Wow. If I [REDACTED], that's basically all of the flavor and mechanics of the class, with the possibility of [DATA EXPUNGED].

Can I do a Zinc Saucier of this, to be posted after the reveal? I'm actually more excitied about doing that than cooking up a Shadowblade.

Also, Amph, congrats on your long run and awesome contents!

First-Time Cook checking in. Can I get a clarification on point-buy (which I've never used before)? When applying racial modifiers, do you apply them BEFORE or AFTER you've spent your points?

That is to say, if I play an Elf, do I spend my 6 points to take his DEX to 14 and then let the racial score adjust to 16, or do I start at base 10 (from racial +2) and spend 8 points to buy up to 16?

Buy points first, then apply racial mods when you are finished buying.

I was building, thinking this class wasn't so bad, when I saw it wasn't full BA. Amph, you monster.

Interesting round. (Mainly posting to track it easier), not sure if I will compete or not. I have about 4 different ideas but they are kind of muddled in my head.

Definitely got one build lined up, and second one is bubbling away in the cauldron. Less Masterchef, and more Eye of Newt, if I'm honest.

First time poster, short time lurker. Hoping to get in on this Iron Chef! Though I'm a little new to the concept of creating an entire build for a character (I have been playing D&D &PF for a year or so now and have yet to reach level 5 aside from one shots), I'm doing my best. :)

welcome! looking over prior contests is a big help, especially when it comes to figuring out the coding, which takes the bulk of actual build time

    Oh, you!

I'm enjoying this one, tbh. Problem is, using the class features in a way that any other class cannot do. And building one particular class, I ended up with a Zinc Saucier entry, it did what the Shadowblade did but better if I swapped the Shadowblade for other progression, hence my "djejrimsjajr" post earlier. I'm just hoping it doesn't seem tacked on.

And that BAB requirement in addition to that Average BAB progression is absolute murder, makes me winder exactly what they were smoking when they wrote it; I do know for a Fact that they used the playtest notes for the papers which had in big red indelible ink saying "GIVE IT FULL BAB!!!"

Full BAB and rogue Sudden Strike progression? What do you think this is, the Miniatures Handbook?

Seriously, my only problem is the times/day restrictions. I really hate relying on times/day abilities, because I never know if I'm going to run out of them, therefore I generally don't use them, however they are probably the single defining class feature of this class, so I don't dare not use them, or be crucified by lack of Use of Secret Ingredient.

Or CAdv (seeing how Ghost-faced Killer is in that book). Is there even a Full BAB/full SA class in the Miniatures Handbook? It's one of the few books that I don't own a (hard) copy of.

Oh wait, I was thinking Heroes of Battle... the Dread Commando was what I was thinking of...

Perhaps I should've said "What do you think this is, ToB? This is a melee class, it can't have nice things!"

skullclan hunter gives 3d6SA and has avg BA

that's the only one with sneak attack in there. none of the prcs have sudden strike, and the one with full BA (tactical soldier) has no SA.

I think what he meant was "what is this, the miniatures handbook?" in that these lackluster boilerplate class abilities from base classes (ninja in this case) are being passed off as new things one can get from a prestige class

and in case it's important to anyone's build:

the secret ingredient gives average BA, not full

    EDIT:

    ninja'ed. how appropriate.

it's easy to confuse those two books because of their weird formatting and that they both have those weird mass combat rules in them.

was my guess right about the minis handbook though?

I promise it gets easier. I've been in every contest since shadowdancer (except cryokineticist) and each time it's taken less time. last time, the coding (skills aside of course) took me about 30 minutes.

the thing that takes up the most time (for me) is saves and making sure they add up correctly. once you learn the formula (bad is 1/3 round down, good is 1/2+2 round down) you can look at your classes to see which saves they have as poor or good, make a quick note of them, and do numbers from memory and cut down a lot on opening up multiple books and/or tabs on the SRD to see what saves are what. BA is the same as saves, but since it's only one number, it's a little easier to avoid screwing it up.

    good luck with your dish!
