I've got 3 builds. The problem is the SI adds something to each, that nothing else can add what it does in the same manner. The problem is I could choose any other class than the SI, and it would be better in general.

Possibly, possibly not. I sort of expect that people will be at least thinking about doing something similar to what I did, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were similar.

Each time I lovingly crafted my first dish, poured time and effort into it to try and get it to work just so, and I spent what time I had left working on a second dish that just wouldn't leave my head. Both times, that second dish had less effort poured into it, and both times, that second dish placed high (Fourth and First). And both times, my cherished dish turned out to be less than exciting to the judges. So I feel your pain.

That said, I found a way to make at least one of my ideas work nicely, so I'll be cooking this time around.

Now I'm worried. Everyone is talking about messed up ideas and how terrible the SI is and all, yet I have 2 ideas I feel comfortable enough with to try out. Which makes me feel like somehow my thinking is all wrong and going to end in tragedy. Anyone else ever get that feeling? Anyone?

    I think I've thought of a build.

I start with {Redacted}, take the {Redacted} feat and the {Redacted} ACF, switch to {Double Secret Redacted}, use the {Redacted} racial bonus to qualify for {Redact after Reading}, and then I'm into ToT and can use ... well, maybe one of the class features a little.

    *Sigh*

    Back to the sketch pad.

    Shouldn't that give bonus points?

My character's name is [REDACTED] is your [REDACTED] too?

Incidentally what does ToT stand for? Seriously Thethird... ToT = Talon of Tiamat you dummie.

My idea is not messed at all, and I think that the Secret ingredient is pretty nice. I wouldn't have given it a second look where it not the Secret ingredient but I think I can make a nice pumpkin flavored cheese cake, with fluffy fillings and solid crunchy crust.

Oh... Oh my. I just thought of an impossibly cool idea. I'll have to wait until I get home before I can check books and make sure it works, but if it does....

By the way, an iron chef lightning round sounds like an awesome idea. Get five or six chefs and a panel of judges together, give them a secret ingredient, maybe a sous chef. At the end of the hour, each chef presents his or her build and the judging panel does a quick scoring on the spot.

It should be some sort of Live show, though. Maybe with screen capture, so we can see the builds in real-time.

Hm. Looking over my build again, it turns out I don't need quite so many levels of [REDACTED] as I thought. And the lower level requirement means that [REDACTED] isn't quite so legally dubious. But, it means I have to rewrite [REDACTED] levels. Fun.

Would that be a full build or a build stub?

And by build stub, I mean that you don't have to do the full 1-20 for it, and you get to make up the backstory and such while presenting it.

The judges would have to be chosen for being hardcore, though.

Actually, a webseries would not be remiss...

Full 1-20. Feats, skills, fancy main trick. The lot. The Backstory and such you can just verbally present. We're not going to make it too easy on them, but they don't have to worry about making it look pretty.

Don't forget that the judges are also the observers, who get to comment on what the chefs are doing.

Hm, I think that is an idea worth consideration and discussion in it's own thread. Do you want to start it, seeing as you had the original idea, or shall I?

this is not because your first idea is always bad (that doesn't make sense) it's usually because one's first instinct to enter a class wouldn't have made sense.

like for example: last round, I thought about using ninja to enter urban soul in order to enjoy its acrobatics ability, but then changed my mind when I found the labors I would need to undertake in order to qualify on time due to class skills ninja doesn't have.

I do agree about second builds tending to do better, it's the trend I've observed as well. not sure what to say about that.

I have the flavour, but the crunch is so... bleh. I can't even get more variety in without losing too much due to the feats I've invested in the build. Still, got a couple or three entries I like. Gonna make a toss up between them, got the time to make them all now I'm done for the year.

    I still hate spellcasting entries.

My first idea didn't even get as far as a 1-20 build before it was scrapped and replaced with my current build (which for a brief segment before re-reading pages [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] of [REDACTED] was nearly changed into a boring [REDACTED] from the more flavorful, but slightly less [REDACTED] [REDACTED]). Now I've got a nice 1-20 build (though I used [REDACTED], so it's more like 1-[REDACTED]). Now I just need to polish the table, write up the backstory that's been brewing in my head, and see if I can't borrow a nice image to spruce of the joint.

Really? I always do that. Unless the teacher actually specifies multiple drafts, I typically always go with the first one.
