Ok, wow. Good stuff! Looks like a few plot threads are coming together. The demons are indeed able to call in their marker before V's death, and she hadn't told the others about the world within the rift. Interesting. I feel the end of the book coming on.

ETA: so, what the hell (arf) is the fiends' agenda here? They want the gates destroyed becasue a freer Snarl= More Chaos, More Conflict? Or because they know the Snarl isn't real and they want the Gates down for...reasons? Also, V's assumption that there is some risk to lives on the world in the Azure City rift from Roy's destruction of Girard's gate seems to be a pretty big assumption.

Can't wait to see how this plays out.

Looks like it's time for the IFCC to cash in their chips. So, do they want the gates destroyed (are they trying to quiet V) or are they going to use V to keep the gate safe? Will be interesting to find out.

It looks like it. I'll admit, I was holding onto a small hope that the bill wouldn't be called due until V has slipped this mortal coil. But, obviously, the contract wasn't written like that. One of the lessons of fairy tales is to negotiate the price up front. Owing a favor of an undefined nature is not good.

Yes, you can. It's in the shapes of the reletive rooms.

Where the sound goes is controled by the shape and the hardness of the materials it interacts with. It takes a certain amount of cleverness, though.
