Gretalus smiles tightly at Moira's questions.

"The current situation? With you out of the picture?" He shrugs. "I cannot give you exact figures, but I doubt that it would endure longer than a few weeks. Which is fortunate, as the caravan will take you away from here for approximately two and a half." He nods in thanks to both Falthor and Haken, smiling slightly - and apparently genuinely at Falthor's curiosity towards the contents of the envelope.

"I believe the pay will be at least as good as that of this job, albeit delivered in a slightly different manner. Those envelopes contain authorisation to access a certain amount of the House's resources as exchange for your services last night. It is the least we can do."

((Everybody gain 9,000 gp worth of magical items. And yes, this can be used to enhance your current gear with enchantments. Use pfsrd for pricing - just make sure to post your lists on the OOC. Have fun ))

"Well then, I am ready to leave. Thank you for the gift, it will certainly be nice to know my armor can protect me from even magic now."

Haken goes off with a new demeanor, radiating a cold, dark power. This power is not merciful, you can tell he plans on finishing off any future attackers. In a few minutes, he gathers his gear from his room and returns ready to leave.

When she opened the envelope, she found 2 scrolls and 1 orb.
The first scroll was a letter from her father. As befitting a father, he was proud of her. As a proper mage, his response was cryptic and short. You are not alone in your struggles...
The second scroll unnerved her greatly. Part of herself was excited, which really added to her worry. It seemed blank at first, but filled with strange instructions as she focused on it. A ritual?

"I ... accept. The House that nurtured us must be preserved. " She was agitated and filled with questions. Still more than 2 weeks of light activity would give her time to sort any questions.

Archetype. Never forget the spark. Nightbane briefly showed signs of agitation, as it circled from shadow to shadow. Were not for its stealthy nature, it would surely draw attention to itself.

"I think I'm gonna go get my bow consecrated and see if I can get the rest of the money in cash or in credit." he says smiling as he thinks of all the feinds he was going to slay. Then he notices Moira's strange look. He doesn't say anything, but remembers to ask her about that later. "Well you can definitely count me in for this new job." he said to Gretalus.

I will use this money well, i feel i could be more adequately equipped. So where are the attackers from yesterday? i prepared a spell today to make them tell us what was happening? Damien says as he looks throughout his share of money, and conjures a small bat, who instantly flies to his shoulder.

"That's a good question. What can you tell us about the potential dangers we might face?"

Gretalus nods in acknowledgement at the group's statements, then inclines his head towards Haken.

"A fine question, and one that I can readily answer. The most I can expect you to face would be bandits and possibly a few creatures of the wastelands - although both is unlikely. Bandits drive away those creatures that can cause harm to their...profits." He pronounces the last word with an almost tangible distaste.

"Wildlife is likely to be somewhat enhanced by the nature of Hell - we don't quite understand how it happens, but the power of the fiends seems to permeate even through the Border protections. Even then however, they should be no match for yourselves." He chuckles, almost as if to himself. "If mere bandits can drive them away, I'm sure you can too."

"The more likely problem will be bandits. There are some reasonably powerful groups out there, but they have to be to survive the wastelands. Most of them have at least one spellcaster, the nastier ones have multiple, and a good number of thugs and brigands to do the majority of the dirty work. The latter you can leave to the Skybolt mercenaries that normally guard the caravans. You're being sent along to deal with the leadership and any mages. Specialised security consultants, you might say." He chuckles again, then turns to address Damien.

"Whilst I appreciate your willingness to help young mage, the bodies of the two who died last night were utterly destroyed in those deaths. The first burnt out by an attempted suicide trap that one of you stopped, the second annihilated by Captain Amel. And the last assassin...he is with the Inquisition now. Anything they find...they will act upon to the best of their ability.

"The caravan leaves tomorrow morning. If you accept the job, we will provide accommodation for the night as well as mounts for the journey itself. Is there anything more?"

"Just get them out of sword range and it will be easy" She said while she looked somewhat nervous of the half-orc's greatsword. Confident aren't we?

"Have in mind Damien that any smart group of bandits would go first for the integrity of the caravan, then for it's passengers. Do we know to which bandit territory we will be "trespassing" and if we have any experienced tracker in our disposal in case the caravan's normal route is ... blocked?" Her headache left her blank, unable to think of other questions. Or maybe that was something else, eager to continue without hesitation...

"I'm afraid we cannot help you there - mainly as we are not even sure if you will in fact be passing through a bandit controlled area. The bands come and go, fighting amongst themselves and the wasteland itself." Gretalus explains. "As to the matter of a blocked route, the only possibility of that is by bandits. And in that case I'm afraid you will be forced to fight them. No caravan, however adventurous, will risk leaving the Roads of White.

"I will inform Grumio, the caravan master, that you have accepted our offer." He says lastly, his right hand coming up to grasp the amulet at his neck. "Unless there is anything else?"

"There is nothing else. Besides, if need be I can track well enough to get us back at least. We should probably figure out our basic positions ahead of time. Are we going to be riding or on foot along side the caravan?" Haken replies. He gives off the false appearance of a military man, his ancestry is showing a little bit in that he almost seems looking for a fight,

But that emotion passes, and he's returned to logic and patience.

Bare in mind i am a priest, if anything specific is required, i could be a large help. and i believe it would be best if those of you who are warriors created a perimeter around the caravan, and those of us who are ranged, support, or otherwise not a up-close fighter stay right by the caravan, ready to help at any point. Damien says, looking at Haken as his spark of military like conduct has sparked a part of Damiens' mind into function.

Gretalus nods sharply at you all. "Well then, I think I can leave you to plan at your leisure. You are free to use these quarters again tonight, or if you prefer we can arrange accommodation in one of the establishments within the city sympathetic us. They will ensure they you are taken care of and that nothing...untoward...occurs during your stay. The choice is yours. If you wish to leave, talk to the page in the corridor and he will give you directions. He you can trust, my word on it." He smiles slightly, and sighs the sigh of a much older man. "I hope that we meet again soon, and under circumstances that do not require all this trickery. Luck to your ventures."

He whispers something and vanishes, his form snapping out of existence like a soap bubble pierced by the breeze. You are left to make what plans you will and decide on the location where you will spend the night.

    Your fear"
She was laying on a barren field, full of corpses. A battlefield...
Trembling, she rose. The buzzing of flies and the smell of rot nearly overwhelmed her. The scenery, disgusting without peer. She put her back next to a tree, trying not to scream. Not to trip over the scattered bodies...
    "You can't escape us!"
Suddenly a way opened. A dark ebony road in stark contrast of the bloody battlefield.
Her heard ached. She was starting to bleed from the mouth and nose. As she walked the path, her feet turned heavier and heavier. She felt she was chased by the corpses themselves. Their faces grimaced. Unspoken curses. Silent screams.
    But she continued nevertheless.
    We are always watching you...
She fell... And stood up. The same scene countless times. As if some formless force was attacking her, wounds and bruises started appearing on her. And more, multiplying. Still she put her mind, hoping for all of this to end.
    Everything is ours.
A female form appeared in front of her. Ebony as the road. Flawless. Smooth as polished marble. It looked her. And a voice echoed.
"You humans are weak. But you want to live, even if you are wounded...or tortured. You feel the pain. Why don't they taste the pain, too?"

A cool, clean breath of air surrounded her. Then oblivion...

    Moira

    Spoiler
    Show
Still asleep, blackness swirls around her mind. Eternity and balance dance across her dreaming thoughts, weaving dreams of shadow and nightmares of darkness. And out of all of it a melded voice of five rises.

    "The path opens before you."

    "You see."

    "You know."

    "But you do not understand."

"Do not fear, for your Truth shall be released in time."

    "But your awakening brought attention."

"Show Darkness the Truth of your Shadow."

Cool umbral light surrounds her, Shadow's Queen shining at its heart like a miniature grey sun around her neck. And around her, the shadows thicken, drawing a web of not-light to ward against the intrusions of Darkness and Light.

And far away, in a pocket of shale hidden effortlessly in the unholy melding of three planes, four intelligences - each so old as to go beyond the meaning of the word age - look on. And through their servant, they speak once more.

"They shall learn anew to fear us. Through you."

    "Our Queen."

Moira jerks upright in her bed. The timepiece on the wall of the room shows that it is 'morning'. And just about time to go get up. Through the wall, she hears the beginnings of Falthor's melody.

    Falthor

Your night is peaceful, but when you awake you remember the broken fragments of a dream alike to that which led you here. You scrabble through the shards of memory, piecing together a message to the lilting song of your violin.

"You have done well, our servant."

"But more work is to come."

"Eternity rises, the souls of so many crying out for a settling of accounts."

    "You shall give them that."

"We wove the path beneath your feet. But we can do so no longer."

"Things are in motion. Things that no mortal can understand. But that which is wrong, you can stop. You must stop. For if you do not, Light will fail. And all Creation will shatter in the failing.

((Also, if you're doing the dance to match that vid I think I need another preform check ))

Haken finds the the servant girls are quite willing dance with one of the valorous members of the group who saved their master. And they're quite good at it too. The girl thanks you for the dance after you finish, and then seems to remember herself and rushes off mumbling something about chores.

You're not fully sure about human anatomy, but you're pretty certain that that blush went quite a bit further than just the face.

((You are, to not put to fine a point on it, heroes to those within the House. So, yeah ))

Moira is clearly unnerved by the experience, her strength already gone from the demands of the ritual, her living quarters still in a mess. While her body was weak, her eyes hinted on a stronger self, her motions of a more relaxed and renewed person. Dark sigils of power were imprinted on her right hand and arm, swiftly covered by clothing and the powers of her fundamentals.

"You are the lucky one. Come in." She smiled to him, the answer in common, while opening discreetly the door. She then proceeded to quickly refresh herself after serving him water.
"I had a ... stranger experience. I hope for good news." She replied in shadowspeak, with hope, despite her condition.
Nightbane is still, as always at her side, silently greeting the shadow brother before plunging itself in its usual vigil.

Falthor chuckles at her joke and drinks his water. He listens as she speaks, saying nothing. Even after her apology he is silent. He stares at the floor and says, "Should we tell the others about our little secret? This could very well affect them, and not in an 'oops it slipped my mind' kind of way. They have no idea what they are getting into travelling with us. Hell we dont even know what were getting into. You were born into this, and I sold my soul to forces we can never truely understand." He shifts his gaze to her finally, with a smile on his face. "Still, bonded through trauma and all that. You and I have been through alot and I wouldnt change that for anything. Hopefully the others will feel the same eventually."

She thinks of his proposition before she answers.
"A good thought, Falthor but not yet. This is not a matter of trust but of timing. We are forced to be together by Lord Callista at this moment, whatever our ... other orders and goals might be. We don't have a choice on this matter no matter how elegant his request was. Adding a second burden to them would have unpredictable results. When this distraction is over and things calm down, then, yes we will explain everything to them. They are capable allies after all."

She paused then added "Having said that, my nature was revealed on the concert, at least to the discerning eye. Feel free to explain them as truthfully as you intend to if they ask or suspect something, as will I. They have to meet Nightbane after all, so explanations might come earlier, if they care enough."

As she said that, she was packing her items. So many loose ends. I am calm and rational now but what will happen when I am stressed? The ritual has helped me tap on that power but will it be enough?
