Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
What is that that's exploded out of Haley's arrow? Just smoke? Some kind of darkness spell? I'm a little unclear on what exactly is happening here.

Am I imagining the Avengers reference, or is that really there?

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
It's possible that Tarquin arranged for Sabine's summon/calling for Nales' protection, which would make sense, as Nale isn't high enough level to do it himself, hence his knowledge of her qualities, both skills or otherwise.
Interesting strip all the same, can't wait to see it play out.Last edited by One Step Two; 2012-07-17 at 10:21 AM.

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
For once, Tarquin doesn't see it coming! Oh, I am looking forward to seeing this...
EDIT: I didn't even see that skinny panel near the bottom on the first read-through. Very cool!Last edited by Timeless Error; 2012-07-17 at 10:26 AM.

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
Awesome!
Also i dont think the giant intended the avengers reference as he probably got the idea when he was on a train or something.
Still, its a very appreciable strip.

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
Yes! I totally called it was the staff making the undead.
Oh right, the comic. That was pretty awesome too.
Actually, this is a weird thing to pick up on, but I liked the shading on Roy and Haley showing they were kind of in darkness relative to the rest of the hallway, it gave their ambush a more realistic feeling.

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
Very glad about the new one.
I see the Avenger's reference, too. Intentional or not, I dunno, but it is just as awesome.
Also, seems Malack has a Staff of Create Undead. That explains the debate on why he'd prepared it.
Did anyone else see a similarity between Panel 3 in the new one (Nale's line) and the last panel here? http://http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0206.html Probably a coincidence, though.
If only V was still there, the trap could've been Explosive RunesI'd say it is probably a smoke cloud, maybe poison gas?

Awesome! Looking forward to seeing how this ambush plays out.

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
Yeah, it's awesome to see two magnificent commanders battling it out.
The question is, did Roy read Tarquin's book?

P.S. Tarquin knows about booby traps, but does he have great cleavage?

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
What do you mean by "Avenger" reference? If it is about the arrow, D&D has many arrow that can be modified to do certain thing (silver for demons and smokes (or some magic thingy) for a warlord (Monk Multiclass?)).
I hope losing one mummy in a pit will either aid them (V ruining Order's plan) or deter them (kaboom! traps).Badly drawn helmet avatar drawn by me.

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
Aha, so it was the staff theory. I wonder what the smokescreen is for...
(Assuming that I interpreted the comic correctly.)
And I agree with Anarion, the shading is a really nice touch.Last edited by Chessgeek; 2012-07-17 at 10:45 AM.

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
How exactly would that sort of detection even work?
The rest of his skills, 'just that good' sure, but detecting an ambush from such a distance?Last edited by Icedaemon; 2012-07-17 at 10:49 AM.
Brewing a new setting (3.5 ed D&D). The setting is complete and ready to play.
Indeed, here is the recruitment thread for the first run.
The above post was probably snide, snippy, tongue in cheek and/or opinionated. Consult your sense of humour before vexation. If still vexed, attempt to cease giving a damn. Thank you for reading this public service bulletin.

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
You're surprised? He complimented Haley on her breasts immediately after learning she was involved with his son, why would he not have sex with his other son's girlfiend who considers them to be in an (sexually, but not in terms of killing) open relationship?
Yeah, who ever would suggest that something that looks sort of like a movie or comic book is a reference to that movie or comic book?
I hope losing one mummy in a pit will either aid them (V ruining Order's plan) or deter them (kaboom! traps).
...why are you cheering for the Linear Guild, now?Spoiler"The really unforgivable acts are committed by calm men in beautiful green silk rooms, who deal death wholesale, by the shipload, without lust, or anger, or desire, or any redeeming emotion to excuse them but cold fear of some pretended future. But the crimes they hope to prevent in the future are imaginary. The ones they commit in the present--they are real." --Aral Vorkosigan

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
Awesome comic Rich,
By the way, in panel 7 it looks like Tarquin is overrunning Sabine or pushing her out of the way in some sort. What strikes me is that Sabine is to the left of Tarquin and he's pushing her aside with his right hand.Argg... I am a pirate

Re: OOTS #858 - The Discussion Thread
Tarquin in the 6th panel shows us how effective Elan could be with a higher INT score and more refined genre savvy. "Trap. I can just feel it."
And here's hoping that the next strip will be a little sooner than three weeks. No pressure though, your Giantliness. You're the boss and all.
