Star Power II: The Ion, the Mitch and the Wormhole
Hello, posting up the second thread for Star Power, a comic written by Michael "Mookie" Terraciano and drawn by Garth someone-or-other, I forget his last name
You can find the comic here: http://www.starpowercomic.com/first-post-ever/
We of course are successors at least in spirit to the dominic deegan snark threads so…beware. here there be snarkers. We are of the opinion that Mookie's writing hasn't improved at all, or much, and that Garth's art while good is…..bad on the expression thing….oh and don't read the mouseover text or the newsposts, those are only little packets of stupid.
You can find the previous thread here:

As with Dominic Deegan, slays went out of hand. Here are the links to my slain version of the first issue (from the previous thread):

New Comic
What's really out of the ordinary is how, in order to fit in the corridor at that angle, Bill-in-the-Box must be phasing out of the wall.

I think this chapter might end similarly to this, only worse written.

Re: Star Power II: Snarking, No Longer Preemptive
I think the opening post should say something about the terrible mouseover text and the "O-Lord-why"-head-banging-against-wall-to-ease-the-agony newsposts. You know, just to warn new readers before they get the written equivalent of a Bengal rocket shot in their belly.

Re: Star Power II: Snarking, No Longer Preemptive
To go back to the plan here -- it's really not so bad, by the low bar set by Mookie's previous work.
While it is true BHB has left a lot of holes (ha!) in his plan, it does fit the character we're given. He thinks he is the galaxy's biggest badass and is in love with big booms; it is totally in character for him to not care about being vulnerable to his cowed hostage. After all, who is going to take a shot at BHB? Not so loser cargo captain, that's for sure!
In a better written comic, BHB would meet his end when his hubris worked against him, but we all know he's going to get lazored by Danica eventually
Now, why doesn't SSS scan its cargo or have rudimentary security procedures? That's a fair question but we've already seen how awful their security is and it is fair to assume that BHB knew that when he made his plan.

Re: Star Power II: Snarking, No Longer Preemptive
Where are they anyway?
Danica just wandered there by accident, when a minute ago she was in a relatively crowded area.
So either BHB openly threatened someone with a gun just next to a corridor with a lot of people (kind of counter-productive after hiding in a box to sneak in), or Danica just happened to randomly go to the same secluded area where BHB is.

The title has been changed to the majority vote from the last thread. I apologize for my impulsively fast posting of this thread and titling it preemptively.

Re: Star Power II: Snarking, No Longer Preemptive
Dramatic build-up so the later fall has more impact?
But yeah, the comic isn't so bad. BHB's plan can actually work, and it depends on elements he can control. He can check if the station has crappy security, and that has been established in the comic. And the first thing we learn about BHB is that he is very good at intimidating people and extorting something from them. Finding a especially sheepish freight captain that won't do the reasonable thing should be possible for him.
And now we have entered the contrived-convenience-stage.

Re: Star Power II: Snarking, No Longer Preemptive
Adding to that, Squidies are not humans. Maybe they naturally are good at suppressing signs of fear and nervousness, or maybe they don't have external characteristics of these emotions at all? Could be alien reasons to explain how trusting your captive and going in blind aren't as stupid sounding as they might be with a human.

Re: Star Power II: Snarking, No Longer Preemptive
True, in Squidland, all hostage takers are by definition honorable. When they say they will do something they do it. So when bill tells Tentacle Tom "Get me into the station without raising the alarm, and I wont blow up your ship" he believes him, because thats how this works.

Re: Star Power II: Snarking, No Longer Preemptive
I think like how in DD we had the running comic strip that brought every arc into a single panel each, we should do the same here to keep track of head canon. Kind of put together our own history of Star Power so we can constantly compare the two and laugh over which one makes more sense.

Is the comic meant to be posted today? It's been in the Sneaky Gate for hours but I was waiting until it was up officially.

Re: Star Power II: The Ion, the Mitch and the Wormhole
I ... guess orange means yelling?
I'm more wondering what the heck is wrong with BHB in the bottom left panel. Even granting for a little bit of foreshortening, those proportions seem WAY off (and even I as a non-artist can tell).
I mean, doing a quick measurement, he's at MOST five head heights tall (and his torso is only one head tall), which means his head is just too big.
EDIT: And what is up with his right arm? His shoulder is up near his ear level on that side (in the bottom left panel, again)... that guy simply can't be human.Last edited by Doompuppy; 2013-08-23 at 09:27 AM.

Re: Star Power II: The Ion, the Mitch and the Wormhole
Well thank god she has had so much practice with her super powers that she can differentiate between punching through a star ship and punching a guy in the face. Otherwise that would have been messy.

Re: Star Power II: The Ion, the Mitch and the Wormhole
It just occurred to me... did he not recognize her without her starsuit on? He saw her flying around in space not four hours ago, and was told by the Void guys that she beat up their space fighters. Why would he think he can just take her hostage?

Re: Star Power II: The Ion, the Mitch and the Wormhole
Also different colored hair. I don't think it's the worst leap in logic not to recognize her on sight. Different clothes, hair, eyes, wasn't really looking at her face the first time...
