A red metal door sits in one wall—the only other feature in the room is a five-foot-wide mosaic of a coiled serpent slightly offset from the room’s center in the floor that Iluvar finds himself standing upon, and The Scribe right next to him. Iluvar's eyes have to adjust as there was a wash of energy that flowed over him when he entered. Iluvar, you feel ... strange. You feel disconnected from the well of life enegy, and you don't see any color overlay from your deathwatch eyes as you look at The Scribe. He doesn't read as .... anything ... except background, like a wall. Not a construct, undead, or anything.

R3T18: "Iluvar, step off of the mosaic," says The Scribe, moving to a different square as he looks carefully. "That spot I was just in is good."

R5T17: The door "behind" Erima (to the NE) opens up. She is only of average height (5'9"), with a moderate build that is hidden by finely crafted plate armor. She has an equally finely crafted shield readied. A red cape billows down from her shoulders. She has dark auburn hair, cut short, and deep blue eyes. She could have been beautiful, but the left side of her face and lips contain nasty scars.

Upon seeing the PCs, she cries out, “Who are you? Sorshen’s latest pawns? Her newest playthings? Let me welcome you to this cursed place with all you deserve!”

She glares menacingly at Rezah.

R5T9: Rezah transfers his scimitar to his shield hand, casts a spell on his hand, covering it with a dark energy. "Stare at me with dark power, then know that I serve She who gives life, and entrusts her servants to know when to take it away!"

He steps forward and touches her in the belly, the dark energy lancing forth into her ... and seemingly doing nothing.

R5T8: Fallon comes darting out of the room she was in to the NW to stand next to Rezah, but can't get in a good hit past the doorway.

R6T27: Sensing the return of much of her magic, Telgarana pops out her shield wand from its holder, and activates it on herself. But with her black blade katana in her other hand, she decides to just hold onto it for now rather than put her sword away just to put the wand away. She moves out to the middle of the next room to get a good look at this woman. "We don't serve Sorshen. The Runelord died thousands of years ago. We're here to evict the squatter currently usurping her name. If that is your only argument with us, then we have none."

R6T20: Iluvar looks at the Scribe, who nods in return, before opening the door. As soon as he opens the door, he realizes the door was a perfect sound barrier and he hears a loud fracas to the south. Iluvar, not being directly confronted, steps just outside the door.

R6T18: The Scribe looks at his weapons and spins it, being satisfied about something, and then rushes out the door and past Iluvar and in the direction of the fray, joining the others.

R6T17: "Your priest attacked me, and now we have argument!" screams the woman to the crowd at large before focusing on Rezah. "You shall find I will not yield against you, whatever claims of righteous you dare!"

And with that, she draws her longsword and she and Rezah cross swords in fury.

R6T9: Rezah takes a quick moment to stare at her, and then says, "Mayhaps you haven't committed your life to evil, but you have committed to ruin to match arms with me."

As he says that, everybody (except Iluvar) senses Rezah's confidence return, buoyed by his courage. He puts too much power into his swing, and despite a valiant attack, her armor is brawn and repels his slender scimitar.

R6T8: Fallon tries to acrobatically force her way past the woman, but gets a sword score lightly across her belly for 10 mod and then repulsed. Fallon's own sword finds no entry.

R7T20: "What is going on and why are we fighting a red-headed human woman along whose line of bearing I sense no evil?" Iluvar asks.

R7T18: "Well," says The Scribe, "situationally, I don't know, because you and I came late. But her garb marks her as a Gray Maiden, and I wouldn't doubt the leader of the Gray Maidens we've faced here. The Gray Maidens in general were disgraced bodyguards and enforcers for the late Queen Ileosa Barbasti of Korvosa, and many of them fled Korvosa after her demise to become mercenaries."

R7T17: "I am Oriana, leader of the Gray Maidens you've found here under my command," the woman says as he soft crits Rezah in the hip for 25, and follows through by disarming Rezah, his sword clattering to the south against the wall and bouncing to the west.. "How fares Quenelle Page - my lieutenant - and the rest of my girls?"

R7T9: Rezah's expression is unreadable under his helm, but he withdraws to his sword, picks it up, and lays a hand on himself for 13 healing.

R7T8: Fallon steps back a few feet, and looks to The Scribe and the others on what to do next.

R8T27: "Look, we fought because none of us seem to know who's the bad guy here and, let's face it," Telly says in a guarded stance, "your girls did their duty well. I am pretty sure that was your second-in-command downstairs we killed, but if it helps, we gave succor to those that did not die instantly to our blades. Now, we can duke this out, our numbers vs. you, and even the Sarenite self-healing, or we can stop killing ourselves like civilized people and figure this out."

R8T9: Rezah's teeth set in a voiceless snarl, for no love is lost - evil or no - between himself and this former puppet of an evil queen. He sheathes his scimitar and says through gritted teeth, "I yield to your superior swordwork, Oriana."

Telgarana goes north, with Fallon and Oriana remaining to the south. The Scribe hands his ranseur to Iluvar to hold while the former cranks the mechanism. With Oriana's knowledge, the party times out the use of their preparations (as above)...

Nothing, except The Scribe and Rezah working the mechanism, and there is a horrific reverberation, mechanical rumbling all throughout the complex.

Iluvar is mindful of the tactics he mentioned to the others.

Erima bulks up. A strong wind blows from her, rustling her hair and clothing.

Telgarana casts mirror image on herself (3 images).

Iluvar clicks his heels three times, and chants something about going home.

Erima's heavy astral armor forms around her.

Fallon casts shield on herself.

Preparation Round Four ...

The Scribe and Rezah continue working the mechanism. Extreme noise hazard continues.

Iluvar casts protection from energy [fire] on himself.

Telgarana uses her wand of shield.

Erima looks to Rezah. "I have a power that'll have you take damage from a recipient - say Fallon, but you can healer her. Good?" Rezah nods, and Erima uses her share pain on them for Fallon sharing her pain with Rezah.

Final Round Five ...

The Scribe and Rezah continue working the mechanism and bring the snake heads of the mosaic to point to each other.

While that happens, Telgarana puts away her wand of shield.

Golden mist fills the area like a flowing golden curtain between the wings.

Both sets of parties head to the golden mist, and the world around them changes!

Both sets of heroes (and one possible antihero on a redemption arc) appear between a set of western pillars, facing east into an ovoid, white marble chamber -- an opulent, domed affair, with a ceiling of polished silver peaking twenty feet above. A pair of mosaic snake patterns decorate the floor to the north and south. Polished black marble pillars rise up along the edges of the room, metal manacles hanging from their inward-facing sides at a height of five feet. Articles of armor and clothing lie scattered on the floor, while to one side of the room an upraised platform sits a foot above the rest of the room. This platform is strewn with furs and blankets, and at its back near the wall sits an enormous canopied bed.

A recently killed Gray Maiden hangs from the manacles attached to the pillar just southwest of the bed. Her body is strangely brittle and dry, and bears obvious signs of torture.

The sole (living) occupant of this room is a stunningly beautiful brunette with green eyes, tan skin, and flecks of green crystals cosmetically implanted into the skin of her arms. She looks exactly like Erima did for a short while when she was under the curse of looking like a Sorshen clone, as well as what the lustspawn in the great hall was disguised as briefly. She is reclining on the bed as the PCs arrive, and rises from the bed in her full beauty in the image of the Runelord of Lust as she realizes she has new visitors.

She looks at the Gray Maiden with the party, “Oriana, my love, this is unexpected. Am I to take your return to my boudoir as indication you’ve had a change of heart after our previous... conversation?”

Begin Round One ...

R1T27: The Scribe begins, "I know now who or what you are, but you are not the Runelord Sorshen. She died millenia ago, and that sotted slut was too impetuous - if I read annals about her correctly - she would never have the patience to lie fallow all this time. No, you are likely a passable knockoff ... but a cheap knockoff, nonetheless."

R1T26: Telgarana shakes her head and says, "Runelord or no, she's still probably some type of enchantress, so let's not waste time giving her the upper hands with charms, shall we?"

She moves to the center of the room, while taking out a small stick of amber. Casting a spell, the amber stick cracks even as a massive static charge rushes forth to strike Sorshen squarely (and pass through and behind her), but the faux-Sorshen's body is like a faraday cage, the electricity never having actually touched her, but dissipating about the surface.

R1T22: Fallon takes wing and flies to the height of a man as she draws her rapier and moves forward in a blur. Despite a forceful and speedy jab, her rapier is deflected by what appears to be unnaturally hard skin.

R1T21: Iluvar moves directly south of the pseudo Sorshen, and tries to throat check her. He feels himself blast through one layer of magical protection, only to get stopped by another close to her skin like an unseen suit of armor.

R1T14: "I will no longer be your plaything, you gaslighting ****!" Oriana roars in challenge and defiance before charging Sorshen, Fallon having been thoughtful enough to fly high enough for Oriana to have a clear path. Her sword slams into Sorshen's belly for 17 mod, some of the impact having been dissipated.

R1T9: Rezah stares at the battle and recoils his glare. "That doesn't make sense for a wizard, no matter how powerful. She possesses an overwhelming aura of evil! Well, then, Evil creature, I defy you, and with Sarenre's blessing, I will lay you low."

He stalks towards the battle carefully, using a quick prayer to heal himself of all remaining damage from his brief scuffle with Oriana.

R1T11: Sorshen, hearing The Scribe's words more than any other, simply laughs. She clicks the boots of her heels. Scalloped, leathery wings sprout from her back as she begins to fly up and away acrobatically. Iluvar misses his attack while Oriana's sword is deflected by magical defense. Sorshen gets out of that tangle and to a height of 10'. Looking down, she says, "Oh, Oriana, such heavy clothing does not become you. You see that even though you strike me and draw blood, I do not attack you, right? Seek peace. Cast aside your weapons and strip away your armor and gear."

Oriana simply says, "Never again."

R1T3: Erima skates on the ground, getting in front of Rezah, before dashing up in a stream of light, hitting "Sorshen" in the chests for 11 mod on the way, then falling back to the ground and taking 3 mod + prone.

End Round One, Begin Round 2 ...

R2T27: The Scribe had hoped to get some kind of reaction out of her by pointing out that she wasn't Sorshen, but that gambit failed. He darts forward uses his ranseur in a unique thrust but completely misses.

R2T26: "I'm really getting sick of the Sorshen Look-a-Like Air Corps," mutters Telgarana, remembering her exasperating fight with the lustspawn in the great hall. She looks at her blade, representing her entire ideology and approach to fighting and sighs. "Sorry, my friend, but we've another enemy that just won't stand and fight on the ground and try to kill us like a civilized person."

She sheathes her black blade, and clutches the pouch holding the Shard of Greed, activating its power on herself and her allies. "Incoming speed boost, everyone!"

R2T22: Fallon flies up as high as she can so that she is at the ceiling with Sorshen. She tries attacking the winged Sorshen, but her blade is deflected by unseen defenses.

R2T21: Iluvar, what do you do? You are currently hasted.

R2T21: Iluvar moves along the ground towards Sorshen, and then 15' up in the air. As he closes, she strikes him with a guisarme across his belly for 8. Iluvar closes further and tries to grab her, but she is stronger than he and rebuffs the attempt. Iluvar drops from the sky, landing deftly on his feet below. He won't be able to use them again for another minute.

R2T14: Oriana, getting an idea of how this battle is going to be, puts away her longsword and stares intently at Sorshen in seemingly impotent rage.

R2T9: Rezah puts away his sword and shield.

R2T8: "Sorshen" flaps just a few feet over by the nearest pillar. She carefully casts a spell with Fallon right there, but Fallon's silvery rapier is threatening enough that Sorshen loses the spell she was going to attempt.

R3T21: "I always wanted to fly", says Iluvar. He moves to the northeast and in preparation for completely unloading on his enemy, he makes a flying kick to attack the psuedo-Sorshen, softly whispering as he goes, "Pharasma guide my attacks."

Even with his skill at skirmishing, she stabs him in the right elbow with her guisarme for 9. At the same time, an arrow fired from Telly skims off her outer layer of magical protection.

Already moving like a rocket, Iluvar's kick-forward-and-upwards momentum continues, kicking past her magical protection only to find that her hide alone is incredibly durable. His kick is very forceful, but he doesn't seem to stick the blow ... or the landing, for normally, he'd be pushing off an opponent's body - as he does - to find his footing. But in trying to find his footing in flight while chambering for his next attack, he can't remain airborne and falls. Ever the acrobat, he lands on his feet.

R3T14: Oriana puts away her shield and takes out her bow while stepping slightly north.

R3T9: Rezah takes out his bow, but heads over to Iluvar to put a hand on him for 12 healing. "Looks like you need more practice doing what you always wanted, Iluvar."

R3T8: With Fallon no longer pressing her, Faux-Sorshen flies to the southwest and casts a spell that hits everyone except Fallon.

R3T8 (Cont'd): The Scribe recognized the spell as it was being cast, and his mind closed off in a series of protective mantras. Erima's mind is hammered by the event despite some resistance. Iluvar didn't recognize the spell, and that confusion throws him off kilter as he falls prey to the spell. Rezah has no idea what the spell is, but his mind is the strongest here; despite a brief tussle, his faith sees him past the power of the spell. Telly's mind is completely overwhelmed in surprise as she has never had to deal with his effect before. Oriana never had a chance.

R3T3: Erima's mind is overwhelming her with terrible things to do to her fellows while she heals (FH2). She tries to control the mental confusion by causing herself pain to crystallize her thoughts. She carefully holds her axe to her left arm and digs through the armor to score a line for 12 damage.

End Round 3, Begin Round 4 ...

R4T27: The Scribe curses when he sees the vacant, bewildered, or enraged eyes of several of his friends. He tries to use the wand of fly on himself, and then curses, "Oh, for crying out loud! Not now! NOT NOW!" before he moves quickly across the room.

R4T22: "Confusion?! Now, that's just wrong," chirps Fallon. "Worst part about it is I have dispel magic in my book, but I didn't think to prep it."

Fallon flies laterally over the mess of people, but still out of reach. She casts a spell, and a beam of concentrated heat is launched at Faux-Sorshen, hitting her in the wing for 8 mod fire. Fallon sighs. "Of course she's resistant to fire. Bat wings, previous evidence of spell and weapon resistance, thick hide, resistant to fire. What are we fighting, Scribbles? 'Cause I'm thinking demon ... wing-shape is making me think alu-demon, a cheap knock-off of a succubus."

R4T21.1: The mental assault caused Telly a massive migraine, even physical pain, and she is verbalizing a quick litany of magical knowledge to keep her sanity in check, not realizing this is exactly what sanity not in check looks like.

R4T21: Iluvar is lost in a mindscape of truly bizarre, Vudran-inspired phantasmagoria. He sees a half-orc mercenary of an asura next to him, its evil aura practically glowing, and Iluvar dedicates himself to its destruction, mindful of how best to destroy those like himself - those of half-human blood. He spins low to knock the evil merc to the ground. Even as the half-orc falls, he does a controlled fall to elbow drop the half-orc for 7, but doesn't stun him. He continues his momentum back up to standing, but then a knee drop onto the merc's foot for 5. He burns his life energy to give him more speed to curb stomp him, but the merc's armor stops him.

"Rezah, don't counter!" calls out the Scribe.

R4T14: Oriana is overwhelmed by scenes of horror around her, and is unable to act.

R4T9: Rezah stands, surprised that no counter comes his way.

"Move away!" calls The Scribe, and Rezah does just that.

R4T8: Faux-Sorshen seems to be visibly disturbed by Fallon's words and she flies north, only to send a fireball back to cover everyone except The Scribe. Fallon and Iluvar completely dodge out of the way.

Erima was too focused on controlling her thoughts to see the fireball coming in. Rezah, even with Sarenrae's protection, isn't good at avoiding big attacks. Telly, similarly, is agile but not skilled against this type of danger. They each take 25 fire.

Oriana uses he shield to help her minimize the blast to only take 12 fire.

R4T3: Erima, the burn of fire snaps you out (though FH2), but you are enraged. What do you do? Your action must be spent focused on attacking Faux-Sorshen ... not buffing or doing anything to yourself or others "to better attack later."

R5T27: The Scribe puts away his wand. He looks at the Faux-Sorshen and calls upon his vast store of planar lore. "You're right, Fallon. My friends, if you can understand me through this ensorcellment, she is an alu-demon ... spawn of mortal and succubus, but still fully demonic evil outsider. Cold iron or good weapons or holy spells if you have them. Beware her vampiric touch! Someone else besides myself and Fallon ... appeal or castigate her for her falsehood in not being the real Sorshen."

He lets drop his ranseur, and takes out his bow.

R5T22: Fallon gets well clear of Erima, casts the same spell as before and hits Faux-Sorshen in the wing for only 1 mod fire with a beam of heat. She sighs.

R5T21.1: Telly, you are still mentally foggy, but that flying demon-whatsit just attacked with a fireball. You did hear/understand The Scribe, but you are not able to do someting so nuanced as attack psychologically ... only attack in a manner that is meant to cause harm to Faux-Sorshen. What do you do?
