"Your Angel of Banter Awaits." ThePhantasm Presents Random Banter #179
Hey, a new banter thread! Enjoy!
The Previous Random Banter can be found here:
Amiel's Appeasingly Appropriate Arbitrary Amusement (Random Banter): No.CLXXVIII #178
The Not-So-Random Rules of Random Banter:
Spoiler1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.
2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.
4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.
12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.
13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.
14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.
15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

A new thread!
Excellent...
Umm... I had something wise and insightful, and also relevant to say, but I forgot, so I'll just leave you with this to ponder over:

Re: "Your Angel of Banter Awaits." ThePhantasm Presents Random Banter #179
Reposting this so those that care don't miss it.
So, today, at 3:00 in the morning, I quit my job. I couldn't take the crap any more. The lying, just to get me to work harder then I felt safe working, the stupid ranting Truther guy, the mentally handicaped guy that drooled on me, the african guy that spends almost all his time on the phone, and doesn't speak a single word of english, at all.
So yha. Quit my job. Some funny ness to this. I got home, and just as I go to open the door, I remembered my keys where in my other jacket. Which where inside the house. So I walked around town at night for like, two hours. During it I encountered someone from highschool that was ok, and we talked a bit. Was kinda fun.
Now I guess I gotta find a new job. Hrm. Where to work...
As an aside, thanks for the answer about kilts Phantasm!Last edited by LaZodiac; 2012-07-11 at 09:00 AM.

Re: "Your Angel of Banter Awaits." ThePhantasm Presents Random Banter #179
Ahem.
*BOOGIE!*
This banter has been blessed.
That sentence roughly translates to '[pronoun]'ll do [whatever it is] [in a time after this that has no specified time limit]'.
So 'e'll do 'er dreckly can just as easily mean 'they'll do the dishes just as soon as they've finished washing the car' or 'she'll come back from shopping after she's visited her grandmother and her cousins out Cambourne way'.
Or any other sentence that can fit into it.
It's all pure context, although dreckly is 'officially' defined as being 'in a few moments to a few hours' (dialect form of 'directly'), but in reality can be anything.
My Grandda once said he'd do something 'dreckly', but ended up doing it a few weeks later.
True.
There are studies of censuses and things that trace name popularity and prove that there are waves of names.
They all thought it was a girl, until it was a boy?
Not really. If you break it down it just means 'village'/'house'/'settlement' of Elyan/Elian. the 'v' being there to stop long vowels slurring.
Granted it's a little more common as a surname, but I can still recall four or so Trevelyans off the top of my head.
Must. Resist. Temptation. To hunt down. Possible. Names.
Me, I have a Viking name. Well, to be specific it's Old Norse.
To be super specific my name origins go: Ancient Greek/Irish, French, Old Norse.
So, Michael then?
Or is it John? Perhaps James. Doubt it'd be Richard.
Bathatar!
Squid bones are lies.

I would advise you all to remember my story of the three brothers. That's pretty much what I have to say about jobs.
Though, honestly, as much as I never thought the day would come, I'm thinking about getting a job. Every time I've been to the store lately I've had to bag my own groceries. I'm getting good at it and figure I might as well get paid.
Work is what you do for yourself. Toil is what you do for someone else.

No, there are 100 types of people in the world, those that understand binary, those that don't and those that understand those who speak binary, also known as programmers.
Well, you are not doing the activities for yourself, but for someone else, and you get compensated for that. There is a difference between money working for you and working for someone else for money. The Iron Avatarist Crypt of Fame - Exorcising photobucket from the historic archives of the forum.

You can't believe something when it benefits you and not when it doesn't. Have some backbone.
That's a terrible philosophy.
Eh, I suppose. Whatever I plan on do for a living, if it can called a living, involves me being my own boss in some form or another. And it's not like you can't make the choice to not work. It's just not usually a good one.

Re: "Your Angel of Banter Awaits." ThePhantasm Presents Random Banter #179
There is a mythical 100 type, those that understand those that understand those that speak in binary, but many say they are truly far in between, or a mythical creature, like unicorns.
You are working FOR someone else, at the "equivalent" exchange of money paid for that work made for someone else. And I find it more fulfilling to help someone else instead of work for them, there are several ways to go about it, and some of them are profitable without a cost to the one you are helping.
Well, you can pay someone to pay someone else to pay someone to work, this is normally called investing in a fund or a trust. The Iron Avatarist Crypt of Fame - Exorcising photobucket from the historic archives of the forum.

Yes, but if you are working because you want to to work, you are working for yourself. The only people toiling are wage slaves, actual slaves, and those who would truthfully be unemployed.
And I find it more fulfilling to help someone else instead of work for them, there are several ways to go about it, and some of them are profitable without a cost to the one you are helping.
Well, you can pay someone to pay someone else to pay someone to work, this is normally called investing in a fund or a trust.

Re: "Your Angel of Banter Awaits." ThePhantasm Presents Random Banter #179
The work you are performing, while it benefits you due to the legal obligations of a binding contract that forces the person you are working for to pay you, is not FOR you but for someone else, you do get a remunerated for it.
I didn't say it was the most fulfilling or that you are wrong, hence the "I find it"
