Re: Praise for the new forums
The colour scheme is still good ol' brown and white. Or something and white anyway. The spell checker makes sure you never make a misstake in your spelling, so that is useful. The searching looks easier as well.

Re: Praise for the new forums
I love the new layout, the new fetures, and mostly the quick reply window. I think that everything is smoother and easer to use. I have only one complaint, and it has nothing to do with the boards. I would like, in my capacity as Mayor of the Town, to thank the Moderators of this site for however much time and effort they put into this so that we could all have a better place to play. And Rich also, for continuing to make sure that his devoted fans have somewhere to talk about him behind his back...
Um, I mean to talk to him, and get a good response.
Thank you Giant in the Playground Staff for this!!If you want to know who your talking to...

Re: Praise for the new forums
I noticed that with my Firefox browser it takes a lot less time to open threads as it used to take before. I'm still learning new tricks, but I find it very very nice and usable. Thanks!

Re: Praise for the new forums
Well, aside from mutable display names and a few certain formatting tags, this appears to have everything the old forum has and much, much more. So that's a super-good-double-plus thing! :D
Of course, as far as the formatting goes, it appears there are plans to reinstate the formatting I like but not the ones I don't, so I like that. ;) (I'm certainly not gonna miss scrolling text and I couldn't miss glow anyway as that doesn't show up on Safari.)
I'm almost gonna do all my posting through the quick-reply box now. (Only forseeable exception is posts with heavy quote-editing.)
Speaking of quote editing: I'm glad you no longer have to put a board-link along with the author name. That allows for neatly-attributed quotes of off-board material without a useless link.
Ooh, another randomly good one. The shades smiley aren't 8) anymore. It is safe to use parenthesis!
Yeah. I'm liking this new forum! :DThe Future just ain’t what it used to be.

Yeah! Boards are back! They don't look all that different, really, which pleases me greatly. Nice, comfortable, sameness!

Re: Praise for the new forums
I'm really liking the "Go To First New Post" (click the box with the check mark beside the title) feature you can use in threads that have had new content added. It makes it much easier to pick up what you missed in a discussion, and could really make a Werewolf game go more smoothly.

Re: Praise for the new forums
Mortia brought this thread to my attention. I too would like to extend my thanks to the Staff for ensuring we can continue to enjoy the use of this site, as well as for removing the Town and SMBG from the post counter. Post counts should not matter, and there will now no longer be people posting there just to raise their count, and not to have fun, which is what those threads should be meant for. Thanks guys!

They are the awesome. Also high in my praise, subscribing to not just threads but forums! Wow. Though I am going to have to see how they work out.

Re: Praise for the new forums
The whole place is pretty cool. The layout is more familiar now (i.e. a PM system that seperates read from unread) compared to other forums I go to and it just... It looks better. It's been faster so far too.

Re: Praise for the new forums
Thanks and praise for the mods who worked so hard to ensure we wouldn't have to deal with server problems, and ensuring that we can now be equals in the Town; rather than judged by Post Count. You've also ensured that we can now have fun in the Town and in SMBG, rather than just going to raise our Post Count. Great job, Mods!

Re: Praise for the new forums
I find this a bit of a mixed blessing. While it does help with general posts where you just need to quick reference some of the recent posts while making a reply, I was using the first post of PbP threads for games I run to list some useful links. And, yes, that was easier than book marks (Command-Clicking them opens them up in new tabs right away; it's several steps quicker.)
Of course, now that it only shows the thirty last replies, I can't even just suck it up and scroll on down...
Hm. Maybe this should go in the complaint thread. ;)The Future just ain’t what it used to be.

Re: Praise for the new forums
On first brush, I like it. It has yet to annoy me.
I seem to have lost my warning from way back. Yay me.
I've been downgraded from Titan to Ogre. I wonder why that happened, given I never posted in the Town or Silly Message Board Games? Bye-bye, STR 43 and colossal goodness! :(
My PM mailbox had to be pruned, but that didn't matter much to me. I archived everything I cared about before the move.
I think I'll like the new features a lot.New Terminator movie = Awesome!

I like the way the screen goes grey when you click the 'Log Out' button. 'Tis cool.
And also that the time is displayed as GMT even when i'm not logged in. Huzzah for GMT!Last edited by fryer1; 2006-10-30 at 12:32 PM. Reason: 'looged' is now a word apparently

Re: Praise for the new forums
New Forum is beautiful in my opinion. Much more powerful too. My only suggestion if it's possible, and this is really nit-picky, is that when one logs on to the main GITP playground site (with they're cookies on of course) that they have a little post in the corner saying if there's a new PM, and possibly how many new posts there are.
I don't always come to forums, but I'm always on the main page and that would be helpful to me. However I know there's probably not that big of a demand for it. I just thought it would be nice, though I can also understand the need to keep the main site and the forum separate.
So never mind...I guess I'll just post to take up space then...and say nice new forum.I can't get no sleep.

I just noticed that double clicking on the notification icon for a forum with new posts will mark that forum as read. That's nice.

Quick Reply. Totally.
It also reminds me of a forum that I did stuff on as a younger child. Nostalgia FTW.

Re: Praise for the new forums
Is it just me or are people actually using the little thread icons more frequently now that there's a big, hard to miss radio button list instead of the tiny drop-down menu?
Yeah, I like that, so I figure it counts as praise. :DThe Future just ain’t what it used to be.

Re: Praise for the new forums
The PM's popping up is a brillent idea. It helps people with me actually notice when they have mail.
I salute you postal service.
