Default .avi to iTunes (.mp4) converter needed.

I need a free .avi to .mp4 converter, but all the ones I can find either watermark the video or limit the conversion to three minutes unless you buy a license. Does anyone know of a way or app that I can use to convert .avi files and put them in iTunes?

You could try Vitual Dub, it's free but I haven't used it in years.

SUPER media converter is free, handles just about every format, and has no limits, and has all the codecs already built in.
I have my own TV show featuring local musicians performing live. YouTube page with full episodes and outtake clips here.
I also have another YouTube page with local live music clips I've filmed on my own.
Then there is my gaming YouTube page with Kerbal Space Program, Minecraft, and others.
Finally, I stream on Twitch, mostly Kerbal Space Program and Minecraft.

I used one called "Videora iPod Converter" back in 2006. It was free. You might be able to find it if you do a search. But the ones above are probably more recent.

    What Operating System?

Older versions of QuickTime can transcode from AVI to MPEG-4. Also, I'm pretty sure Handbrake can do it. Outside of that... I believe VLC has the capability to change file formats, though I'm not sure if it's simply changing the container, or if it's actually transcoding the file into an H.264 stream.

Yeah I realized I can actually just share it into iTunes from quicktime so it all worked out.

Thanks. I'm going to check this out just cause it seems like a useful program to have.

EDIT: Dammit, that one was almost identical to the first two I tried, in that it wanted me to register a license. Foiled again! Oh well. Thanks anyway though.

If the license is free, what's the big deal about registering?

Quality loss. YouTube audio is typically 128kbps, and you can't get higher than 480p in most cases, and even if you do get the 1080p copy of the file, you'll still get lots of compression artifacts. YouTube = Bad Bad Bad for quality.

+ Handbrake. The device presets (top right icon to toggle through the devices) work fine to view the converted videos on the Apple products. It's works well:

If you have an ipad, airvideo app can do the job as well. It's basically an app which lets you stream media from your PC to your ios device, but also convert them to a format suitable for storing on your phone.
