LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
Welcome, everyone, to LGBTAitp's sweet sixteenth thread!
This is a thread where we Playgrounders, and LGBTAitp in particular, gather to discuss, share our experiences, give general advice and support one another in such matters as arise relating to, well, the world beyond heteronormativity.
Please note that although the title of the thread names only the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Asexual communities, it is intended as an all inclusive environment.
- Everyone is welcome. Let's try to keep from seeming otherwise.
- Keep this topic free of politics and religion. (so, don't violate the board rules, plz)
- It's beyond the scope of this thread to discuss whether LGBT is "Right." (And really, most discussions probably should avoid moralizing too much anyway)
- Please refrain from posting sexually explicit content. (Keep it friendly as well as board safe )
If you would rather be anonymous when asking for advice or sharing your story or views, you can use the address below to send a message to be posted in this thread via proxy.

Keep in mind that content which contain strong language may be filtered (Plus, y'know, the forum-filters), and content that violates the forum rules won't be posted at all.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
Ah, a new thread, a new fresh mint taste.
But importantly:
Why garbage? I may be a fan, but I am pretty sure it is just a cute kids' show with ponies and better writing than it's predecessors allegedly had. :3
Never really heard anyone say that before. A lot say you can't judge something you haven't watched/read/stuffed, but that's pretty common everywhere...
I must solve this mystery!

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
Okay, so it turns out my mother doesn't believe bisexuality exists. Like, I had to almost yell at her to half convince her that bisexuality is completely legitimate. This is kind of frustrating (obviously, it's not like a super huge deal, but I dislike bi-phobia).

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
I guess it's people thinking either:
- sexual attraction is simple and you can like one gender or the other, but not both, and since they know more about your sexuality than you do, they're right ()
- sexuality is a choice, and bisexuality doesn't exist, you're just homosexual one moment and heterosexual the other (double )
- you're just a slut and want to have sex with everything bipedal, and you could only be a slut if you were a bad daughter; since you otherwise appear to be a good girl, you can't possibly be a slut, right? Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
About the ponies. I haven't watched it, AFAIK, it's not aired where i live.
But i must say i'm quite puzzled by the way i cannot wander the intarwabz without seeing something about it and by the sheer number of playgrounders who now have a pony avatar.
Do you mean back to George Takeï?
This is a super huge deal for those of us who are bi. And i concur with Musashi there are no logic behind this.Que tous les anciens dieux et les nouveaux protègent la France.

*Is a pony fan*
*Is pretty sure I've never been annoying to you about it*
Just sayin'.
Anyway, on topic:
I think it's a banner? But you are of course free to simply reproduce it using just letters if you'd find that easier.
I think this is the most likely one. No idea why people would think this though.
This one can actually be kind of true! Precise sexuality may fluctuate with mood, so at one point you're all about sexin' the mens, and then another you're all about sexin' the womens!
Well, it might not fluctuate quite that drastically, but you get the point.
Anyway, this one, while stupid, doesn't bother me as much as the others.
Yeah, sadly I think this is a common enough misconception (Not actually common, but common enough).

it really doesn't help that a lot of people claim to be bisexual that aren't.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
Yeah, I don't get the problems with bisexuality either.
I do have trouble sometimes believing that anyone could be attracted to guys - yes, including women. The male body is just so ridiculous.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
Argleargle why can I never stick to anything?
I'm trying to develop a female voice, but practising is so much effort. I know that it takes months of regular practise to get a decent voice, but I just don't get round to doing it. Why can't I motivate myself?Quotebox

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
I am this way about hair color. If I accounted for all the hair colors I have been attracted to separately, I am pretty sure it would end up being every single one. Including unnatural ones. I would not be surprised if some people were the same way about other physical traits (like genitalia).

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
It's hard. Get into the routine of having a voice recorder and take five minutes while you're in traffic or something to practice. Just a little practice each day helps, even though it can be quite difficult to get into the routine. But yeah, motivation is really my problem too...

Shiny new thread smell. Yes, the smell is shiny. No, you can't question it.
So. Upcoming day trip to San Francisco, possibly the least heterosexual city in the Continental US, with my Non-heteronormative girlfriend.
Should be fun.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
For me, my first suspicion came sophomore year of high school. I was... dealing with some rough things related to sexuality at the time, and had just assumed I was straight (in part because of the massive bullying campaign launched at me by People Without Souls, PWS's for short) and in part because of the root cause of the PWS's mark of me as an easy target (namely that I had been sexually assaulted in middle school by another (male) student). Anyway, so I had stayed up really late the night before doing homework, and was kind of half dozing through spanish class when this guy came in to deliver a message. I muttered "Mmm... sexy," and then realized why I had said it and kind of wigged out for a while. It took me a few more years to come to terms of it (basically, a full year and a half after I hadn't seen any PWS's or taken the brunt of their comments).

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
I've known for a long time I wasn't really attracted to anyone, but that's when I learnt there was a word for it (2-3 years ago?) that I figured out I was asexual and not a random freak. That depressed me a little, though, y'know, with everyone else supposed to enjoy sex; the idea was a bit icky for me for whatever reason. Couldn't imagine falling in love with anyone and forming a healthy relationship where neither of us would get frustrated by the intercourse or lack thereof.
And that changed when my best friend and I became a couple. Then, in a big flamboyant cliche, the icky factor went away because he was the right person. During this year, I learnt there was also a word for this, and that I was just demisexual. That's just the concept of "not loving/ wanting to have sex with anyone but those you have strong emotional bonds with"... and it takes me time to forge said strong bond with anyone. For some reason, it's a hard-to-grasp concept for most people I know. And I didn't "come out" to anyone but my boyfriend because, somehow, trying to explain I'm not exactly heterosexual confuses people a lot.
It's weird when you think about it; little kids, and girls in particular, are generally taught you're only going to love and want to "have babies" with one person in your life (hello, every princess story ever?), and that it's good... and when they grow older, they learn the opposite, and that you're a freak of nature if you have no libido to speak of.Originally Posted by on Dwarf Fortress succession gamesOriginally Posted by Dwarf Fortress 0.40.01 bugs

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
Fixed that for you. Though, to be fair, pretty much all currently known life forms have ridiculous bodies. Even quasi-life, like Bacteriophages. Just drink in that silly, silly moonlander goodness.
But, in other realms, you've reminded me of something.
Has it been brought up before how that one Japanese science guy who did all the deprogramming work of the group that was using brainwashing and nerve gas ended up finding a series of tones that stimulates breast growth which was then made into a ringtone?

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
I was eleven year old, I just learned that something called "sex" existed, and I remember clearly I thought: "Why would anyone want to have sex with girls when they can have sex with boys?" At that time, though, I didn't know about homosexuality and stuff, so I didn't really realize anything.
The first real realization was when I was around 16 year old. I was at the beach and I was strongly attracted to many of the boys there. This made clear that the doubts I had about myself were a reality. I kinda freaked out, and I even came out to my parents during a panic attack (I think they didn't understand what I told them, though... it was a confused rant).
Obviously, one thing is to figure out something, another thing is to accept it and stop trying to fight it. That came many years later.
ION: Funny thing happened to me yesterday.
SpoilerI was hanging out with some friends I don't really know much about (they are acquaintances of my best friend's girlfriend) when they started talking about a friend of theirs (which wasn't there, but I met him in an earlier occasion) and how they think he is gay. Then they ask me, out of the blue, how do I recognize if someone is gay. Apparently, all of this people, which I barely know (I even have a struggle trying to remember their names), know that I'm gay.
It kinda startled me, because I'm used to behave differently when I am with people I'm out to... But I think this is what being out means, right? That you should have only one "face", because people might already know you're gay in the same way they might know you have greenish eyes, and they'll treat you the same way as "before", simply because there's no "before"!
So, I think I'm happy about this. Flabbergasted, but happy. Happily flabbergasted.Last edited by Anethiel; 2011-09-11 at 05:46 AM.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Sixteen!
I've had on and off thoughts all the way up through puberty that maybe I would have made a better girl than guy, and even before that I got on with girls way better than with guys. I didn't really think much of it until a few years ago, though. There's a little story attached.
My (prepubescent) little brother has long hair and is highly androgynous. For one reason or another - I forget why, I suspect mostly just for the lulz - we were trying to get him to dress up as a girl and see how convincing he was, just in the privacy of our house. He was reluctant, being at that "ew, girls" stage of development, and I ended up saying that if he did, I would as well. Once I was wearing my sister's clothes, I realised that it actually felt really comfortable.Quotebox
