I seriously cannot think of a way to think out of the pitfall this is. I will just walk away and not ask for a link, even though I am dying to want one, because I will go crazy if I actually see it. *walks away calmly with a blank expression*

Try changing your screen name and re-entering, or logging out and then re-entering. It seems to be completely random and Pidgin forums have yet to yield and answer to the problem other than some suggestions that seem to work more consistently but not always.

I log out every time I X out of the conversation. Now I can't get back in. I'm constantly trying to re-enter, that's the problem, it wont work.

Have you tried changing the handle?

I had a problem too. completely delete the username (i.e.:[email protected]) and make one under the exact same name. should work fine. or get a new one wit a diff name.

You log to Pidgin with an account of another service.
You should be able to see that in >Account

to crack it open, grab your buddy list, then go to accounts>manage accounts, so you can grab a fresh one.
