    What about Haley's three arms?

Or the fact that the spell accepts the keyword "gate" but nobody actually said the word.

I thought that meant that ANY of those keywords would be accepted.

Rich said at the time that the original script had one of the characters saying "Gate" as well, but the dialogue was rewritten and he forgot to make sure the word was reused elsewhere.

That's not an error. Haley disarmed someone and held onto it to make sure they couldn't retrieve it and use it against the party.

I'm glad the Giant came in and clarified matters. If Malack's 'easy-bake vampire' spell also gave full spell slots, I'd consider that an extremely powerful spell, and one with a higher level than we've seen him cast before. It would seem to duplicate the cRPG popular use of Wish to make it as if you'd Rested and regained all of your spells. OTOH, if his staff could cast such a powerful spell, it would fit in with my views on the power of that staff,

and the prospects of it being used in a Retributive Strike to blow up either this Gate or Kraagor's, probably by Belkar.

I handwaved the Detect Magic as that he was casting it from one of Malack's scrolls. It's what, a first level spell? Shouldn't the high priest, and one of the hexumvirate of the ruling power for the continent, have a practically rolling library of low-level spells like that? Similarly, I imagine Malack's been spamming Find Traps from scrolls the entire time he's been in the pyramid. I mean, would you trust Nale to find a trap before it blasted you?

It's the sort of minor continuity errors that can be expected from those who don't have alhpa readers to review their writings.
But still it can be justified by saying that durkon got new spell slots for enhanced wisdom or something. Just because it''s an error it don't mean it cannot make sense if we want it to.

I think even when you get a new spell slot, you still need to wait to meditate and receive spells to use it.

oh, hey, interesting note, rich was taking into account durkula's (lack of) higher level spell slots when having him cast that. as a result, we can surmise with a fair degree of certainty that both durkon and malack have not regained their spell slots. both of them have already cast a considerable amount today, if it comes to a fight their tank's will be pretty close to empty.

Well, yes, but malack cast an homebrewed spell to make him fast vampirize, so it may as well have replenished some spell slot if we are looking for exceuses.

So he couldn't have had True Seeing, and Locate Object is not a cleric spell.

In other words, I remembered the more plot-critical spell issue from three months ago rather than the throwaway line from a year ago.
An easy fix could be to put a scroll in Durkon's hand in the fifth panel of 894. We could assume he got it from Malack or Zdrizzit.

    I make games.

"...I worry that modern gaming is gradually shrinking the wide spectrum of gameplay mechanics into a single narrow red bar with "KILL" written on it sideways. Exploration, navigation, puzzles, platforming, all gradually shrinking away until only one thing remains, being taken by the hand from room to room, moving on only when nothing remains alive in each one." - Yhatzee Crosshaw

Well, it wouldn't need ALL the code-words, just a statistically-significant number of them. So, instead of an error, it's easily a more sophsticated spell. Obviously, one of his snot-nosed kids cast it.

    Wow, that's hard core.

By the way, I also like the idea that it was prepared in anticipation of Elan's plan. But maybe not. The plot-critical is more important than the plot-throw-away.

I know I'm stealing this from someone else. But it's SO FUNNY
