    Default [ABF] Damage reduction over the base damage or the final?

    Ok this is a bit of a complex question and I am not really sure if I can explain it well in text; but I will try.

    What is better a 10 point damage reduction over the base damage or a 30 damage reduction on the final damage? In the system I am playing (Anima Beyond Fantasy) damage is calculated as percentage of the base damage of the attack, said percentage is calculated by comparing an attack roll with a defence roll and using the difference between them as a percentage, so an attack can deal from 10% of the base damage to 200% and higher.

    Therefore my question is what is better reducing the base damage of the attack prior to the actual damage calculation (so if an attack is base damage 100 with this defence it would be actually 90 for example) or getting a 30 point reduction in damage after the damage is calculated (so in the same vein an attack whith 100 point damage base dealing 100% of its damage it would be 70). Now I now that at a first glance the 30 point reduction seems better; but I have the nagging feeling that as base damage increases the 10 point reduction would be better)

    I hope I am making sense...

    Well, lets see. I have no idea what kind of damage is normal, so I'm just pulling numbers from thin air.

    10 reduced from base
    100 base damage (90 damage), 50% total: 45 damage taken
    100 base damage (90 damage), 100% total: 90 damage taken
    100 base damage (90 damage), 150% total: 135 damage taken
    100 base damage (90 damage), 200% total: 180 damage taken
    100 base damage (90 damage), 250% total: 225 damage taken
    100 base damage (90 damage), 300% total: 270 damage taken
    100 base damage (90 damage), 350% total: 315 damage taken

    30 reduced from total:
    100 base damage, 50% (50 damage total): 20 damage taken
    100 base damage, 100% (100 damage total) : 70 damage taken
    100 base damage, 150% (150 damage total): 120 damage taken
    100 base damage, 200% (200 damage total): 170 damage taken
    100 base damage, 250% (250 damage total): 220 damage taken
    100 base damage, 300% (300 damage total): 270 damage taken
    100 base damage, 350% (350 damage total): 320 damage taken

    So, if the damage is less then 300%, the 30 reduction from the total is better. If the damage is more then 300%, then the 10 reduction from the base is better.

    Assuming I understood how damage and its reduction works.

    A 100 damage is actually a bit high as a base damage, I just choose it because I find it much easier to work this calculations with round numbers.

    Jeraa's conclusion is true in general though.

    For a base damage of B and a multiplier of x, the final damage D in the first case (10 DR from base) is given by:
    D = (B-10)x = Bx-10x

    While for the second case (30 DR from total) is given by:
    D = Bx-30

    So for the first case to be better would require
    Bx-10x < Bx-30
    (-10x) < (-30)
    x > 3 = 300%.
