Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Just let me know if you need any pointers. On that note, everyone should now have a message with comments on their creatures.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Hrmmm, have noticed a distinct disinterest in this month's contest compared to the last. By this point in the last contest we already had 15 entries. Tougher theme perhaps?

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Very much so, yes. That, and I'm in more of a PrC mood than a monster mood.
....which gives me a horrible, awful, wonderful idea. Pardon me for ripping you off, VT, but I have a contest to run.Last edited by Fax Celestis; 2007-01-14 at 05:26 PM.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Just posted my critter for Fimbulwinter. My first homebrew monster creation, so do please be gentle. ;) I wanted something I could use as an enemy in a side adventure, and when I saw this theme my imagination ran away with me.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Athenodorus - Love your concept. My only critique right now is in how you formatted your ability description - the Summon swarm ability should be listed seperately from the quench flame. Also I think you need a caster level for the swarm ability.
The immolation should probably allow some sort of save, otherwise it's kinda tough for the CR.
Just my two cents. Feel free to critique my creation as well.GENERATION 18. The first time you see this, copy it into your sig and add 1 to the generation. social experiment.

Just sent you a message with some critiques, Athens

However, this does bring up something I missed in my initial critique, as the power needs a range. Matter Agitation's is 'Close', so I'd give it a range somewhere around that.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
I am still working on my creature, I just need to finish up the flavor text/description portion of the entry and I should be finished. It will probably require quite a bit of editting, though, as it is my first attempt at a homebrewed creature. I'm mostly concerned about the CR, I can't seem to figure out how it works.
"Playing D&D is a lot like having a venereal disease. Whenever I date a girl, there's always going to be that point in our relationship where I have to be up front and tell her that I play Dungeons & Dragons. And that will definitely have a lasting impact on how/if our relationship progresses."

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Well, I'm done mine. And personally, I just hope my idea wasn't already made by another source or close enough that somebody accuses me of ripping off someone else's idea. A slush-based elemental seems like it might have had similar concepts done but I swear I only looked through the MM 3.5 for inspiration.

18 powers left. I forgot psions had epic power progression, unlike wilders.
I need powers. Any suggestions?

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Y'know, I'm really not liking the fact that I've done a half-dozen or so edits so far. I really hope it doesn't wind up as me entirely changing key points that I'll never be happy with and won't be able to finish up before the deadline as someone proud of their idea.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Herald of the End, my first Homebrewed monster entry ever, is up. I will say right now that the CR I chose for it was almost entirely arbitrary, and it still feels unfinished. Please, be kind in your criticisms of me, as I am a harsh enough critic of myself.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
I wouldn't worry so much about it. I guess, in the end anyway (now that I have become less worried about my own creation), everything requires fine-tuning at some point. Besides, the background story behind your concept practically seems like it could win on its own. :)

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
I fear my creature's CR may be set to high. Crunching the numbers again, it seems more like a 6 or a 7. Anyone care to comment?

I'm usually terrible at estimating CRs but in case I actually have a fully functioning brain, I'd think it is already good where it is.

Actually, I haven't got a PM. Unless, of course, you are talking about having given advice, criticism, etc.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
It's funny that you should say that. I almost didn't finish it after reading your entry in particular, TheEscapist. Really great entries in general, everyone.
And MechaKingGhidra, I think that VT was referring to having now sent a PM to all the entrants with criticism and advice. Now that everyone has finally submitted their entries....Last edited by Bearofbadnews; 2007-01-21 at 06:34 AM.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
alright, my entry is finalized and ready to be judged after making corrections from VT's critque. Doesn't seem as if there are as many entrants this month as there were last month for the contest. Comments from anyone are still more than welcome

Hey! I got a vote!
*does a happy dance*
I voted for the Herald thingie. I just like Baator, and Baatezu, and other, lesser inhabitants of the plane.
Hey, who voted for me, anyway? Some psionics fan?Last edited by Khantalas; 2007-01-21 at 07:25 PM.

OK, I just want to bump this thread to have Vorpal bump the other thread. Poor us, not getting any new votes.
TheEscapist must be very happy, though.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Oh well. I'm sure the voting will pick up in a few days. It pretty much has to. Otherwise, the laws of probability will have failed us and it's the end of the world as we know it!

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Well, who cares? I wasn't going to win, anyway. Though admit it, psionics and cold don't go great together. Just not enough energy spells.
I am still curious as to who voted for me. At old times we could see who voted for whom.
