Soundtracks for adventures on the High Seas?
So besides the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracks, which I've already thought of what other music would make a good background for a swashbuckling D&D game?
preferably no stuff with lyrics as that makes it harder to DM?Time is but a pattern in the currents of causality,
an ever changing present that determines our reality,
the past we see as history, the future seed with prophecy,
and all the time we think on time our time is passing constantly.

The soundtrack to Pirates of the Burning Sea has always worked pretty well for me.

Re: Soundtracks for adventures on the High Seas?
Now that that's taken care of.
Honestly, this or any of the suggested songs on the same page fit the theme pretty well in my opinion, and are instrumental to boot. They are mostly a bit more on the serious side, so you may need to look elsewhere for some more upbeat sounds.
Also I imagine any instrumental version of a classical sea shanty would go over quite well.

Re: Soundtracks for adventures on the High Seas?
The Soundtrack of the movie 1492: Conquest of Paradise has some nice tracks.
Do you use the mechanics to play the game,
or do you use the game to play the mechanics?

In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

Perhaps I'm odd, but I've always thought Jupiter (from the planets, Holst) sounded kind of swashbuckly

' Pirates of Penzanance ' by Gilbert and Sullivan (for the light hearted moments obviously)

Re: Soundtracks for adventures on the High Seas?
in the end I used Pirates of the caribbean, Pirates of the burning sea, conquest of paradise, master and commander, and empire total war, I think the choice of music suitbly inspired the players so thanks for the sugestions. I shall note down the other sugestions for later games!

Everything Named Dark Waters was made for a NWN2 campaign.
Best thing it's under a CC-license.

Re: Soundtracks for adventures on the High Seas?
The game Anno 1503 (that is 1503 AD for Americans) has a quite fitting soundtrack (some are actually instrumental versions of modern pop titles, but they still fit the theme quite well).
If you don't mind lyrics in another language (I find this a lot less distracting, but YMMV), there are some German titles you could use (or try to find an instrumental version of):
Die Ärzte - Kaperfahrt (this one is actually used in Anno 1503)
In Extremo - Segel Setzen
Rammstein - Die Flut
Subway To Sally - Knochenschiff
Subway To Sally - SeemannsliedWant a generic roleplaying system but find GURPS too complicated? Try GMS.

Demiliches. Why'd it have to be demiliches?
