Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Belkar's perfect world is very different from what it used to be...
I really think I might miss him when he's gone, and not just because of his punchlines.

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Thanks, Giant. Great strip as always
Also, I laughed pretty hard at the giant cowboy Elan singing "freedom"
EDIT: I'm kinda getting angry at Roy. He has this idea of Belkar and he just can't see past it. It was the same thing when Belkar freed the dinosaur at the arena or when Belkar told him about Durkon. Roy is a big jerk when it comes to Belkar. I know he has his reasons, but Belkar is slowly changing and Roy still thinks of him as a mass-murderer, lustful, egocentric jerk (which he actually was up until this whole arc)Last edited by Vinsfeld; 2013-05-25 at 08:34 PM.

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Interesting, Belkar's starting to seem to be moving more towards genuine reform (albeit a long way off. Certainly far too long for the little bit of time he has left) and less just faking it.

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
The really sad thing is that Lord Shojo probably would have wanted nothing to do with Belkar, even the new and improved Belkar. Belkar has built up this kind of ideal image of what Shojo was like based on what he knows about his political manipulations, even though he really didn't know him very well at all. The only creature in the world who will miss Belkar when he dies is Mister Scruffy.

"...I worry that modern gaming is gradually shrinking the wide spectrum of gameplay mechanics into a single narrow red bar with "KILL" written on it sideways. Exploration, navigation, puzzles, platforming, all gradually shrinking away until only one thing remains, being taken by the hand from room to room, moving on only when nothing remains alive in each one." - Yhatzee Crosshaw

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Oh gods. My heart.
Shojo is part of his perfect world, which is interesting. Makes sense, but not something which occurred.
And now, is Belkar turning tamer, for lack of a better world, while pretending he hasn't changed while pretending he's made a moral improvement? Dang. His brain'll be as split as Haley's during the aphasia.Spoiler: This signature is a historical relic from a long-ago time of regular forum activity.Aww man! Even all the witty self referencing sigs are gone now!

Don't worry, the whores are in the other room. But that was adorable, and it once again shows that Belkar's not quite faking it anymore.

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Ooooh.
So THAT's how it works.
All right. I'm glad to hear that Belkar doesn't crave death.
It surprised me that his was a separate dream, but hey, it makes perfect sense now, with Haley's explanation.
As for Belkar's dream... no surprise at all.
Poor little misunderstood psycho. :/

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Yeah, it's like how Actual-Nale would have probably ruined the dream wedding, and how Actual Order of the Stick would not be comfortable simply disregarding Tarquin, and how Actual Elan's Mom would not want to shackle herself down to her tyrannical ex-husband again. The dream makes everything just fall into plac for everyone!

Yay! Spamming the refresh button payed off!
Sorry, Belkar, but the only way your getting that dream is through nearly a lifetime of personal reform. And you have...what, a week?Calling it now: Kilkil kills Belkar
Edit: WRONG!
Calling it now #2
SpoilerAfter the showdown at Girard's gate, the party will rush to Kraagor's gate to find it was in Durkon's home fortress-burrow-thing. They will complete the Prophasy, and Team Evil will come riding over the horizon slaughtering everything that gets in their way.
Not wrong quite yet!

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Awww.
So were the two in a separate illusion where Shojo comes back to life, or did Belkar and Mr. Scruffy imagine themselves in the same afterlife as Shojo?

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Wow! Credits to the guy who said Belkar would be our next Mithril Chef champion! Well, that's close enough for me anyway.
I knew he didn't have some crazy messed up slaughterfest dream. And better yet, Mr. Scruffy was there with him too.....
Edit: think about it! If Mr. Scruffy got its innermost desires too... it would have wished its old master, Shojo was alive! And likewise, he was sorta like a mentor to Belkar, so it would only fit that he had a big part in their dream.Last edited by WindStruck; 2013-05-25 at 08:31 PM.

Should I be disturbed that Belkar and I have the same views on country music?

"We've been standing here for at least a few hours"?! I wonder why the Linear Guild hasn't found them yet.

Ok, in the end, they all shared the same dream. Belkar and Mr. Scruffy died in there, and lived the afterlife with a person that they liked: Shojo. Cute.

Well, that was nice, and it shows how long it has been. Makes me wonder through, what have the linear guild been up to for those hours?

Re: OOTS #890 - The Discussion Thread
Belkar is on the remote edge of becoming an almost pseudo-demi-slightly-sympathetic character.
Spoiler
So the song runs on, with shift and change,
Through the years that have no name,
And the late notes soar to a higher range,
But the theme is still the same.
Man's battle-cry and the guns' reply
Blend in with the old, old rhyme
That was traced in the score of the strata marks
While millenniums winked like campfire sparks
Down the winds of unguessed time. -- 4th Stanza, The Bad Lands, Badger Clark
