Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I haven't been artistic lately so here's a dwarf I made over the course of 12 hours of laziness today. First thing I've made since Thanksgiving or so.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Those are all incredible. I like how Null is the only one frowning. Emote is just awesome.
One thing that struck me as odd and interesting was that Null was the only one with eyebrows. I assume it is to add to his expression.
Even the originals are better than anyhing I can do.
The family tree type setup is also cool.Avatar made by Bradakhan| Other avatars.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Flaming Eagle made an avatar for me, and I'm thinking of improving it by myself (instead of pestering him). You can find the larger version of the image in my sig.
I got the following feedback:
The coat is indeed supposed to be dragging on the floor, but I don't know how to fix the others. Any help here please?

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Emote's (and Ivy's, not that that's relvant) hair took like half an hour to do on it's own because I decided I didn't want her to have gradient hair anymore.
I, like the giant, only use eyebrows to show emotions. Null is supposed to look bored.
...
The original original one? The one under the spoiler in the spoiler. The one that is so old that it's on photobucket instead of Imgur? I see that one, and I want to hit my head on the wall.
Tis intentional.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
What program are you using?
The stiff arms can be fixed by rounding them a little. The sleeve on the left is basically a rectangle. A small curve could help here. Try to make it droop down a little along with the arm. While you're on that, extend said arm a little so it gains a proportionate length to the other arm. The stiff position, or posture of the character can be fixed by adding a small arch or curve to her back. Oots females don't have 'square' bodies like their male counterparts. All in all though, a great effort. I would have definitely given you at least a 7, especially since it's a first timer.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Is it wrong for me to find those skeletons cute? I think it's their little jackets that do it, bless them.
A month or so ago I tried to get an avatar made but it never materialised, and I had a bit of spare time yesterday so I decided to give it a go myself. I think I've probably gone the most awkward and long-winded way around doing things with Inkscape, but I at least ended up with something kind of okay looking, if a bit ragged around the edges:
Bigger version:

Any critique would be awesome because I want to make it better. I think the face, boots and maybe the pose are all a bit iffy. I know the head is far too small for OotS, but it looked really weird when I tried to make it any bigger.
EDIT: I copied a reference picture really, really closely, as I wasn't confident on what I was doing, though it best to include that for reference:

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I agree with what Tiffanie Lirle said about their suggestions. Additionally, I believe it could be improved by making the coat itself curve more down to the ground. It seems rather stiff, as the lines are more or straight down diagonally. I would have the lines more curved in general, and curve out much more at the bottom, if that make sense
Since I'm overall poor at describing things, here's a picture to show it.
Spoiler
Additionally, If it's supposed to be a trenchcoat type thing, it would normally have a back to it, which would be drawn. As it stands right now it seems to be like two long flaps hanging down from the front (almost like a reverse tailcoat.) I don't know if that's intentional, though.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Peebs, you are really really good at this. I couldn't have done better.
That being said, the mouth is too thick and up and to the right, and the shoes could use a little rounding.
But awesome job.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I pretty much just copied over the reference picture and simplified it.
I can see what you mean on both points, and the eyes look shonky to me too. At least I know I'm on the right track!
*toddles off back to Inkscape*
EDIT: Fiddled around with the hair a bit, shifted the mouth to make it a little more central, and fussed around the boots for a while without actually making much impact.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I wanted the legs to be visible, which due to the color of the coat, won't be visible if the back was filled in. Even more so at avatar size.
And I really should get an image editor more suited for OotS style art. I'm using pixlr.com/editor, which is probably best for other kinds of image editing. I recommend people check it out anyway.Last edited by goto124; 2015-02-13 at 10:10 AM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I know very little right now, but would a side-on or isometric viewpoint work better for the avatar? Based on your description of how you requested the robe, it's the kind of garment that's going to be pretty hard to do face-on. In profile or just turned a little, it would be easier to show the robe dragging on the floor, to put in a back, maybe draw the character in the process of stepping forward so that one leg breaks through the gap and pushes one side of the robe aside?
Another option could be to have the robe fully open, a kind of wraparound cloak more than a robe? Then it could be all billowy and impressive looking, and floaty enough to not black out the legs too much.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
It's overall a very good job! The only thing that I can think of is changing her right leg a little bit to make her calf more directly under her thigh, but that's a pretty minor issue. I don't think the head size is that much of an issue, especially since you are already deviating a little from classic OotS style a little bit. I think the hair change is a good improvement. I really like the detailing on her costume.
Thanks for the comments on the skeletons too, by the way!
