Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I did that cave the way I did because rocks are rough. I'll go back to that image once I have more time (last week of school rush), but for now I was bored so I altered the designs on my royals elves, and suddenly it turned into a family tree. As I stayed up until two in the morning drawing this I got really lazy on the less important characters and just repurposed other designs I had laying around. If they're greyed out it means they're dead, or presumed so.
Now the important characters on there own (and one of them with their alternate outfit).

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Hi everyone! I'm totally new at this stuff. I mean really new. I only just discovered this site a few days ago. I'd never even heard of Oots. *hangs head in shame* I had however discoverd this style of artwork on ihaertprintandplay.com earlier this year and loved using the minis I downloaded for my D&D games. I was about to start a new campaign and needed some new minis and a few google searches later I discovered this site and the absolutely amazing artwork you all have been making and I fell in love! So after a few days of ravenously devouring this site I thought I might give making Oots style avatars a try, so I downloaded inkscape (which I've never used before) and with the help of the tutorial I found here on this site away I went. So here is my first ever Oots style avatar (and my first go at inkscape). What do you think?
Angel of Valor (based on the D&D 4e Monster Manual image)
Spoiler: Larger Image
And now I must get back to reading Oots. Apparently I have a lot of catching up to do.

Dang, Kaariane, that's good. I'm not sure that I believe that you're new to this.
I really like the dual outlines. I think I'll try to incorporate it into my own art.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Thank you! I wanted it to look like fire so I did the multi colored outlines to try and represent flames. I admit I have altered some of the minis I'd downloaded by changing some colors in photoshop, and copying and pasting different weapons and then painfully pixel by pixel trying to clean it up a bit in paint, and let me just say what a nightmare that was, and the results were none too pretty, though mostly you couldn't tell by the time I printed them out as 1" square tokens. But this was my first time actually making my own. So I'm absolutely adoring Inkscape! Vectors! Layers! OMG! It's a whole new wonderful world! *happydance* My family may not see much of me for the next few weeks

Hey, look, more art upgraded old characters.
If anyone evens remembers them, you may note that some of them have changed race in addition to design.

Here's hoping that after a few years practice I might be able to make stuff that is even remotely that awesome. In the mean time, I give you my second creation.

Also since people seemed to like my Angel of Valor I decided to make it my avatar.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Kaariane, keep doin' whatcha doin'.
So, I've been off of this thread for a while, and I think that in that time I've begun to drift away from OotS style. My newer avatars/portraits feature actual hands, thicker (sometimes colored) limbs, and (gasp) necks!
These are some Terrestrial Exalted I made for an upcoming game. Tell me what you think!

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Very nice.
I've noticed from the sheer range of art styles in this thread that the only thing seeming to qualifying all the styles as 'OOTS' are the eyes, with stick limbs as a distant second.
Edit: And black outlines, given how 'OOTS'-ifying non-humanoids seems to involve just outlining them.Last edited by Oneris; 2014-06-03 at 08:05 PM.

Ladies and gents
Since avatar theme week has resurected, people seems to be avataring again, nex blood is coming in and it's going to be summer, so there'll be free time and such, I felt it was as good a moment as ever to bring Draw Your Friends from it's ashes as well.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
There is a theme week? Who/what/where?
And speaking of colored outlines instead of black...
I just made this for my son's D&D character. He gave me a picture for the tattoos and demanded that he have arms because "the tattoos have to extend down his arm!" Not that he'll be able to see them once it's printed on a 1" token, but I did it anyway. He's cute and he batted his eyelashes at me, what could I do? I'm not sure if I like the way I did the fire. It doesn't look as cool as my angel, but I'm not sure I can be bothered messing with it anymore.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
The Theme Week is here. Voting begins Friday.
Also, that is such a cute story, and the elementalist guy looks really nice.
ps: OOTS characters generally have the tall eye on the side that is closest to the viewer, and the more rounded eye on the farther side. A notable exception to this rule are the male members of the Greenhilt family, including Roy and his dad.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I have to say, Kaariane, you've made some really awesome avis. Especially for just starting out. I expect you have some other art experience, yes? If not, you're an incredibly fast learner!
And on an unrelated note, I have my own avi to show off today. I haven't been making many lately, but I have one.
It's my kitsune character Kitty! This time with a dress concealing her tails. Well, almost.

Gonna try my hand at this!
