would suggest base it on HD. It might make the mechanics a bit awkward at times (which wouldn't be new to the system) but it is much clearer what a creature's HD are than what their CR or ECL should be.

For the love of... Can you fix that table please? As a web developer having tables within tables is aggravating. I suspect you have a huge monitor, like I do. So as a little experiment, try un-maximizing while looking at the table, and shrinking the window to about half your screen. Watch what happens. So it also isn't good for people who run smaller monitors then you (Smaller being anyone with a 1500 or less. So only people running 720p+ monitors are okay.)

Huh. I must be really spoiled with my monitor, because even with a half-screen browser the table displays fine. Pity, because it looks so much better this way.

    Will 'fix' shortly.

    Edit: Fixed.

Are Beguiling Moonlight and Moonlight Riposte intended to use Bardic Music or Moonmist, of the player's choice, to power their abilities? Because right now, they cannot (although you could spend two rounds of Moonmist to power Moonlight Riposte, rather than one Moonmist + one Bardic Music).

You can. You can also fuel things that need bardic music (like snowflake wardance) by using rounds of Moonmist Form in place of music uses per day. As an aside, I don't know about you, but when I've got ~20 uses of bardic music a day, I'd spend one of them to become incorporeal as a swift action.

Are Beguiling Moonlight and Moonlight Riposte intended to use Bardic Music or Moonmist, of the player's choice, to power their abilities?
If it requires rounds of Moonmist Form, it subtracts from your available rounds of Moonmist Form for the day. Even if you hit 0 rounds available though, you can still use Moonmist Form as the base ability by expending bardic music.

Because right now, they cannot (although you could spend two rounds of Moonmist to power Moonlight Riposte, rather than one Moonmist + one Bardic Music).

Ahhh.... Yet another wonderful Invocation user to 'Thread Subscribe' to for future use! Seriously, I love this Moon-based class very much despite just a skim read.

Suggestions As few, and lousy as they may be...
    • From what I saw, your Lunar Radiance deals only Cold or Untyped damage. Don't get me wrong, Untyped is really cool. I'm not exactly sure where, but I think there was a published PrC that was lunar-based with electric spells. Why restrict yourself to only 2 types of damage?
    • Obviously this isn't a Warlock copy in that it restricts you in Alignment. So would some invocations that deal holy/unholy equivalent damage or alignment based requirements to use be out of hand?
    • Some of the 'Other' invocations in the Radiance section [Disintegrate at will against undead/shapechangers?] seem somewhat strong imho. Would a cool-down like how the Ebon Initiate or some other draw back balance that out?
    • Alot of the spells I recognize from skimming the Spell Compendium. But some people might not of seen, much less heard of the spells. Might I recommend siting the source and/or page if not typing up the whole spell for those unfortunate souls?
    • Invocation that allows you to survive out in Space much?
    • Invocation/class ability that gains different powers pending on the phase of the moon? [ie: Full=Lycanthrope transformation a-like, New=Shadow Walk spell?]
    • Why is it that I keep thinking about that dang moon that was falling in that Zelda game while thinking up advice/suggestions for you?

Sorry for the lack of any real good advice/suggestions. Its nearly 3am and I'm sleepy. Hope this helps ya!

Neither is quite accurate. There's no touch attack required, but it has much shorter range than an eldritch blast to compensate. Additionally, there's a Reflex save for half damage. While this might seem better than an eldritch blast at first glance, consider that nothing reduces EB's damage, and it's trivially easy to hit with a touch attack with a medium-BAB character.

Adding the location of some of the spells you list would be nice, just using the abbreviations inside [sup] [/sup] tags after naming the spell is great.
Edit: Oh, and I'd like more invocations pl0x.
Check my Steelsinger for a great list of Invocations. (Though I stole'em from another class of which the name escapes me)
In fact all the invocations would be nice, don't even need to refluff them...
Hm.. I'd also like it better if it was based on 5's rather then 6's. (So much smoother) so Lesser at 5, instead of 6 for example.

Also, the moonlight radiance "invocations" from the Invocations may be better off with they're own pool with which to have fun with your attack.

This class is very shiny (in the Firefly sense); I agree with the earlier sentiment that it's like the Warlock just enough to be easily understood.

The only problem that I can notice after a glance over (and I will read it more thoroughly, I promise) is the fact that at level 2 Monks and Rogues (and I've seen a ton of NPC Rogues) have Evasion, and you don't have many ways other than your Reflex-half Lunar Radiance to attack them. It seems to make Lunar Lancet a must-have.

Again, however, that only matters at lower levels; after that you have a variety of non-Reflex-save-giving options, and you can go back to fighting evil by the moonlight.

Check my Steelsinger for a great list of Invocations. (Though I stole'em from another class of which the name escapes me)
You took it from the Invoker class, even the fonts, colors, everything.

Circle of Life, you're quickly becoming my one of my favorite homebrewers. You design classes in a middle/low tier 3 sweet spot that I love. I'll give a more extensive review of the classes tommorrow night.

EDIT: As others have suggested, invocations should have their sources listed. Dragoonwraith's Invoker (linked above) has the perfect table to list all of them. I copied them, and added my own invocations, for my indigo trickster (in sig below), if you want another example.
