3.5 Paladin Tweak #47,189: How Much Does It Help?
This isn't a wholesale fix, but something I'm looking at for a player who doesn't like Maneuvers/Stances and wants a holy warrior - and we don't have access to CDivine. He's considered a Cleric, but the group generally gets attitudinal if the Cleric isn't in healbot mode during combats. The party is otherwise light on healing.
The tweak:
A Paladin who successfully uses a Smite Evil on a target may choose, as a swift action, to heal a single ally within 30' for the amount of damage equal to that meted out in the Smite. Any extra healing is wasted.

I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make. You could look at my Paladin remix that's a few posts down. It doesn't have to learn any maneuvers at all.
And for your healing needs the Paladin has the Cure X Wounds line and Lay on Hands.

This doesn't change much. All the Smite problems are still there.
I say either use this paladin fix, or hit the players who think a cleric should be a healbot on the head with CWar and CChamp.Avatar of George the Dragon Slayer, from the upcoming Indivisible!
