Looking for a system
Mostly to assuage the tactics portion of my brain -- I'm having a hard time finding something PvP similar to Erfworld or Civilization, in P&P form. Any suggestions? I'm not the most up on all the systems out there. :P

Re: Looking for a system
Warhammer is more about tactics and combat, Civ & Erf both have a strrong component of resource management, logistics and strategy about them. While I'm sure a P&P equivalent exists, I can't for the life of me think of one at this moment. I'll get back to this if I remember a good one.

Re: Looking for a system
We occasionally joked that someone should combine Risk with Settlers. Get yourself one game of risk and four games of settlers and go at it.
You can only get resources from hexes controlled by your Risk units, but you also need to pay for new units with resources from your hexes.

Well, at the risk of invoking Captain Obvious ... Civilization was a P&P game before it was a computer game.
You can call me Draz.

Re: Looking for a system
The 1979 Dune board game is like Risk while having resource management and tactical and strategic play. You can't buy it anymore, but you can download all the rules and the map online. It is really tied into the Dune series of novels, particularly the first three, which is a good thing cause those are amazing books. That's my suggestion anyways. It's a board game, so its obviously not as deep as an RPG or computer game, but it has a staggering amount of depth, especially when played with several players.
Also, this might be better received on Gaming (Other).Perfectly sane, for a given definiton of sanity.

Re: Looking for a system
If you want a Dune-like board game, Rex: Final Days of an Empire does a fair job of reimplementing the Dune rules.
That said, the OP stated he was looking for a P&P RPG.

@Cute_Riolu: If Reign isn't what you're looking for, you may also want to check out Burning Empires or possibly even Exalted - though it has a lot of other baggage.-
