Re: Adventure on the City of Coin OOC
Xardis ready for the move.
Appearance and personality:
SpoilerBrown skinned humanoid with sparkling but serious eyes resembling yellow gems; golden energy lines glowing all over his muscled body, which shows a considerable amount of scars. Wears mundane clothes, a leather armor and carries with him a heavy shield and a longsword with glowing symbols.
He has experience intimidating, so he's scary, but not evil. Calm, serious, quick thinker, and level-headed. He mostly thinks before acting, but is headstrong, ill-tempered and stubborn sometimes at he same time. The time he spent amongst the dreaded legions of Thay did not make him fearful, but instead he was filled with a silent anger, like a volcano waiting to erupt.
Background:
SpoilerIn the dark and dreaded region of Thay (ruled by undead lords), genasi are rare and their lives are short and grim. Xardis was born in slavery, being both parents genasi slaves of the infamous Red Wizards, a sinister arcane aristocratic community of the few humans living there. At an early age, Xardis was taken away from his parents to be trained among the few ranks of the arcane soldiers of the order, and soon demonstrated his talent for both, magic and battle. Growing up amongst arrogance, cunning and treachery, Xardis always saw his mentor (an evoker mage) as his parently figure, and was soon promoted to captain of an exploration squad to quench, in the name of the Citadel, a human rebellion (which was also supported by orcs and other races).
The mission was successful, but he learned from one of the slaves that he was born as an arcane experiment, and that his parents were used in that process as well. Xardis wanted answers, but the Red Wizards anticipated his move, and Xardis was falsely accused of rallying an escape of slaves. Xardis was captured, interogated, and tortured. He was almost victim of brainwashing, when someone fred him the night before. Wounded, and with scars all over his body, he still managed to get a ship, and sailed away.
He does not remember, however, how he arrived to the City of Coins, but he met interesting people there. He would train, work as a sellsword and gain power, experience and knowledge before he can make a huge counterattack on the region who used him... A war against Thay.
He's patient. He can wait.Last edited by Wdwune; 2013-06-21 at 09:45 AM.

Re: Adventure on the City of Coin OOC
Adrie Everbright, Half-Elf Joybringer (Cleric of Lliira)
Background:
SpoilerAdrie grew up in Westgate. Orphaned at a young age, she was a street urchin for much of her life. The Gateway to the West was, and remains, a hive for all kinds of ne'er-do-wells, pirates, smugglers, and thieves. But the open, free society also welcomed those of good heart and kind countenance. Many of them stayed away due to the lawless nature of the city, but others sought to bring some measure of comfort and succor to the residents.
Adrie was, despite her low station and desperate living conditions, one of the latter. She was unrelentingly cheerful; whether an inborn trait or a defense mechanism protecting her from utter despair, her smile rarely left her face. As she grew older, she gathered a retinue of sorts; other street children flocked to her for her outlook, and protected her as a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dismal life.
Once she realized her power, she put her fellow urchins to work. The skills they'd learned on the streets now served higher aims. True, they still had to steal and con and swindle for bread. But under Adrie's guidance, they no longer did so indiscriminately. They targeted the rich and the undeserving. And they shared their spoils with those less fortunate still -- the aged and sick and the young mothers.
It was on one of these missions of mercy that a 12-year-old Adrie accompanied a group into a small hovel on evening. She expected to find dozens of Westhavians huddled inside, starving, but what she found was a revel... a party, the likes of which she'd never seen before.
This was her first encounter with a Lliiran church service, and she was entranced. She'd never seen so much joy in one place before. She immediately felt at home. And the Lliiran priests noticed something in the young girl as well... a spark of divine power, not to mention her joyous approach to life. They felt confident Lliira had guided Adrie into their church, and they took her under their wing.
Adrie was reluctant to leave her compatriots on the streets, and indeed, it took months for the Lliirans to convince her to come live with them. It was only with the promise to establish a ministry for the poor and unloved that she acquiesced.
Under the tutelage of the Lliirans, she flourished, and threw herself into worship of Lliira via her ministry to the poor. Her smiling face could convince even the most jaded and downtrodden soul to agree to poke their head into one of the Joybringers' many revels and thereby be ministered to. Membership in the church grew, and Adrie grew with it, maturing into a level-headed but still cheerful young adult.
When she came of age, and was finally officially ordained as a Joybringer, the occasion was bittersweet. For although the church had grown, the Master of the Revels felt that Adrie could do more good beyond Westgate's walls. After the most spectacular going-away party the city had likely ever seen, the young Half-Elf set off for new adventures, wandering the lands bringing joy, and the words of Lliira, to all she meets.
On her way out of the city, a stray kitten approached Adrie, who immediately fed her and expected to send her on its way. But the kitten followed her, refusing to be shooed back into the city. Giving up, Adrie acquiesced, and carried the young animal until she was old enough to keep up with the Half-Elf on her own. To this day, the cat she named Vikka follows Adrie wherever she may go, a constant companion even in the face of danger.

Derek Duvalle, bard extraordinaire, at your service.
Spoiler
Edit
Argh, I finally figured out how to attach an image, but it's too big.
All credits to the author, whoever he is.
Edit nr.2
This game is going to be a pain to handle without a good map.
I just spent the last 20 minutes checking the group's powers and more than half of us can move either him/herself or someone else during his/her or someone else's turn, or apply advantages or disadvantages if enemies are moved or kept still.
The words "kaleidoscope", "stroboscopy" and "to hurl" come to my mind.
Once we get split in groups, I vote for a short tactical briefing via Ooc-thread, otherwise we'll definitely get in each other's way.
Sorry Mistformsquirrel, I said I wouldn't ruin the "clean" OOC thread, but yours was only the first sheet I looked at. (Btw, can we call you Misty? It's easier...)Last edited by Daveheart; 2013-06-21 at 10:53 AM.

Re: Adventure in the City of Coin OOC
I was toying with some colors via random coding, but I think I'm in a pickle; the color I want doesn't exist. Darn synesthesia...
Ooh, maybe glaring, eye-rending pink? How is Glaring, eye-rending Pink?
Actually, Plum looks good. If I can get ahold of a decent image editor and find the RGB code for it, I'll probably darken it up a bit and use that.Last edited by SiuiS; 2013-06-24 at 02:06 AM.

Glaring, eye rending pink is not so aggressive, anyway. Maybe a bit Barbie style.
Of course if you don't look at it for too long...
Damned retinal afterimages...

SiuiS, please see this article on Wikipedia. It appears that any of those named colors will work here on the boards, not just the ones in the dropdrown list on the edit page. And of course, the RGB values are provided in case you want to customize them.

Re: Adventure in the City of Coin OOC
Hircine?
Is it possible to set a rule for people who can't post for a while?
Something like "after 24 h the DM is free to go on, unless he decides otherwise"?
I know I'm way too impatient, but it's the first time doing something I really want to do. I think a little of addiction is to be expected.
I would be fine with such a rule: ther will probably be times when I won't be able to login for a whole day and I expect you to go on without me.
I will try to let you know before, but if it's something work-related there's not much you can do, isn't it?
If this happens in combat I could always prepare an action or leave control of my PC to someone, or decide that he would do an at-will chosen by the rest of the group. As you surely already understood I'm not a native speaker. So it's not that you should feel free to correct me.
