That wasn't thread necromancy.

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
Spoilerin honor of super Tuesday (today) I will ask this question politically
Mr. Maerok, if elected lord of liches, what would you do to make them worth their level adjustment?

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
Please remember that there's another thing good about liches: They have a touch attack that deals 1d8 negative energy damage. Who'll prevent them touching themselves? Sure; I don't heal naturally; I'd usually need spells for that. But give me a few rounds, let me touch myself a bit.. Ooh, a bit longer.. And I'm back at full HP.
Or: Gentle Repose. Cast every week. You'll just never decompose, and though people may notice you're dead, they won't find you horrible, since you don't smell, and when you give someone a hand, they won't end up with more fingers then they've started with. Just use Prestidigitation every now and then, for hygiene's sake, and everything's just dandy.
+4 LA is a lot. But when you're an eleventh lvl caster, get your +4 LA lich template, and buy yourself the Spellstitched template.. Well; getting about fifty-odd spells per day extra isn't bad, when you're hitting lvl 12. True, you cóúld get that with another undead template or creature type, too. Personally, the Ghoul could well be more interesting. The Vampire certainly is, in my opinion.
Now I'm wondering: Is a wiz3/cl3/Mystic Theurge8 Spellstitched undead perhaps a certain sign of Munchkin? Hello; I can do every trick in the book, and can cast every spell you'll ever find... Lots of times.

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
I don't know about you, but I think the idea of lichs touching themselves is a disturbing one.

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
I have to say, the idea of the Bard/Arcane Archer/ BAelnorn has been bouncing round my head for AGES, and I could probably mess with this to make it work...
EDIT: Oops. Forgot I got to this from a sig link and not the front page...

That's ironically relevant.

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
This is something I feel might also be adressed.
"Or send it out to the Far Realms via a bag of holding + portable hole combo and let them reform there. That'd put any Lich without the proper spells out of order for a while."
In Fiend Folio (yes I know many people dont like it for it's stats but if nothing lese the RP info is good) there are the Kaorti (pg 108).
They were made when a group of "curious wizards" went there and were transformed into Kaorti.
The likely hood of a Lich going to the Far Realm and coming back without any alterations from the energy of the plane is almost, if not, impossible in my opinion.
More so if you consider the fact that in the case mentioned above the Lich is reforming in the Far Plane. The Energy would unquestionalbly affect the Lich.
Lets not also forget that there are things that live in the Far Realm that could affect the lich as well.

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
... I love it!
Some of the wording is a bit confusing, though.
Still, in one game I'm in I'm playing a Lich Wu Jen/Warmage/Ultimate Magus, and I'm definitelt showing my DM this thread..."Once upon a time, a story was never finished..."

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
Uber-Thread Necromancy, but a great write up! There were several interensting variants in the book of the same name: "Goodman Games Complete Guide to Liches" had some interesting variants on the Lich.
Thanks to Ceika (X2), Yeril, Holammer and Dr. Bath for the Avatars!

Yes, I've enjoyed that guide as well. However, Maerok's guide gets bonus points for being awesome AND free.

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
As far as you know...
I wanna collect everything I've done and make The Big Book of Bad. Plus, I'm glad this survived the thread kills. Unless those are due in the future.
Also, thread necromancy! Strangely relevant? You decide!

The thing I don't like about Goodman's Guide is that it seems like it might fall into the same rut that always happens in RPG systems:
They take a neat concept and apply it to everything - warlich, lich-couch, lich-dog, lich-lich, etc. - and at the same time violate the sanctity/unsanctity of that concept from the ground up. They don't know when to call it quits when you approach the outer limits of what the concept originally held dear.
Wizards did this with poison - making a different branch of poison for everything that moves. Positoxin, etc.Last edited by Maerok; 2009-07-17 at 03:58 PM.

Re: Complete Lich - Your Guide to Immortality and Beyond
was looking around, and found this post.. figured i'd mention one of my favorite builds i had ever made..
pixie - monk\druid\lich
it was nice to stack the dex, and wis only, and pump out a pixie monk that turns into a druid. The druid then turns into whatever, and after being a lich, and the appropriate feats/stats for shapeshift dragon, eventually you find yourself an undead dragon pixie with stunning fists, an ac/ap based off of wisdom (with the appropriate feats) aswell as your epic spells, immune to sneak attack, and crits... completely naked in dragon form you get
90+ AC, 80+ attack, immune to crit/sneak, epic spells, the ability to fly, shapeshift in a pixie skull so you can almost fit in the space of a bread crumb.. and going with a story line of one wise, and curious pixie you can pull it off pretty easy.
I actualy brought this build to NWN PRC, and it seemed i made alot of scroll of harm, but then again that was because i had NPCs casting heal on me to kill me...Last edited by bobthecreapy; 2010-07-19 at 03:42 PM.

The amount of times the thread's come back from the dead strangely fits the topic.
