Pffffuuuummmmmmmm..... Buh."
Willem's mouth opens and closes a few times, as if searching for the words to say.
"I... I guess we could... form a defensive perimeter up here, and fill this place up with fireballs..? If they're being funneled into this tunnel, they can't swarm us..... but..... wow."

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
Serrha
The changeling's eyes open wide, staring at the vast cavern that had opened up before them. She can see the silhouettes of a great number of the tendraath, both young and grown, though she can't quite make out a definitive number. Had she not known about the vaath these creatures seem to be a subspecies of, she would have felt incredibly threatened. As it is, however... "As long as we don't make the first move," she says quietly, "we should be alright."
As her eyes adjusted a little more to account for the nature of the cavern, her breath catches in her throat. I knew there was something about this place! While she was distracted with the number of tendraath that lazed before them, her mind had secretly gone in search of old information based off the clues picked up when she made a cursory sweep of the cave with her eyes. Concentrating now, she pulls on the strings her idle mind had dug up, pushing herself with a little inspiration from another look at the walls, and there, in front of her, sat a shiny new piece of information she had completely forgotten she had known. "Guys," she whispers excitedly, "this place looks a lot like a cavern in a volcanic region. That means gemstones!" To emphasize her point, she points at what she can now identify as the glittering facet of myriad gems, peeking out through the walls.

"so ehh... we can walk down there and they won't attack us? Are you positive about that..?"
To be sure, Willem has the most recently added skeleton start slowly climbing down, carefully avoiding any of the bugs...

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
The skeletal tendraath climbs about a dozen yards out into the middle of the cavern, moving slowly and carefully. The living tendraath, in turn, give it a few feet of berth in all directions, but otherwise completely ignore it. The skeleton stands there, waiting for further orders, as the group discusses what to do now that they're here.

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
Serrha
"Wait," Serrha interjects, holding up a hand to Willem. She walks over to the undead holding Wulgren, and very gingerly takes his trident from him. Still helping us, even from beyond, she thinks sadly, a captain to the end. She pulls out her own, ordinary trident and places it where the enchanted one had been moments before. It wasn't nearly enough in compensation, but it would have to do. Returning to her previous position, she holds the trident before her, sending out a pulse to detect any threats nearby.

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
Taking their advice, Willem decides to let the sneaky skeleton that's already down there start gathering up loot he sees down there. Anything loose it can grab, it'll bring back. If things are too, uh... Attached, it will just carry back the whole body... It does this as long as it is uninterrupted, and tries to remain fairly stealthy about it all.

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
Tunnels, Part 3: Tunnel Harder
The group returns to the boat for a night of rest, bringing Wulgren's cold body to the boat and laying a shroud over him. On waking, they set grimly but determinedly about their work, preparing spells of destruction to rain down on the predators. The day is dark and overcast, but no rain falls as you march back down into the tunnels.
Care is taken this time as you approach. No ambushes seem to await you, and once again, the tendraath young flee before your lights. Soon, you stand above the cavern once more, and it's as though you hadn't left. Tendraath are crawling everywhere, and the pool of water remains as dark and still as the day before.

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
Willem
Willem casts Stone Shape twice, carving out 32 cubic feet of rock from tunnel. He carves the rock out of the ground, leaving a deep pit sitting in front of a wall of stone, with holes and grating to allow spells and arrows to pass through.
"There, now even if they rush us, they'll have to clear that pit in order to break down this wall. Nothing like a minor inconvenience to turn the tides of battle!"
Edit: forgot to add, also he lays down a Glyph of Warding on the outside of the wall-barrier, with a password that for all intents and purposes, doesn't matter, because who are we kidding, they're going to hit the wall and it's going to go boom. The Glyph is located on the middle most section of the wall, and only activated in that one square, so as to have the best chance of catching as many of them in the blast as possible.Last edited by AngryCyc; 2013-07-20 at 06:09 PM.

Adrian nods. "I shall prepare, as well." He begins to cast several spells in rapid succession, summoning a number of plantbeasts and enhancing his own senses with that of the aquatic mammals.

Maahes
Maahes will put an illusion of the party in front of the stone shaped wall with Minor Image. He will then cast flaming sphere from a scroll, and use it to cast Pyrotechnics, potentially blinding everything with 120' of the flaming sphere (DC 14). Also, I can't prepare Pyrotechnics as a wizard spell yet, so I'll keep Scare, and ready Pyrotechnics instead Flaming Sphere with Southern Magician. Maahes will also throw a 5d6 fireball in there at some point (DC 15 for half).

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
The crew of the late Captain Wulgren readies its defenses. A pit is dug, a wall is raised. Maahes sets his illusions of the party, putting them in a defensive stance in front of the wall. Around them, Adrian's massive, plant-like animals stand, staring into the darkness.
After several hurried minutes of preparation, there comes a lull. You look around at each other, and realize that everything is ready; it's your last chance to back out. Then....a spark flies from Enrico's hand, and the chaos begins.
Spoiler
For the sake of my sanity and keeping things moving, you guys are going to be rolling their saves. I'll assume fairly uniform distribution of the tendraath throughout the cavern. The young will basically die to anything, so all you have to roll is the adults. Anything with a 20 foot radius will hit a dozen, 10 foot radius will hit four, 40 foot radius will hit thirty. The adults saves are +7 Fort, +9 Reflex, +7 Will.
For the surprise round, they're about 60 feet away. After their first turn, they'll be much closer (basically at the wall).
You all have your surprise round, then Reglanere, Frieda, Willem, and Maahes act, then the bugs go WHAT THE HECK, then everyone else for the round order. Ready, set, go!

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
Willem
Willem draws himself up, ready to unleash the wrath of the Sea upon his foes, and then he realizes... they're all still too far away for him to do anything. He stops mid-gesture and just kind of sits and waits for other people to do something......
His two Skelebugs are up front at the wall, waiting in case it falls. The zombie and the stealth bug are in the back of the party, keeping an eye out for anything coming from behind them.
And Willem sits there impotently, waiting for his chance to attack...

Re: The Iron Coast [IC]
Reglanere stands upright, hands clasped behind her back, looking into the fray. Her eyes blink and a shower of glitter explodes in the room. She begins stepping through the motions and softly singing the words the predicate her light attack, and in moments, fires off a blast at one of the bugs.
SpoilerIn the surprise round, I cast glitterdust wherever my 14 int guesses hiders might be hiding, as a SLA. If you want an int check, here it is. (1d20+2)[21]
In the first round, I hold until they move close enough, and cast the orb of light, at one of the adults.

Adrian
Adrian commands his beasts to cause the cavern's molds and fungi to grow and wrap around the tendraath, while he himself summons a massive storm of driving sleet around a large cluster.
SpoilerThe two bats are flying, so they should be out of the way of any attacking tendraath. They and the wolf use Entangle, and Adrian casts Sleet Storm.
All of those are 40-foot-radius spells, so lots of saves coming up. They'll probably make most of them, but hey, even if they do save they still move at half speed.

Serrha
Serrha crouches into a combat position - arms up, feet set wide - and waits for the inevitable onslaught of the tendraath. She calls both of her prepared spells to mind, but keeps Web on the tip of her tongue, ready to loose it at a moment's notice. Beyond that, she brandishes her guisarme, part of her wishing that none of the creatures get close enough for her to have to use it.
SpoilerReady Web, casting it from wall to wall, just before the first of the adult tendraath reach the trough we dug.
