Random Banter #196
So, random banter. The Collective strikes once again, with its gracefully simple thread titles, and claims this place for its own. As compensation, I give you this song for you to listen to as you read the most insightful and intelligent conversation that is sure to take place within the confines of this thread.

How To Random Banter:
Rules of the Random Banter Thread
1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.
2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.
4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.
12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.
13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.
14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.
15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

Re: Random Banter #196
Copied over from last thread:
Well, come to the next one that happens while you're in the UK. Or get enough money to travel from Finland for one some time!
I kind of get that. Not so much people getting married and having kids (Though some of my friends have), but people generally getting on with their lives.
Eh, I'd say it varies. Sometimes it's interesting to have a villain with a bit of a tragic backstory or whatever, or at least some explanation for why they are the way they are, but sometimes the purity of a "for the evulz" villain can be more fitting and compelling in an entirely different way.
Au contraire.
Sorry to spoil your fun, but I like being the know-it-all.
I would disagree. The second was a bit ,eh in places, the third was good with some spectacular moments, and the fourth was more or less back to the good quality of the first.

Oh, was he actually naked? My mum must have been self-censoring, she always said it was a shirtless scene.
Oh, yes, definitely. Can we just forcibly separate him from Tim Burton?
That;s not au contraire, that's exactement ainsi. I said he wasn't on the list, not that he hadn't made a thread. And on the old list, RB #117 is jsut called that, missing the name of RD. Which is inconvenient for archive purposes.Last edited by MoonCat; 2013-07-10 at 05:55 PM.

Except it's not contrary to his claim to have made one before, because he did make one before.
And how is it inconvenient for archive purposes?
He is under no obligation to come up with an elaborate title, which I do not doubt he could if he so wished.Last edited by Thufir; 2013-07-10 at 06:02 PM.

Re: Random Banter #196
Like a firework of untapped potential... :3
I for one find it delightfully short, a welcome change of pace in its originality, like a brief winter to refresh your summer spirit (or vice versa)...
Well, it makes it harder to enforce the "50 threads minimum" rule, but for as long as only one person is doing it, it should be fine...

Re: Random Banter #196
Yes it is scary. Every bridal shower and baby shower might be the last time the people ever see that girl. And of course you're not supposed to say it and scare her. So that thought just sits there but it shows up anyway.
I mean, I could never see you again after this. But there was no good reason to think that would happen. It would be OK but not saying goodbye when death is coming is not OK.
Dying is scary even if someone is just dying in the spirit. Even if you will only never see her again.I have found a RL gaming group but I'm willing to meet other GitP people nearby.

Re: Random Banter #196
I am too lazy to bring quote over from last thread (*boogie*, by the way.), but the second and third Pirates movies are pretty horrible. A pathetic excuse for a time jump, random characterization changes, and the installment of a non intimidating villain who is blackmailing Sushiface. The first one at least pretended to be funny, and didn't let Depp do... Whatever he wanted. ALSO, IT DIDN't NEED A SEQUEL. ESPECIALLY NOT TWO MOVIES THAT BARELY EVEN share... The...same setting...*cries*

Re: Random Banter #196
They are parties before the wedding or before the baby and everyone is required to bring a gift for her. Maybe it's an American idea. So I don't know if the answer is "you will find out soon" or maybe you don't have them at all where you live.
I have lost friends that way even if they are still alive. If I call her and try to talk she is not the same person any more. We're strangers. I am grieving. That's OK. We can grieve together about our own woes. The classic grief drink is something stronger than tea though.
Oh. I see now. And why not. It seems OK to me now to have a different person make the thread and claim the thread. What did The Rose Dragon call it? A surrogate, that was it.I have found a RL gaming group but I'm willing to meet other GitP people nearby.

Re: Random Banter #196
Well, everybody was in a panic just a moment ago. One of the chickens managed to get into one of the garden beds AGAIN.
And right after we thought we got all the chickens, right when I was coming back inside, I saw 3 chickens loose in the yard. The first one was easy, since it ran right into the netting that we use to protect the vegetables and flowers from the chickens and got stuck in it. So, that one was a major cakewalk for me, but it got harder with the other two. But it wasn't hard for very long.
I would not be surprised if those chickens could escape from Alcatraz.
Who knew how much fun poultry can be. Top that, budgies! :P

Re: Random Banter #196
I almost missed this thread, without the elaborate title. I almost said that this was a trend that harkened back to the classics, but even they included the creator's name which this one does not. Though, this wasn't the first time he's done this...

Re: Random Banter #196
RB: the Vanilla version. Clever, huh? I see no issue.
You know, chicken Alcatraz would be a line of chalk on a bit of concrete with a row of chickens stuck staring at it.
Poultry is even more enjoyable when the city kids decide to try to catch the chickens. Usually you do not need to. Just herding them into the coup is good enough. Just like ducks, you probably do not want to cuddle them; they will leave presents running down your front. Baby chickens are very cuddly though (just be careful as they are a little fragile).
Now if you want an affectionate bird, you need budgies. (Cockatiels still make better companions however, and ravens are quite smart.)I go by they/them/their or he/him/his pronouns

Re: Random Banter #196
Was afraid to see it. So I didn't. (The whole "Actually decent villain" coming back from the first movie annoyed me when I saw the second ones end. Them making this -quel of "roar Blackbeard, looks like squid face, but less squid (evil goons recycled) just looked so intolerable.. But I actually liked the first movie. So contaminated demands of purity can be ignored.

Re: Random Banter #196
I go away for two days and there is a new thread.
*golf clap* I'm proud of you, RB. Keep it coming.
I think I skipped a few things that I thought were hilarious but didn't feel like dragging up. So, Coid, Dimo, & Enderlord; y'all made me laugh.
ET WAS MAH CORNAH TAH BUHGIHN WITH! It was, and I'm not sure how you forgot. :smallertongue:
Mwahahahahahaha
Hrm... I'm tempted to mess with the resolution on this monitor to see if I can get rid of the blue.
And damn proud!
Nah. I complain about everything, whether there's a problem with it or not. I only point out inaccuracies that are there.
I enjoyed myself. Mwhahahahaha :smallertongue:
No. I know how to open a bottle, and I don't try to do that when I'm angry.
Mwhahahaha And you'll never know, will you?
Some people don't. It's a useful way to keep track of who's talking to you. I normally read through everything unless it's obviously not of interest to me, unless I've got a bunch of pages to catch up on, and then I just skim through the posts until I see my name or something funny.
You may not want to let Finn-tsun know you said that. You'll have all sorts of stuff scribbled on your face.
I would always treat it as a compliment, but I do that for most things. You, sir, are welcome. Also, yay for satire!
He can spoiler them as much as he wants; I still skim the ones that aren't to me and respond in a full wall of unspoilered text.
If you're the least silly of all of your friends, then you know some crazy people.
What a horrible thing for you to do, Kneenibble. I'm sure his progeny will never forgive you.
Depending on the person, I'd probably be jumping for joy.
Dying isn't scary. It's other people dying that sucks. As soon as I have a rough estimate of when I'm going to die, I'll start burning bridges. I'll enjoy pissing them off, and they'll enjoy waiting for me to kick the bucket. Win-win.
Then again, I may have a bit of a skewed perspective on this.
What math are you studying?
ION: So, WVA and stuff. I'll get to it in a bit.Avatar by FinnLassie
A few odds and ends.
