OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase V

Thanks for constructive critique Crimmy . Since I begun drawing OOTS-style fanart I thought their fingers ends with square endings, but as I looked closer they are indeed round. The only exception I found is Haley's hair, so I left my characters hair like that too -I like it more. I've fixed the line width -it looks much better now, and I've coloured all the lines. Hands, legs and mouths look better black in my opinion. I've changed pictures in previous thread. Also, under spoiler is different version of Twilight with all coloured lines, but those red lips remind me Joker's make-up .

Well, what I meant with "This goes for line color as well, don't make colored outlines if you already use black outlines, or vice versa." was outlines only, though now that I look back on it, it does seem like I mean every single line.

Not sure if the coat really works, even though it's a necessary part of the character. 120x120 is painful, sometimes.

I like the coated one. At most, I'd expand the shoulder-to-forearm section of the coat (her left side) just a bit (I understand that cartooniness is your trademark). Once again, for me, the 120x120 with coat looks amazing.

Hmm, I like it, but it somehow appears a bit stiff. Perhaps you should try to relax their limbs a bit. I mean, the dog looks a bit like he's walking on peg-legs with his legs stretched out like that (especially the front ones). And is she trying to shove away the dog or embrace it? Because right now, she kind of looks like she's trying to do both...

I suggest you relax the dog's front legs a bit and in return move its paws up on her, so it's hanging from/pushing against her shoulders rather than standing on her tummy. And you could either try and lean her more forward if she's supposed to embrace it, or relax her arms so she pushes at the dogs front rather than sides if she's supposed to try and shove it away.

One problem as I see it is that I can't quite tell what details actually cast those shadows. Take her skirt, for example. The light source seems to be straight ahead of her judging from most other shadows, but pretty much half of her skirt is shaded, which requires some pretty strange cuts to work. And that shadow spike on her stomach requires her shirt to be rather crumpled to appear as well.

And her cape. I can't quite figure out what to do with that shadow to start with...

Look, I'm sorry if I sound harsh, because it isn't bad per se, but I the point of shadows should mainly be to highlight details which won't otherwise be visible, usually related to curvature and depth, and shading for shadings sake is a bit of an empty phrase...

Those are pretty awesome, Crimmy. I especially like the fur. It's very detailed, and just very well done overall. Also, you pulled off the muzzle rather well too. (I despise trying to draw muzzles. ) I think I might have to use this as a reference for the ears and legs if a certain friend ever wants a wolf-person avi again.

And now I've done something rather different. I decided that the height difference between mine and a friend's characters needed to be illustrated, so I drew this.



I think it came out pretty good, but I found that oots style doen't lend itself well to showing off height difference. It was interesting to experiment with it, though, and I enjoy the results.

It's doubly funny because Dena there is actually a drow as well, but from a different setting where elves in general are much taller. Makes for an interesting effect with these two.

Welcome back, and I must say that Marty looks really good. If anything either his head should be a bit larger. Mabye make that line in his hair a bit thinner?

Can't believe how far back that seems, but yeah, that's probably right. It's been a hectic few years with school and such, but I'm glad I can now relax and return to this.

I agree with you about the improvements, but in my defense, the head did look the right size before I added the several layers of clothing. Saying that, head sizes, and hair styles, have never been my forte, so I'll definitely take your ideas onboard.

Also, just been looking back at your work, and I've got to say, I've been blown away at the quality of it all. Are you still using Paint to draw them, and are they drawn freehand?
