The other alternatives are easy enough and save some potential confusion about when exactly you're suppossed to get PMs about it:
Post all the role messages in the thread (Which we're not doing because of the Paranoia varient)
Make the messages unique to everyone so no one can use that anyway.

In Paranoia you only know five things about the game:
1. There's daytime
2. There's nighttime
3. There are villagers
4. There are werewolves
5. It's all over when the wolves match numbers or outnumber or the deaths stop.

Paranoia is when you aren't told how many werewolves there will be, you aren't told what roles will be brought into play, and aren't told a player's role when they die, which means you don't know how many from each team are remaining.

In other words, mysteriously fun!

I think that everyone needs to get a PM jsut to make sure they knwo they weren't passed up for the game. Example say villagers dont get PMs and XYZ is a villager.. he may come and post... Am I in the game because I havent gotten a PM yet. Just my thoughts

I think it's fair to say by now if your name was on the list of players and you never got a PM that you are a villager.
